Hitachi, Samsung, and others, if you're listening, this is total EFFING BULLSHIT that you did not put these components in IC sockets so they could simply be pulled up and removed and easily replaced, if you KNEW they were going to fail. I ordered some STKs today, and when I do mine, I'm not going to solder mine directly into the board, but solder some IC sockets so that I can just plug mine in from the top without having to remove the whole god damn board.
Did you also show how to touch up the alignment? Just changing the chip usually isn't enough. You need the service data as well as the original remote to properly do the final adjustment.
The wick isn't working because you're filming it ;)
I just repaired one of these for my friend. Forget about using wick, man! Just get your mini dykes and cut the thing off, then you can use tweezers and remove one pin at a time. It will save ya from burning the board, and it doesn't take any longer (maybe less time)
i have a sony 48" projection tv in my room i just got and the picture looks good like the blue and the green are inline but the red is off some.. on the left of the screen theres a red shaddow below everything and on the right of the screen the red curves down like to the corner of the screen, i tried adjusting the lences and everyone says to get new convergences but do you think that is the problem? only the red is messed up is there an easier fix for my problem?

Why Don't you try a desoldering Iron . I find that it works better than solder wick ,plus its faster than what your doing .

The tip isn't even shiny anymore, spend the few bucks and get a new iron and look after the tip better, it will be worth it.
