i agree it is not delaying game if you dont choose to not to go in defenceive zone to get the puck. st louis was delaying just like pronger then. Move the puck up and then dump and chase thats how you beat the trap

Any team should be able to play any style they want. Even if it slows the game down. I think it's ridiculous that people are actually considering banning a style of play. THAT's what would really hurt the game.

The 1st time Phil. did this the ref blew the play dead resulting in a faceoff in their zone. If TB wins the faceoff and it results in a goal, I bet Phil would stop employing this tactic. No way should the NHL banish zone defenses. Every team uses them and you have to beat them if you want to win the game.

If there is a new rule to be made to combat this, it should be a time for the defending team to move the puck out of their defensive zone. Don't cross the blue line within 10 seconds or so and you have a faceoff in the defensive zone. While not a complete fix, it does move the puck further up the ice, and into the neutral zone.

@tyger674 are you kidding? if you ever played hockey its not always streamline when you break out of your zone. Having a time limit on the team in possession of the puck is ridiculous. Most times when teams dump the puck in, the opposing team's defenceman will be behind the net for up to 7 or 8 seconds just waiting for lines to change,then you still have to move the puck out and keep away from the other team's fore check. Plus you add the fact hockey uses physical play, its not B-ball its hockey

Dump and Chase + speed through the neutral zone beats the 1-3-1. This isn't killing hockey at all. In fact, it got us all talking about hockey. I don't blame Philly or TB. The NHL allows crap like this to happen because it refused to change rules in order to open the game up.

I'm sure NBC is thrilled it just spend $2B on a game that features teams staring at each other.

@Hank1974 you're an idiot, the equipment and rules are constantly changing to increase scoring. It's not basketball, Special teams are what make and break a game of hockey. If your facing Chara's slapshot would you want to wear any smaller equipment. You should play hockey before you make comments on something very uncommon. TB has 2 of their best d out at the moment and philly is producing record scoring. That alone is what caused the mockery last night. I'm a philly fan but it worked for TB.

@namnorius In Canada we invented the game...so we know a bit more of the history and the intentions of the game than in Finland i believe :) I'll tell you this :There is no rule against this because if you understand the spirit of the game then you'd get that when defending you do not have to compromise yourself ...when you are in possesion of the puck you have the responsability of engaging the next play.That was the intention of the founding fathers.Don't like it...invent yourself a new sport.
