  • LOL

  • IMMA WIZARD

  • So that means dvd's should say sequence selection, anyone else wonder why they don't do that?

  • trueee

  • Only one question: When you change the angle, i.e. changing the speaking person, how do you make the audio still running when one of the actors is speaking but the camera is shooting the other actor? Thanks in advance

  • @TheNukesLab when i do it, i film the first actor saying the line, then i film the second actor and the first actor says the line again behind the camera. then when i edt. it i can choose which point i want to cut to the other actor.

  • @TheNukesLab Shoot the entire scene from both angles, then chop it all up in your video editor. You can then have audio from angle 1 when you show angle 2.

  • @TheNukesLab Im having the same problem!

  • I am wanting to know what is the best software for editing? and what is the best software for visual effects?

  • @MrJedijunkie Adobe After Effects do a lot of professonal effects !

  • @MrJedijunkie some people use Sony Vegas for both, I prefer using Adobe Premiere Pro for editing and Adobe After Effects for visual effects

  • what movie is the bank robbery?

  • what program?

  • how old is that girl cuz she is a good actress

  • She is a great actress.

  • She looks a bit like Maddi Jane. Giggidy giggidy giggidy oh yea!!!

  • I just wanna say thank you! You guys have been extremely helpful, and even inspirational for me. Again thank you very much!

  • How old is that chick. Not a pedo, I'm 15

  • @TZP69 oh its okay guys, hes 15.

  • @mywillfull actually one camera.

  • I was subscribed to Film Riot when this episode came out but never saw it! I just found it in a related videos list! :O

  • Wow guys. I was actually looking for something like this earlier today, and I accidentally found this while looking something up for homework. I do have a question, though: If I have a static visual effect and multiple angles of the shot that are supposed to include the same visual effect, how do I accomplish that?

  • I Love this "oh my god!" from revision 3 in the end of the videos!

  • Anyone got Apples?

  • emily's cute :3

  • Is he a wizard? nope chuck testa.

  • when the camera is faceing the character and we start the scene does the other character not in the shot does his line too?? PLEASE ANSWER PLEASE ANSWER!

  • @ThePlainRomance please phrase that a bit differently and I might be able to help you.

  • @hobocamptheater what i meant is: take josh and emily for example when the camera is on a close up with josh does emily have to say her lines too

  • @ThePlainRomance nope, it's called a J-cut or an L-cut. it's an audio trick, that you do in editing. you can see an example in their FCP X video and you can find tutorials all over the internet.

  • @hobocamptheater no what i meant was like when ryan sed one angle for one actor to talk like " all their dialogue" but at 0:55 emily talks when its on joshs angle

  • @ThePlainRomance ah, yes. they do speak their dialogue, whoops.

  • @hobocamptheater wait everyone does their dialogue??

  • @ThePlainRomance yes, it's to help build the scene and get a better reaction from the person on camera. That's at least how a lot of people (including myself) do it.

  • Haha, that young girl is awesome!

  • im knew to this channel so this question may have been previously answered. but what kind of camera are they using?

  • OK this question I have been wondering for a long time! When you are filming a shot of one actor(actor A) and then Actor B starts talking before it cuts to his face. For example the camera is faced toward Bob and then John(actor B) says "Hey" while the camera is still facing Bob then it cuts to John as he finishes his sentence by saying "what's up"? Can someone please answer this question! I know it has something to do with editing, but I don't know what I need to do.

  • Ok this is Epic I was looking for a video explainingm this all day and I log on to youtube a shazam and this video is just sitting there waiting for me to click it!

  • he spits and doesn't swallow

  • 1:42 Josh: Meeeeee ???? kkk so fun

  • Am I the only one who just watches these for entertainment?

  • @Lioness075 i watch for the entertainment too. i also like to learn from these vids. Its a entertaining way to learn these techniques.

  • i subscribed :)

  • how do you overlay the audio in the video so it all flows properly?

  • @Greatperhaps96 Most editors that are relatively high-end will have 2 separate elements to a shot: Audio 1 and Video 1, the next angle would be Audio 2, Video 2, so you can edit between for both audio/visual if you get my picture.

  • Does that mean the first character says all their lines then the other angle the person says all their lines but the other person doesnt respond

  • thank this helps alot

  • this technique is what makes the difference between pro and amateur. please let me know whenever you go explain more about triangle coverage.

    thanks

  • The rope is a classic!

  • I am putting together a web series in early 2012 and I found this VERY helpful. Thanks.

  • Wen u mean one angle the actor says all dialogue does that mean the characters do the whole scene in the one angle then switch angles and do it agen

  • @RockGamer123 Yes... or have three cameras that capture all of the footage from three different angles.

  • who is the girl ??

  • 2:10 ´´hmm kids´´ XD

  • can someone help me like i dont get how to overlap sound

  • @ThePlainRomance What editing software are you using?

  • @BlackLabFilms1 Im using 2 one i am using Imovie and adobe premiere cs5

  • @ThePlainRomance Don't know about imovie, but in premiere you just drag the audio clip so it's overlapping the previous clip.

  • @BlackLabFilms1 THNKS

  • I want a wand!

  • 0:00

  • when using this coverage, the secondary character should talk? (or onli the main character)

  • Did you record audio on a separate device here or did you record the audio on the camera? i'm curious because of editing. Thanks!

