Uma das mais belas músicas de todos os tempos. Eu era moleque, mas nunca a esqueci. One of the best music of all times. I was a little boy but I never forgot it.
A versão em português é igualmente maravilhosa.
The portugueses version is likely wonderfull.
Os povos podem viver em paz, basta querer.
People can live in peace, music holds us in peace.
Brings back memories of my time in Eta Jima Japan and being the first Aussie DJ game to play the song in Australia. Kyu opened so many doors to the the West after WW11 and began much of the healing process required by us all especially those who served on both sides. What a wonderful face and artist. RIP a ground breaking Japanese Star.
I loved this song as a child, it was part of a life-long fascination with Japan which led to my living and working in Japan for 4 1/2 wonderful years. Some of my best memories of living in Japan are of singing this song (in Japanese!) at karaoke with friends and co-workers. So nice to see this video and remember Japan.
can't believe I was only 11 when this came out, I remember it like yesterday ... thanks to modern technology I can finally see him, so sad to hear that he has passed away at such a young age ... I love the whistling too ... my dad whistled like that, hearing this makes me miss him ... thanks for this treat!
My Mum gave me a collection of 16 vinyl singles from when she was a girl. I treasured them and I then became a DJ. My ex wife or ex lodger stole my entire collection whilst I was DJing abroad almost two decades ago. This was my favourite of the lot and I still remembered the words from a child (or my memory of them) after all these years. It is the first time I have heard it in decades and it brought a tear to my eye as a 42 year old man. Lovely song
Im 57 yrs old and i know the song from the 60s , its a wonderful tune and loved it then and it will live for ever in the music world. Im very happy to see the young people like it too .

Another song from my childhood and prefer this version to the English Version. He put his heart and soul into the song . He left his mark on this world with this song that I am sure will be listened till long after I am nothing but dust.
Do you need to understand the words to enjoy a song?
I remember hearing this song when I was a child. I loved the melody. Many years later I heard it again and later I heard an english version. A beautiful song then and now in both languages.
Beautiful song. Never understood a word in that song when I listed to it on radio AM, KOMA Okla. City, Ok back in 1963 but the tune will always linger in my mind. RIP Kyu Sakamoto.

I love this song and this is the original ... a band called 4PM did an english version which is quite lovely too. But this is by far the best (and I cant understand a word)! :)
I wish I had the whole translation, Imagine us Americans calling it Sukiyaki ouch. Some of the words are I walk looking up because of the teardrops in my eyes.
This was the first song presented to me by my Japanese girlfriend when I was transfered to Japan from Malaysia in 1984.......Love you all Japanese humble people whom had help me during my stay there.....thank you
sukiyaki was a huge hit in hawai'i, and still is sung every night somewhere in hawai'i. kyu sakamoto was awesome, a genuine pro, look at his smile and the feeling he sings with, and its a beautiful song. i was in the 7th grade when i first heard this song...later as a musician, whenever i had japanese visitors at my show, i would ask if they wanted to sing and if they did i whoud ask them to sing sukiyaki...and they would, much mahalos to kyu sakamoto and jj for this awesome video.
OMG, it was a pleasant memory of Ue o muite, aka Sukiyaki. I remember learning the lyrics of this song in Japanese language class in high school. I can still recognize the writing. Doomo arigatoo gozaimashita Sakamotosan.
It is during a short stay in Japan that My japanese teacher shown me this song. I immediatly recognise it as a great one! And since this time, I wake up and sleep with this song.

The Russians did NOT shoot their jetliner down! Sheesh. On August 12, 1985, Kyu Sakamoto died in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123 when it suffered mechanical failures 12 minutes into the flight and 32 minutes later crashed into two ridges of Mount Takamagahara in Ueno.
I love this song and the melody is enchanting. Kyu was an incredible talent and it was indeed a tragedy to lose him at, what some say, was the height of his career.

I believe he was on that ill fated jet liner the Russians shot down in the 80's. This song is so beautiful. The english translation is all wrong, though. This song still stirs emotions in just about everyone almost 50 years after it first played on American radios. Something about the words (if you understand Japanese at all) and that melody that just makes me forget everything bad in my life.
