  • What a great song. You can definitely hear the Beatles nod in the guitar solo ("And I Love Her") and the "things we said today" quote.

  • How prophetic this tune was when years later, Cetera and Chicago parted ways. "We've come too far to let it end this way".

  • This is a great rendition here. Some years they were so right on. Pete is kinda week on the 77 version, but that could be just that particular concert. His 76 was great but I think this 79 might be the best.

  • Peter, I miss you!!!Damn, I miss this guy. The way he sings, the emotion, everything, there's no one like him. Miss you big time!!!!!!!!!!!But thank God for these treasures(these videos)!

  • This video and fantastic performance deserves more views!

  • Pine Knob still there in Clarkston, Michigan. But as of 2001, the name got changed to DTE Energy Music Theatre. Despite the new name, I still call it Pine Knob.

  • Peter Cetera locks this song up like no one else can. As the writer, he understands it, but his voice and emotion carry it away to heights unreachable by mortals!

  • @maxjwinters007

Have seen Cetera perform this live several times here in Chicagoland. Nobody can touch his pitch, range, accuracy as a vocalist. Amazing chops, a true singer/songwriter.....nobody around who is this good nowadays. Watch/listen to his "Wooo, Mama, just got to have your lovin'" at 3:53...man, he kills it! Nails it!

If this song doesn't affect you, you're probably half dead.

  • Search for Dialogue...that is their finest!

  • wow don't they release these concerts with Peter Cetera on DVD ?

  • Yea, if you like bands that take the sounds and lyrics of others to a new generatation, not acknowledging that the song was written prior to 1976 and recorded by the songwriter himself, long before 3 was a T. Bottom line....the original is best, the copycats are in their shadows.

  • your 3T is sucks

  • What the Hell is 3T???

  • I am from detroit and been to pine knob lots of times, why did I never see these guys? too late now.

  • so awesome, great performance

  • Cetera is a unique talent and no one can deliver these songs the way he can. Thanks for posting these classic performances.

  • Awsome !!! Perfect control !

  • Peter Cetera is a master, full of talent. Superb songwriter, singer, bassist, and stage presence. His songs continue to move me to tears, but always uplift my spirits. Cetera's heavenly voice is a godsend. Bless you Peter, may you continue to keep your fans breathless!

Proud Fan of Chicago 1969 thru 1984.

    The 'Cetera' Era.

  • DYNAMITE! Peter Cetera once again is solid as can be here. This is classic Cetera and Chicago! Dont forget yall this is the first big hit Cetera ever wrote for Chicago and the very first number 1 hit they ever had so he deserves more credit than for just his voice. He can write extremely well! This is just one of the best Chicago songs ever written.

  • perfect! thanx for that

  • Finding this video here is quite amazing. I am sitting in the front row at this show, right next to Cetera. Went to Pine Knob every year from 1974 through 1983...need to see them again before it's too late...thanks for posting this gem.

  • Wow!

  • @Woodpecker5 if you go to ioffer. com there is a guy selling some of their concerts about 20 of them

  • I totally agree with you monty513 This is what I call a Peter Cetera at his best. Too bad the new guy ( For the last 20 years or so ) cannot sing like that, Jeff is a good bass player, can't hardly sing his own Chicago hits without getting off key, but still Peter is best overall Singer and bass player....And still can put out the goods

  • Cetera is magnificent here! Vocal quality,

pitch, and intonation are impeccable! His vocals could not, were not, and have not been adequately replaced. These classic moments with Cetera are true gems!

  • Pull up the rest of this Pineknob show... The whole band was "on" during this show!

  • do you own anymore of this concert? thanks for the video this is good stuff chicago rocks I wonder who is playing bass.was Terry Kath in 76, pine knob is a great place for a concert, saw Rush there in 2004.

  • From what I've seen of that show, it must be Donny Dacus on bass. He also was a great addition to Chicago. Too bad it didn't last.

I loved his stuff, good voice good guitar...A good alternative ( Nobody could replace Terry Kath) and he did change the sound of the band a bit....

  • I have to say, that this 'live' performance of this song is even better than the studio/album version. It surpasses it. Peter Cetera's vocal range and tone here is simply unbelieveable, and impressive. He's singing with such soul and emotion, it's hard not to feel it and cry at the beauty.

Thanks again, for the BEST rendition of this song. EVER.

  • In some ways this version is more intimate and sincere without Jimmie Haskell's string orchestra, wonderfully arranged though it was on the record.

  • Who is playing bass?

  • Dacus.

  • Over twenty years later, and Cetera's high tenor vocals are still missed! It just hasn't been the same. Scheff is a fine bass player, but vocally he is

definately a notch below. He seems to struggle

with tone and intonation on many of the classic

Chicago tunes. Yes it would be great to see Cetera

come back to the band, but when he left in '85

I knew Chicago's vocal sound was forever changed.

  • Wish they'd put this concert on DVD. Such a wonderful performance. Peter Cetera sounds great in this. This is my favorite Chicago tune, and the one that got me into the band. Thanks.

  • Dont talk shite.............Class act he is....i travelled all the way from England to see him in March and he was so nice, we met him, he even mentioned us halfway through the gig....and he looked out for us big time at the after show party.......like i say .....a class act

  • I have to disagree with you. I saw the video of Peter snobbing...Again we don't know the whole story about it. anyone is aloud a bad day you never had any???? Again I still love Chicago. But Apart from doin' covers now ( Night and day..Christmas album

I own the last studio album....I didn't like any of the stuff on it....It would be nice to hear the Cetera stuff sang well....Robert Lamm does a better version on his own live, then Jason Scheff can, for 25 or 6 to 4.

  • The whole band performed wonderfully! And in this clip, Cetera proved to the world that he is one of the greatest singer / songwriters EVER!!!

  • WOW

  • Who was the guitar player at the time of this video? Was it Donnie Dacus or Chris Pinnick?

  • Who is playing guitar on this video? The one who is rockin' back & forth in the background, like Rainman on a ballad song? That would be Dacus.

  • More specifically, Dacus is playing bass on this, as Kath used to.

  • OMG he sounds great. This is what I'll refer people to when I say that Peter Cetera is the best singer in the world.

  • I think that's the best I've ever heard Peter Cetera sing this live.

  • Ditto. In fact it could be the best I've heard him sing any song live. He was definitely "in the zone" (as the athletes say) on that one. I hope to see more of this concert posted soon!

  • Ditto on Peter's performance! What a great voice! Gee, the whole group sounded great! meauxhorn
