@buxtonbyron01 I got to say brother,i,m not, raining on any-ones parade, but i got to agree with you.Unloading everything is the hard part compared to that.
@thomasuras the prefabricated product used in the video can be custom made to any size with in a 1/8 of an inch. I think it gives 3/4 plywood a run for its money. But that's my opinion.
@Archking57 it isent practical The cost , timing in the field last min changes. its fin for ur custom prodction homes where they dont want to pay anyone thing for labor
@thomasuras I have had the opposite effect. I sell my products into production homes all the time. I even have archways in manufactured housing. Not to mention, wall panel plants.
*Production builders like it because it saves them on material cost and speeds up the production time.

good work but if the dome is going to be paint grade why not just install a prefab plaster gypsum dome so you skip the drywall and taper too! while your at it you can order the plaster ring trim for the bottom lip.
@houmanbenz thanks for the comment. 2 main reasons to use a framing kit. 1. The dome can be made to any size with in an 1/8". This means you can frame it to fit your exact measurement and adjust the overall height of the dome to give your dome a higher rise or lower one depending on your specific need. The majority of domes installed have to fit under your roof rafters and being able to customize it, is a plus. 2. The dome kit is a fraction of the cost. Ex: 6' dome $329.95
@deleetmeeh i think your missing the point of the video. The dome kit eliminates the prep work needed to frame it vs framing it from scratch and the installation speed has no bearing on the quality of the dome. The dome kit can only be installed one way and the quality is perfect everytime.
@Archking57 I DISAGREE ! It's possible to mess up any job through hasty rush rush slap dash work wheather installing a kit or working from scratch. My gf had a front door lock installed by a so-called professional workman before I knew her. He put the lock on upside down. A lockset is a KIT ! There are way too many tradesmen who work only with their hands and don't use their brains. Trying to set a speed record only agravates the situation.
@colt4667 I agree, it is possible to mess up, the likely hood is slim if you know what you are doing. The fact is this was not the framers first time installing a dome kit. This particular builder uses this dome kit in the majority of his homes and the framer is used to working with the product. He was not setting a speed record that is his normal amount of time he takes putting up the dome. I was just fortunate to catch it on tape.
8m20s plus the time to shop-build, deliver the ribs and set up the equipment. Jussssst a bit longer than 8m20s. :-) Cool vid though. It's tiring to pull that off. Wood screws and impact drill would be easier. You can see him slamming in many nailheads with a framing hammer. That's an insufficient preset nail depth setting and/or stock alignment issue. Coolest part of domes is the taper artist required to finish. That's extremely involved work.
@CommentsSurvey master skill of drywall/plaster to pull off textured finishes, properly mud and sand irregular angles like vaulted ceilings, finish impeccable showcase surfaces like domes, rescue crappy drywall install work. There are tapers and then there are artists.
@RenoDoctor : thanks. I didn't know so much went into it! Love these arches and domed ceilings and admire the Medieval work done 500 years ago. I think those same magnificent artisans are still alive and well and working today such as you describe.
Good job installing it quick. I have done several domes but only by building dome from scratch, which is also very easy to do from wood if you have been taught by someone with experience. If you dont have the experience , or are not a carpenter you would definitly want the prefab dome. But this guy had marks on everything before he started I imagine because I havent met anyone who has a measureing tape built into there eyes.
@josh1229100 You can get "Prefab" domes cheap all over the USA. They are called "Satellite dishes". I put a 10' dome in my house. Used a metal mesh type dish. After I had framed the room I set the dome on the framing. Took about 1 minute to install. Wasnt sure it would pass rough framing inspection but inspector said all was good.
Great demo on how to work quickly, very neat prefab kit. The way to go.
As for all the whining bitches saying the video shoulda been called this or that... who cares? These guys rock, and you can't stand it. Well, get up and do something about your lack of ability to do the same; Get off your ass, and learn.
@lostchordevine : Now you responded more in kind the way I might have! Thanks for posting. Great job here and the kit makes real sense for people like me. Can't wait to try it myself!
Wood Framing? what he did was similar to bringing home a box from Ikea and assembling the parts to make a piece of furniture. I framed metal studs for years and this could be done with metal right on the job site from scratch. I doubt it could be done with wood on site. I build many things out of Metal studs that wouldn't even be possible out of wood. Problem is that there is a ton of people that are wood framing experts and not a lot of people have a clue how to use metal.
@mjduryea There are several ways to frame dome ceiling. Here in Texas we traditionally see framers on site cut plywood / OSB to create the dome ceiling. It is not until we get into commercial framing where we see domes being framed out of Metal. I am simply offering an alternative. I am not trying to take the "Fun" out of framing a dome from scratch. I am trying to offer a alternative that is more effective on saving time/money without sacrificing quality.
for example the 6' dome in the video on average takes a framer his first time about 20 minutes to install. The price on a dome that size is only $329.95. The material alone to frame from scratch is more then a prefabbed dome. Now factor in labor .... and so on. Not to mention you get a perfect dome evertime.
@Archking57 : You give such polite, patient, accurate and factual responses here. Much better than I ever could! I think your products are terrific and I can't wait to try them out on the next house we build. Thanks for posting!

you can do it with mesh and plaster... the easier way in my opinion is to use 1/4" flexible drywall and cut into pie pieces and simply press / screw them into place.
