1.)Dr. Wendell O. Belfield, DVM, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, is leading the way in revolutionizing veterinary practises. He uses large doses sodium ascorbate therapy to treat distemper. The dose level was begun at one-half gram per pound of body weight(yes, that's correct) administered intravenously twice daily. With dosages this high, Dr. Belfield uses the sodium ascorbate form of Vitamin C as opposed to the ascorbic acid form.
2.) The intravenous preparations used were made from crystals to avoid sodium bisulphate, a preservative in the commercially available intravenous products, which can cause nerve problems when given at high dosages. He stressed that once this process was started NOT TO INTERRUPT IT FOR ANY REASON not even if the pet appeared to be feeling better or seemed fully recovered before the five days were up because he says "treatment broken off in the middle permits the virus to come back."

Did you notice if he sneezed or shook his head any? We had a sick coon too.. It looked confused too and sneezed rapidly and shook his head... Do you know if that is distemper too? Than
@laurajdahl i have one right now with thoes symptoms not so much sneezing but confused looking and wobbly walk almost always shakes its head when it gets up....what happened to your, i feel really bad for this guy but i dont know what to do for him
We found one that wondered into our yard in mid day that just sat down and starred at us for like 30 min and was not afraid of us. I'm pretty sure it had Distemper. We shot it three times with a .22 and it still just sat there so freaked out we got the 30-06 and shot it 2 more time before it laid down. It was crazy
SHIT! That was one crazy coon! I shot one one time in the eye with a .410 loaded with #6 shot. he jumped up in the air, and by the time he landed he was done.
i came here expecting to see a black man getting thrown out of a shop or something. :/
