We just had the regular UV filter on .. Which protects the lens from most things..

Sorry I missed your comment... We used smoke bombs and just hand held them.. You can buy them online for 2.50 each or a box 20 for around 25.00.. Just type in smoke bomb in google..

in Ebay they are called fluorescent lights in the continous lighting section the camera area. They are cheap and pump out a lot of light.
