I'm not going to troll or anything. This is just my opinion. In my opinion Super Mario Bros. 2 Japan was better known as an expansion pack of the Original Super Mario Bros. But I know that Super Mario Bros. 2 USA is basically Doki Doki Panic with some slight changes. I would call that a true sequel since it's not the same engine of the Original Super Mario Bros. So don't get pissed off, it's just an opinion.
It´s no problem. Actually, both are officially considered true sequels, one is SMB2 and the other one is Lost Levels. That makes FOUR wonderful Mario games on the NES and SNES (All Stars) instead of three. And, quoting Robotnik here "you know what they say, the more the merrier".
I wouldn't really say it was disappointing that much, just a whole lot easier. Most of the boss fights were really easy, though the back-to-basics Bowser fights were cool.
As for what's easier: Pokey's could be killed by fireballs, bullet bills were really slow, etc. These aren't complaints, just observations. Now I just await NSMB Wii.
Well, we at least know that they are also weak againast Fire Flowers, which makes sense since you could also shoot them down with those Red Watermelons from that game, Yoshi's Story (if they were in there, that is), and Yoshi's Island DS.
Nintendo should remake this game with NSMB graphics and World-E and all it's levels included, plus all new bonus content. I know I'm dreaming but still.
Oh yes it was! It was very good, but didn't come close to any previous Mario platformer. It was better then SMB2, but that's not even a real Mario game anyway.
The new power-ups sucked, and the only truly new one was the blue koopa shell. The mega and mini mushrooms were introduced long before in Mario Party 4. And since you couldn't fly in NSMB there were a lot less secrets and lot less to explore. It was like a step backward in a way, although the graphics were definitely a step forward.
As for sheer gameplay, it was a good game. The only reason Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World is clearly better is because we all have our nostalgia glasses on. Otherwise, it wouldn't be such an offshoot.
Sure the Mega and Mini Mushrooms were introduced in Mario Party 4... but NSMB was the first platform game they appeared in.
I don't see the big deal on flying, personally. I mean they had launchpads in some levels, and you can wall jump to get to high places. And Lakitu's Cloud.
Clearly? They're the exact same thing: Running, jumping, going through pipes, swimming, etc.
Flying is way overrated, especially in Super Mario World. It was extremely cheap, and only gave a couple instances of true fun (the coin collecting part). To add flying where it's completely unnecessary (NSMB) wouldn't add to the experience.
The levels were more fun and exciting in the other games. I agree with you that NSMB is a very good game, I just don't think it's quite as good as you do.
Anyway, I guess we're just not going to see eye to eye on this, but I think it was a good argument. It's good to have different opinions, and it's interesting to get different points of view on things.
JMFSpike, I am tired of you saying that SMB2USA was not a real SMB game. Without it, you would have no Bob-Ombs, Snifits, Shyguys, Pokeys, the whole family of Pansys, Ninji...I mean you just do not know man.
They later used most of those enemies in other Mario games and made them a part of the series, but that doesn't change the fact that the US SMB2 wasn't a real SMB game. It's a game called Doki Doki Panic with some graphics changes and that's all. The game doesn't even play like the other Mario games.
So fucking what? It is canon, therefore, accept it or I will blast your mother fucking brains out of your stupid mother fucking head, JMFSpike! Then, when the nest sorry son of a bitch that dares to think like you comes along and says that bullshit, they will know not to say it at all in front of my face or behind my back or send someone else to do the deed. By the way, neither SMB2J nor SMB2USA are true SMB sequels, for the former is an expansion and the other one is a repackaged game, tool.
What is wrong with you? You get all pissed off because I said it's not a real SMB game, and then you admit yourself that it's not? Lay off the drugs, man!
"the words "What is wrong with you" and "Lay off of the drugs, man" should be more apropro for your own life, JMFSpike. Only people that use would be saying bullshit like you have been saying in here.
This auto-scroll was pretty funny :D Never saw it in Mario games.

i love the e-card levels, they have the puzzle element of SM2 but yet it's still SM3 :D

What game are the penguins originally from?
Filby 3 years ago
They're "Bumpties" and they're from Super Mario World II: Yoshi's Island for SNES, also, it was released as SMW2.

I doubt Nintendo will ever do that though.

It's not just nostalgia. They are clearly better games.
No flying means much less to explore since there are no sky areas most of the time. To take flying out of it is to go backward.

I'm just tired of the constant hate of NSMB, because it's really undeserving. :P
mm102030 2 years ago
It certainly doesn't deserve to be hated. It isn't even close to being a bad game, and it's definitely above average.

These levels are pretty cool, they have a different feel to them. You use gameshark to access them since an emulator does not have E-Reader right?
