had this mobo since april 2009 bought it from tiger, running a QX6700 with a T1 thermaltake all copper fan with 2 x4870s in crossfire gddr4 512s have it at 3.912ghz very stable , viper patriot ram just the pc6400 but i have that also over 1044mgz too , all in a applo NZXT case ,have it runnig off a corsair TX 750 WATT the one that has one 12volt rail with 60 amp.having got to marry it with raid 0 or raid 01 yet , but we will see.i had this etup with a q9550 and didnt get the oc that i have now.

Like what ? Rendering ? A renderfarm is cheaper !. Critical number crunching ? Real handy if you rig is on the brink of collapse due to overheating !

It has no use or added value.

The performance gain is laughable and easily, and often more cheaply, surpassed by clusters.

The ONLY application that are specifically for over-clocked systems are benchmarks and over-clock application used to read out the numbers before the CPU blows.

There is NO use for a Nitro cooled gaming rig what so ever.

Overclocking your hardware will get you a faster system for the same price. Better price/performance... Especially when hardware like this is BUILT for overclocking and high performance hardware.

The benefits of overclocking means you can render images and animation faster, faster 3D graphics..... Stop moaning and use your computer for whatever, and let people who enjoy overclocking and getting a bargain get on with it!

Also, in several observations I have noticed that, generally, the "overclocker" do not need or use the trivial increments of speed they gain by turning their system into a egg boiler windtunnel. And games do not really benefit from unstable systems.

It is a uneconomic senseless amateurish hobby .

Breaking perfectly good gear? considering the "gear" is designed for that sort of application, how is it breaking it. only amatuers who havnt a clue in what there doing will end up damaging components. and actually overclocking isn't dramatically shortening the life span, that will only happen if your dangerously over volting a component and is not within optimal temperatures. and dont give me a lecture about it because iv had a P4 overclocked at 4GHz for 4 years now.

As I said the only real measurable effect of clocking is purely between the ears.

and what says that overclocking is unstable? its only unstable if its pushed too far and the overclocker not testing it correctly, if at all, to see if is infact stable and within optimal temperatures. overclocking is probably the best way to get your money's worth out of a system instead of blowing away hundreds for an upgrade in the next couple of years, thats my main reason for an overclock.

Even IF your overclocked system seems stable and survives for that long, which indicates that the boost has been minimal ( and the subsequent performance gain neglectable) you'd loose the money you think you'd save by power consumption alone at least 2 fold. on top of that you should count the idiotic methods needed for cooling.

For what ? A trivial benchmark difference !

The only real effect,alas, is physiological.

I bought this motherboard for my new PC a week ago and i'm happy with it. Runs very cool. I get 30 Celsius all the time. I'm not an overclocker but I've managed to get 3.4 GHz with my Q9550 without voltage increase. After that i returned the clock speed to normal because I'm kind of guy who doesn't want to force components above their normal speeds :)

I purchased this board in late Oct... the hardware is impressive and will overclock like CRAZY... if only they'd release a functional bios. I can only get from a stock 2.5ghz Q9300 to 2.6ghz with the 1.5 bios (this is the current version, FSB/DRAM ratio is broken and causes boot crashing). On the 1.4 bios I could get to 3.1ghz, but the bios wouldn't apply any changes to the VCORE (or any other voltage)... as the bios was broken. (So I couldn't go beyond 1.18 volts)