  • @hmmhorrorfilms

I am pretty sure that he used an external microphone attached to the camera

  • that face at 1:43. LMAO!!!

  • i have that same jucie

  • pause at 2:51 for epic face

  • She's such a great actress.

  • Haha, emily is the cutest!!

  • Logo.

  • what if i dont like apples?

  • Great tutorials guys! Do you ask the actors to remember and retain their head positions and where they're hands are etc... or does that not pose too much of a problem in the edit?

  • @GulliverMooreFilms Actors should already know what they're doing and where they're going from rehearsals. Can't have them standing still doing nothing or they start to worry about what they should be doing with their hands.

Got to give your actors something to do, even if it's holding a cup of coffee, blocking and staging's very important and it's usually covered in rehersals anyway,

  • @GulliverMooreFilms What happens a lot is you cheat the location of the actors to get a nicer shot. In general you have them go back to as close to the original location as possible but in many cases you slightly slide the furniture, props and people around to get the shot look just right.

[split in two to fit comment]

  • @rorkimaru In regards to making sure that they don't move too much the DOP, Director, actor and continuity guy if there is one all have input. I'd say it falls least on the actors shoulders as its often the case that rehearsals are done at a different location and the DOP and Director line up the shots and position the actors on set. Everyone on set is invested in getting a great shot so you find that if something is wrong you'll have a lot of people looking out for it.

  • I have very high expectations now. Cinnabuns are delicious.

  • i love this episode :)

  • What was the film you used as an example for the bank robbery scene? :)

  • @matthewcrissall It's 'The Town'

  • I have that exact want!

  • i think u guys should make a movie.

  • @juno7617 Sarcasm?

  • Did you guys record the audio direct to cameras or seperate ?

  • Your a wizard harry!

    Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

  • This video is heaven sent!!

  • Great stuff guys!

  • Only one thing i disliked about this episode, and thats how Josh reminded me that harry potter's over!!! D: </3 otherwise, fantastic like usual :P

  • Solid gold brilliance!

  • I miss the ''WOO! WOO! WOO!'' at the intro :/

  • Good stuff guys! You go Emily, nice acting.

  • I desperately needed this episode. I've been trying to understand this part of shooting. A lot of my music videos on my other channel has been needing the different shots.

  • That first scene/ skit was good. The little girl can act way better than a lot of child actors I've been seeing in movies.

  • 12 ppl suck at fillm making

  • @Patthevlogger ok stop.

  • @ilebarsa stop what

  • to funny --- Sent From filmriot's AppRats (Facebook App)!

  • What camera(s) do they use? I'm sure they've answered it before but I am a new viewer and I'm not sure

  • @Comikkaze mark II or 550d I've seen them use it.

  • i think it would have been funnier if the music kicked in the moment josh takes out the wund.

  • 11 People got hit by cars

  • Little Emily is really starting to come into her own isn't she? Definitely has established her character, and getting more believable. How old is she? Have you trained her, or is she just a natural? Future plans of acting? And what about Josh? Any acting plans, or does he prefer a producer role, or cinematographer instead? Great family you got

  • man wheres the video about how to like transition the audio?): like how one person starts talking at one angle and it flows into the next

  • amazing tutorial

  • Great information, Thanks guys!

  • hahaha she is fucking adorable.

  • YOU ARE A GENIUS SIR. I BOW DOWN TO YOUR EXCELENCE IN FILM. WELL DONE, WELL DONE INDEED.

  • Was so ready for the screeching tires sound effects as Ryan walks out of the room.

  • what edidting program did

    you use for the intro

  • Do they both play the scene out three times or do they both do the scene in the master shot once and then individually for each close-up, reading only their lines as the other person's quiet?

  • WHAT IS THIS!? MOAR FUN THAN A CINNA BUN!?!?! IMPOSSIBRU!!!!!!!

  • 10 people got hit by cars

  • Hi FILM RIOT

Can you show us how to make a convincing "living Painting/Photo" like in Harry Potter please, that would be cool.

    Thanks

  • I forgot the apples... :o

  • hahah o fck that was funny! XDDDDD

  • You can buy authentic replica wands from the people who make them for the movie, The Noble Collection. They sell these wands in universal also, but you can order them offline, or from skymall, I got my elderwand from the Noble Collection and it is amazing!

  • Sweet peter on a popsicle stick.. Thank you for explaining this! Just shot the last sequence of our short film this past weekend. I was an actor in it and the director when from shot to shot. Therefore, we had to reset lighting and much more important, it makes it hard on the actor to get into character after each freggin' line and reset.. Not to mention it took ALL night to shoot. So, yes. Listen and learn ppl or well.. directors!!!

  • @titsarenice690 right thats what i thought

  • Did anyone else trip when Ryan actually popped up as the advertisement

  • what movie is it that yall show with the bank robbery

  • what type of camera are they using?????

  • pause @ 5:44 and it looks like ryan came

  • lol who are the two random people watching josh and emily in the reflection of the tv screen at the beginning?

  • I'm confused about audio. For example how could you do a J or L cut from a master shot to an OTS? Surely you would have to record separate audio for the two shots as it would be difficult to perfect timing? I've been wondering this for a long time, this episode has been the most beneficial and i've learnt so much from this. Thanks.
