  • @ brooss there have been black popes and such and great black saints

  • Thank you for the wonderful reminder of what the Church was. This was filmed while Vatican Council II was meeting and subversive elements were plotting the destruction of the Church. But perhaps we can save a remnant for future generations with the help of recorded documentaion such as this. And eventually with Christ's and the Virgin's help - it will rise again.

  • This was beautiful. My heart pounded the whole time. This was beautiful.

  • My obstacle to Roman Catholicism. More than half of the members of Roman Catholicism are not African and Asian, but no Black or Yellow pope. In fact, there have been no Abbot Primate (OSB), Master General (OFM/OP), or Superior General (SJ) that are Black or Yellow. Roman Catholicism seems to privilege whites from Europe, USA, and South America. What is the pope doing to address this?

  • @brooss Im black and I converted to the Catholic Church 3 years ago! Come home to the Catholic Church, the Church of Christ.

  • Wow, thanks for posting! I liked the part towards the end when the family members so reverently watch the miracle of their sons' and brothers' souls changing into those of priests.

  • God bless you for posting! Shows the endurance of the Order, even during this time of change for the Church. And as far as I know, they are still preaching the orthodoxy of the Faith! Long live the Friars Preachers!

  • great vid. i love the way how they're all so wrapped in thought for god and the saints , very inspiring

  • Incredible Video,

    thanks for posting!!

  • Pre-Vatican II liturgy. Nice.

  • lovely..

  • Lovely video - as an ordinand it makes me think a lot about my own vocation.

    Thanks for the posting.

  • Hello! Ain't that film a hoot? That was back when I was young, thin, and had hair!!!

Time marches on. I still remember Z- town fondly.

    Father Scordo

  • Is Bonniwell still with Us?

  • beatiful

  • Great video.

  • this video helped me a lot

    thx for posting

  • Great video!

  • Is that Fr. Joe Scordo in the opening scene?

  • It is indeed!

  • He was our pastor at St. Thomas Aquinas in Zanesville, Ohio in the early 80's. A wonderful person and a good priest! I have taken many trips to Somerset to visit the old priory and to visit the graves there of so many I have known theough the years. I certainly wish Fr. Scordo well-if you see him tell him I enjoyed the film! Susan Rosta (Pugh) at the time I knew him. Veritas!

  • The Order of mass was started right after Vacitcan 2. 64-65... however many priests used the old order for a while. Several Orders use St. Augustine rule rather than have there own. like say the franciscans. Nothing wrong with it... It a good rule...

  • @babyycat In 1965, Pope Paul VI came out with a Tridentine Missal with some english as an experiment for the Novus Ordo. Then in 1970 came the Novus Ordo.

  • Just to clarify, when did the "transition Missal" enter into the liturgy (ie that with the elimination of the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar, etc)? Was that during 1965?

  • In the 1965 edition of the Mass the prayers of the foot of the altar are eliminated during High Mass, if I'm not mistaken. It is hard to say exactly when that started and where since everything after the Council was generally innovated gradually all the way up to the New Mass.

  • Nice excerpts, very interesting to note the differences between the Dominican Rite and the Roman Rite. I'm guessing that with Vatican II this right was also "reformed."

  • Why did St. Dominic not write his own rule, as well as St. Norbert for the O Praems.?

  • No more religious orders like that these days (almost)...

Thanks to Vatican II and all it's ambiguities!

    St Dominic, pray for us!

Have some more sons and daughters like St Pius V, St Thomas Aquinas, St Luis de Montfort, St Albert the Great, St. Rose of Lima , St. Martin de Porres , St Catherine of Sienna etc... to bring sanity back to the Church!

  • Not just he elderly, but also the young. I was born in '93 and am a Trad.

  • Surprises me that the Litany of the Saints and final blessing of the new priests is in English in 1964 when the vernacular did not arrive until 65, 66,67.

  • Actually, the vernacular started to be used from at least 1963 onwards, and expanded with the promulgation of "Sacrosanctum Concilium" on 4 December of that year. Evelyn Waugh complains of vernacular in the liturgy in a 1963 entry in his diary, I believe.

  • Yea I know.. surprised me as well.

  • it is an very interesting video...it captures the peace and contemplative nature that I imagine purhaps religous life would give.

  • Religious life in Roman Catholic TRADITION still gives that peace and contemplation!

  • A poignant film; very commendable. It seems to me, that a subtle autumnal melancoly is diffused in it's words, sounds and scenes. Whatever became of Fr.Rover and all those noble and dedicated souls after the "reform" of the orders? - They are sorely missed!

  • How well this film shows how much we have lost in just 40 years. Thankyou. Beautiful.

  • Peter--I've been to the Dominican House of Studies, and judging by this film it actually hasn't changed very much. They're very holy.

  • Laudetur Iesus Xus!

  • Nice. I actually remember the music and words of Salve Regina from my brief visit with Dominicans in England some five years ago.

  • Spectacular!

  • Fantastic!

  • Beautiful
