@theredrecievers I completely agree with you, people forgot what good pop music is, not top 40 crap but instead stuff like this. Excellent song, very catchy.
@TheNickSalvatore only problem with this is that the Fruit Bats had been releasing albums several years before the Fleet Foxes so ...I would say The Fleet Foxes came from these guys. Just because you heard of the Fleet Foxes before the Fruit Bats does not mean the Fruits Bats came from the Fleet Foxes. They are playing a free show in my town in this month. My coworker (graphic designer) is working on the poster for the gig right NOW! He is sitting beside me and he is stumped for a graphic. haha
Are you kidding?! This album is phenominal..the lyrics are genuine and the sound is, well, lets just say this cd has been in my player for three straight weeks.
I had heard of Fruit Bats before but it was when I was in Ameoba Music in Hollywood that I heard this album playing over the store's system. I IMMEDIATELY ran to the counter to ask who it was and picked up a copy that day. Took it back to my great aunts house (where I was house sitting for two weeks) and what a musical experience to have....alone....just you and a great album. This is the type of record that should be in the Top Ten on the charts right now.
Not a bad comparison, actually. I was, earlier, thinking they seemed to fit in with a number of other Sub Pop artists: Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Shins, etc. Then I thought, maybe a little 'Beatles'...something about the seventies. There's a bit of a high-pitched man-voice thing going on here, and I approve! Bringing 'beauty' back to pop.
hmm I thought more like, Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I could hear some of Neil's falsetto voice. Also the whimsical guitar riffs, reminded me of some Tommy James et al, like some of the Crystal Blue Persuasion type. my two cents.
They have a classic sound for sure, I wouldn't compare them to anyone. Although, if you like them, most likely you own an album by the bands you listed! (Yes, I do own one or more albums of every band you listed.)
I sure like the Optigan they used on "Flamingo". What disc was it? I hope I have all the discs, but I might be missing a few...esp. the new cheezy synthesizer disc that costs something like ninety dollars.
Whoa, whoa, whoa....let's not go that far. I'll admit the last Shins album really let me down. It's fine, but we had to wait HOW LONG for it to come out?! And then they deliver an average/semi-good album? Aside from this Fruit Bats album (which is my first), I think "Spelled In Bones" is the next best. These Sub-Pop bands need to be ruling the charts, not Beyonce, Pink, Fall Out Boy, and all this other crap!
I'm not sure who you are replying to (MattHatter), in your last comment, but I find your response to the Shins (and their last album, or any album) very true, I have a hard time with them. As for the "crap" out there now, ya, it's awful. I agree, as a person who lives and thrives on music, you do have to dig to find the real thing..
Greatest opening line in a song ever...

The Ruminant Band was one of the greatest records for me in 2009. Grab a girl and dance naked through your disco. :D
