Wow there must be a world full of people that know exactly how to build a cabin. JME could out build any of you people that thinks he doesn't know what he is doing. He is a freaking engineer after all. Lets see all of the perfect cabins you have built. I bet not cause you suck. JME could probably do every thing you people do a million time better no matter what. Check out his channel, you'll see.
Gosh, I could say so much about the mistakes made but the door brace is all backwards. Good news though, it should outlast the cabin, I'm guessing a year beyond the cabin, 3 years total. Great work though. As long as you poked Ellen and Kimberly, you should be happy.
What a bunch of dumb fucks, a plywood and tin roof on a log cabin, and have to hold off working till someone gets off the phone- classic that just sums it all up. Complete morons.
Should the door open out and not in ? I think if a big hungry bear pushed in it might just give way and cuddle up with you and give you some big bear lovin.
My cabin the door would open out but thats just me. Not much into bear lovin.
Hmm... you'd have to ask Ellen. "edjorg". So far she's just visiting there, but she might retire and hang out for longer periods of time. I dunno. :-P There is a little community of people who live out there, though.
Oh, I just thought of another one heh heh. "CHAINSAW BRAIN SURGEON" Well actually I meant that You're using that chainsaw like it's a scalpel, but now that I think of it, I think "Chainsaw Brain Surgery" as a competitive sport sounds pretty funny too.. Hah, I amuse even Myself. Take care Man.
I didn't use any chainsaw blades up. I did hit a nail once, and switched to the other chainsaw blade we had there. ....because I didn't have time to resharpen it. ...but its still fine.
hey nice work! those vertical posts need some diagonal bracing or additional framing and plywood sheathing to fill in between post and window/door openings. snow load and wind can exert serious pressures on structures like this. nice adventure!
Yes, when they bomb NYC. Seriously, I don't know. I just like to keep all my options open in life, ya know? Although it would need lots more insulation to make it weathertight for the -50F winters in McCarthy.
Yeah, I watched his film of building his cabin right before we went up. I don't think I could live alone for years like that though, but he seemed really happy. I opted for a stove rather than fireplace because he was comfortable at 40F whereas I like it warmer inside! He also was on a gravel lake shore which means no permafrost, so he had a gravel floor rather than going up on posts like me. His woodworking skills were amazing. Someday I want to build another cabin with only an axe.
If you're anything like me, it's the joy of creation. To look at a thing and say 'I made that. It was an idea that I formed myself in my own head, i built it with my own hands, and it's really good', that's one of the biggest joys in life. Being proud of something that you brought into existence, like your child.
yay no drips!

I would have thought it would have been a good idea to put down a thin foam insulation across the plywood before putting on the sheet metal
Macka007 1 year ago
Diagonal bracing on a wood door should run up from the door hinge. This arrangement is better at reducing door sag.
