I swear to god the sax in the background reminds me EXACTLY of Sim City 4. You're just looking over your whole city at dusk or dawn and watching the world live, and then this song would kick in.
@Lorentz5 haha ty for the reminder, gonna practice some flo to this, its great cuz its got a sick beat, but its a little off step at times, sounds good if u break it down on time with the off steps.
I am a man of many genres, including metal, electronica, folk, alt rock (and all sub-genres of the aforementioned.) The list could go on, but that's not the point. If I am to ever make a true statement about music in my life, it is that no artist or group can make me experience the vivid variety of emotions that Boards of Canada evokes within me. They draw from the most organic palette of feelings, and never fail to make me feel so very human. Truly unparalleled music.
I have to thank Andrew Weatherall and his excellent Slow Your Circulation mixes that used to be on the Warp website circa 1998-2002 for inspiring me to spin this track in downtempo sets.Love that psychadelic mystic magic over the boom bap beat! God dammit, this track and the whole Music Has The Right to Children always had a spell on me. Brilliant album and a brilliant group!
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
this music is so much better when ur not stoned. then u can fully experience it. besides, it can already give u a high feeling, u just gotta have the right mindset. its magical enough already. let ur thoughts be free and do what they do, dont rely on a drug to make u feel a certain way. just saying.
Anyone else hear the title of the song in the repeated motif? The sort of bubbling up part sounds to me like "rue the whirl, rue the whirl" etc... Could be intentional, or it could just be me hearing things :)
Either way, I friggin love this song. And the video's pretty damn cool too.
@artvandelay13 i did after you pointed it out, i really like how this type of music, minimal, really general stuff, seems to be a collection of half formed and finished thoughts, so every day you'll fill in the blank with something of your own, knowingly or not
should have gone to the Pentland Hills in Scotland, off the nine mile burn, supposedly thats where they`re studios located, wish someone would prove it-great video altogether!
@barefootgeneration hey i was at nine mile burn last month, there was thousands of birds there. Was thinking of going on a an adventure to fined it. Im from mid calder not to far from the pentlands. I know that Hexagon sun do art projects up there and BoC are involved with that.
all of you, (by that i mean maztakeef and vicavox) please stop arguing as you are polluting youtube with these dumb feuds. we all know that whatever maztakeef "rhymed" was unnecessary as this video was polluted with emissions of argumental hot air after that. lets forget about it and walk away and enjoy BoC, and never bring this back up because that is the beating of a dead horse.
Oh you are so wrong.. obviously your not looking hard enough. Try looking deeper just like you did when you found out about Boards Of Canada and you'll see how wrong it was of you to say such thing. If your just not into rapping than I respect that but to say that there's no meaning behind it is an insult. if you like this hip-hop track (cus it is) try Fat Jon, Nujabes, Uyama Hiroto, Nomak and of course DJ Krush.
new hip-hop does not suck. It's not these great ages of Black sheep, the jungle brothers, the roots... but it's still being great, there are very good rappers, specially in America (the continent), in Europe it's not as good as there but France.
cuz the systems too big n were jus too damn small

aint no awkward silence when the musics on,

It shows you don't know "who the fuck" he is. What you're typing up isn't poetry. Not only are the lyrics hollow and meaningless but you have no structure to your "flow". ...you look back on this part of your life and think "god, what was I doing".
I mean it's just tragically bad, Shakespearean-tragedy bad. I mean if you're putting what you wrote to the beat it doesn't even work. I just despair with deluded cretins like yourself who then have to respond all ultra aggressively "who da fuck wordsworth". The point is you're not very good and your for your own sense of self worth you should stop whilst you're behind.

yea a lot of rap and hip-hop minus the vocals, a lot of metal too, minus the vocals, is really good stuff. its just that people's obnoxious voices are worthless preachy opinions ruin the music part.
I imagine BoC don't dislike rap at all, I don't either. Rap and Hip Hop instrumentals are closer to many styles of experimental electronic music than, say, metal and stuff like that is. Autechre started working being heavily influenced by hiphop, too. There's good rap shit out there. But if course there's also a lot of bad shit. Just don't let that spoil the whole genre for you I'd say :)
I own Craig Macks '94 cd, and Queen Latifahs "Black Reign" and some other bits and pieces actually. I was thinking in terms of todays stuff. The hi hats are still too crisp and immediate for the nostalgic analoque sound for my tastes. I just wish they weren't there : )
The analog sound is good for people who were children in the 70's and 80's. However, as amazing music it is. It will be lost of newer generations who were raised in a different era.
I am sure that eventually someone will stumble upon BOC stuff like this, and it brings them the same nostaligic feeling that it brings to people who like the analog stuff.
It's a very esoteric joke on my part involving a chronically depressed person who had the most awesome sense of humor outside of Stanley Kubrick, Vladimir Nabokov and Monty Python.
That said, listening to BoC does make me feel very nostalgic and melancholy. The juxtaposition of the rainbow against this song seems somehow appropriate. To pluck a phrase I would call it "achingly beautiful."
I guess that's a great compliment then! Your explaination confirmed my guess, but I wasn't sure whether or not your smiley was implying just that. Though I didn't witness the 60's, the "classic BoC-times", their music can get me into quite melancholy moods at times, there's a warm feeling of looking back but also a bit of a regret that the times and things it reminds me of have elapsed sort of. That is especially the case with the A Few Old Tunes tapes for me.
This is a year after the comment, buyt I'll reply because I'm reminded of something; we live life and most of life, nowadays, seems artificial. We live pretend lives voyeristically through movies and news. BoC, to me, reminds me that my own experiences are real. Whether they intend it or not, I feel as though, while I listen to BoC and remember my life, I have lived a life. I have helped / harmed people. I have more experiences ahead of me. I might live better tomorrow. Maybe. I'll do my best.
Ich seh mir deine Einstellungen sehr gerne an. Wunderschoene Landschaft und die Musik passt gut dazu. Vermittelt die ruhigen Momente, die du an den Orten erlebt hast, wunderbar.
