Hi I am a mormon, a mormon who does not believe in the doctrine but a mormon who likes being a mormon. I have come to conclude that "I hope" that god exists and that there is some underlying meaning to this journey we call life. I also find it comical that we pretend to know what Gods greatest desire for us is....Oh well. I like mormon doctrine the best...becoming like a God would be cool...make universises stuff like that...in the end who knows...I dont
Saying God will only reveal himself after you've decided he exists isn't only intellectually dishonest, but it's also logically inconsistent. It's like saying "I will only believe Citizen Kane is an actual movie until I finished watching it". It's just stupid.
on the freedom to choose thing. Since when do you ever feel like you've had a freedom taken away when you learn about something? Take the video game you've been looking forward to. You're "free" to believe it's the best thing ever programmed, but if you actually PLAYED it you MIGHT find out that it isn't. It would therefore be better if you never played it at all because you could go on believing it was the best thing ever.
The Mormons are right, the best way to have an imaginary friend, is to give that imaginary friend a lot of powers of stealth and pretend the thing is real.
The belief test is the only test that stupid people can beat smart people at.
Matthew 11:25: ... Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children."
The upbringing provides the presupposition missionaries have, the "fruits of faith", the wall against reality, and this presupposition will be defended at big cost. This is why in religions there is so few mobility in beliefs... Indoctrination.
I is just like the $cientologists. They show you how wonderful it is and it is only LATER when you find out all the suspicious stuff, but by that time it is too late, you are in and you have alienated all your friends and all your new friends are in the religion.
Faith= what you have when there is no evidence or proof
Religion= when you share that faith with many herd members
Religious Faith= imaginary friends who love you and never show up to the party or even hear a peep from and while you wait for that imaginary friend, you waste time, money and effort fearing that imaginary friend until it shows up. But if the friend doesn't show up while you are alive, you hope to meet up with this friend after death. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. NOT
@ShwaNerd if the LDS MORmON church is true, then there RACIST DOCTRINES would be TRUE.
MORmON God Curses the rebellious with Black skin
"...wherefore,as they were WHITE and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a SKIN of BLACKNESS to come upon them (2 Nephi 5:21)."
MORmON GOD turns the Skin back WHITE because they REPENTED
"And their curse was taken from them, and their skin became WHITE like unto the Nephites" (3 Nephi 2:15).
So whoever it was says you will have proof of god once you decide god is real so the answer to global starvation must be that it will end when everyone eats right? I mean it isn't any more ridicous that you getting proof when you already decide somthing is real.
@GrimmShadowsII upon rereading I realize there may be some confusion I'm not saying thats the answer or that I think it is, I'm saying that the person who said the first thing might say the second thing due to it following a similar "logical" path.
I hate when they say god values freedom over everything else and this is good. So many problems. First, its not free if he creates a system where he rewards one choice and punishes another. That is coercion, not freedom. If one wants to say you are free to not give the robber your money when he threatens to kill you, I suppose you can, but I will call it immoral.
Also, it's immoral for him to value freedom over preventing harm. You wouldnt just allow your baby to choose to eat a battery.
So you will only see "proof" when your already bias enough to accept the "proof" but from a objective standpoint....ugh....why is it everything I listen to theist argument I keep hearing the lyric "Youre such an inspiration For the ways that I will Never, ever choose to be." from Perfect circle's Judith. I mean....they're arguments are the same as every other sect of christianity and probably almost all religions...its just absurd!
@jmm1233 It's mislead to assume Mormons are dumb. They have been groomed to believe the authority of the church similarly to the way we accept scientific findings. Of course they are wrong, but they live in very insulated communities. Sheltered may be more accurate.
@matcotech i was actually commenting on their angel moroni , don't blame me , joseph smith chose the name , oh by the way i don't accept scientific findings through faith or beilef , and neither should anyone
@jmm1233 There are some scientific findings we accept on "good faith." Some theories are so esoteric that we can only trust the validity of experts based on historical reliability. Mormons simply misplace their trust into authorities that have no valid explanations. Of course with due diligence we can affirm scientific claims, but religions like Mormonism don't value that type of inquiry into their religious claims.
