Do you think making straps to hold it would work? like back pack straps but maybe not as bulky? I'm thinking of starting a tengu cosplay and I don't want to get super bulky around the shoulders ^^;
@HomeOfRandomDotCom Nope, I don't think it would break. Might lose a couple feathers if they ran into you really hard, but the harness and frame shouldn't break that easily.
How exactly did you sew the shirt to make them fit under there? I'm doing a my little pony human version cosplay of rainbow dash and I have no idea how to go about putting the shirt on over the wing harness but still have the wings on top of the shirt XD
umm im planning on doing a genesis wing (one wing) thing, and im not sure how the harness will work if im gonna have the wing come out a hole in the coat the width of the wing, @_@ please help
@tadpole3135 It reaaally depends on the wings and the costume. Every time I make wings, I make the harness differently based on the costume they go with. Sorry I can't be more specific than that...
Ah! I was hoping this harness might not involve any over-the-shoulder parts... Oh well. I'm working on a costume w/ a strapless dress that is supposed to have spines jutting out the back, and I need a harness for them. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them... If not, I'm sure I'll come up with something ^_^"
Great idea by the way- if it wasn't a tight, not to mention shoulderless garment covering my torso I'd likely use something like your handlebars idea :D
I recently heard about magnets. That might be a good option for a strapless garment. Search ebay for rare earth magnets. They can come in some incredible strengths. One the size of your pinky nail can support 7 pounds of weight. But if you go that route, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful. These magnets are serious business. They can, without exaggeration, break your finger. But they are super super cool.
I've followed your tutorial to make my Genesis wing from FF:VII Crisis Core. I tried your method on the harness shown but the moment I placed it on, I got smacked in the jaw by the non wing side. Any way to show how to set up a One-wing harness? He's to be shown off in a cosplay contest the first weekend of December, so if you can help, I'd GREATLY appreciate it!
Otherwise, your tutorial was the best to follow! :3
I'm so glad the tutorial worked for you! Honestly, I was nervous that people might have trouble with my direction.
I think for a one-winged harness, you just need to weigh down the other side with something. Anything will work. It shouldn't need more than 2 or 3 pounds to balance it. However, I am not at home and can't get to my harness. So I can't show you. I'm sorry!
wow u look like a mom that did something over egatering and came out to find it was a joke and u look liek u just found out and ur looking at ur husben liek wtf!!!!!!
They don't fold completely back down. The far edges of both are constructed to stay rigid. You could have them loose so they fold down more than mine, but you'd need some extra wiring.
If the far edges, to the far left and far right of the picture, were loose and hanging instead of rigid, you'd need extra fishing wiring set up on the frame that you could pull to bring those pieces up.
I'm not too familiar with them, but I don't see why not. The key is that you have one object that you can screw into the frame and that somehow sits securly on your shoulders. For me, a bike rack fit my shoulders nearly perfectly (though if you're like 6 ft tall or have really big shoulders, I could see it being a problem). It's all about connecting the wood to something that can connect to you... if that makes sense.
Cool, yeah an alice pack fraem(half size and full size) have screw holes all the way up and down the side so it should work. But youre way is much easier and cheaper(alice packs cost 30 bucks i used one for my ghostbuster back pack)

So I'm curious what you did with the clothing over the harness. So how/what did you do? xD
tathea40814 1 year ago
@tathea40814 I cut slits in the back of the shirt so the harness could go under the shirt and the wings could be outside of the shirt.

Do you have any guides on how to make harnesses for small wings with no feathers?
3redroses3 1 year ago
@3redroses3 If it's a very small pair of wings you can use a backpack or even a coat hanger.
tusense 1 year ago
I'd like to acutally see the wings in folding motion. How does it bend and how do you bend it?

Neonprettykitty 2 years ago
I know that you did a lot of work on this, but the tutorial really didn't help me and your wings look a ittle boxy instead of actual wings.
CharcharodonMEG 2 years ago 14
You can use an old schoolbag.
It's really easy, because you take a wooden plate and put the wings between the plate and the schoolbag.
Than you can screw it really tight so the wings won't wobble around.
The only problem you might have is putting the top over the wings.
But if you put a zipper on each side this won't be a problem.
:D

I actually used that method with my second pair of wings and you're right - it was really sturdy!

If you're not using a bike rack, uh..... what do you use to attatch them to yourself or attatch the wings to each other?
CharcharodonMEG 2 years ago
I used a backpack the second time I made wings. Tutorial coming eventually

....You could always put some white foam padding on the handles before adding the feathers, I suppose...
I'm currently in the process of making wings that dont have the extra bump thinger at the joint...
and thanks Tusense for helping me out with these videos ^^
I wouldn't have known where to start if I didn't find these :P

yes, but not in bulk. You can only buy a handful at a time from craft stores, which is pointless

You may have said this in one of your videos, but I don't remember...Where did you order them/buy them from?
I need ALOT...I'm making those huge wings from DN Angel :P

Woah $30. In that case, I definitely recommend the bike rack if you find one that fits comfortably on your shoulders.
