A mechanical engineer has nothign to do with beign a mechanic. ME study mechanics and stress and other shit, a mechanic knows about cars and engines and how they run, and nothign about desinging metals and stresses and stuff.

I've been workign with engines since I was 7, self taught trough time, worked on 6 turbo cars by now, made 3 custom turbo installations. So i do know. Being an engineer has nothign to do with it, unless you desing engines.

I do agree with you there. Experience is better than any drawing and diagrams in books. I think apprenticeships are a great thing, BUT the acedemic side is VERY important, and while you could maybe tinker with cars, you just arnt a mechanic. Or, you'd be a cowboy.

But, what i see so much of on youtube is people who THINK they are mechanics and they just havnt got a clue... and it gets on my wick to be honest

I dont claim to be an expert, but I'm no duck-tape mechanic either. I'm one of the few people that actually solder and shrink wrap stuff instead of other people that use those wire screw nuts for houses. So far i havent fixed or costumized somethign and have it blow up or not work. cheers!

The amount of dodgy work i've had to put right - one garage i know replaced head gaskit but didnt check the head for skimming... it needed skimming, geeza had to pay for the work twise! thats what i meant by untrained mechanics.

not hard to do. if you have an old car with no cat and a carb all you have to do is put 1/2 quart of auto tranny fluid in the gas tank. during the backpressure it should shoot flames out. my dad did it in his Nova. it had a suped up 350 4 barrel holley carb and 3 1/2in sidepipes

well that could be anti-lag.. but u would need a turbo for that lol if its unburnt fuel then its straight pipe or atleast no cat(obviously because the year) and i know of flame kits that retard the timing like antilag but on a NA car and the excess fuel burns out the back.. and wow! look at the tip! haha start fires in feilds or um... wheres the gas tank on those? hahaha

Just to clear things up ot hasn't got any anti lag or nitrous on it, it's a 1293cc turbo, i have got an ignition kill switch all you do is hold your foot flat to the floor and control the revs with the kill switch.
