It's a rare single storm cloud!! It happens when there's alot of moisture in a single area!!! I study science and have been for the past 11 years!!! Is there a pond underneith of it? There's got to be alot of water in that one area!!!
Ha, first time I saw one i was like WHOA! It looked like a giant popcorn with electricity. It is a cumulonimbus cloud (thunderstorm cloud) and they lightning is zipping inside and outside of it!!! PRETTY STINKING COOL
Its still looks weird though, like he said, its seems to be the only cloud around i dont know, he said he lived there for a long time and he never seen such a sight, it could be a lightning storm but yet it looks strange.
@sqottslahuud Your response makes no sense. The uploader's name is "intellectuallyhung" but he doesn't know what a thunderstorm looks like...what do you not get about the irony of that?
@PhrynosomaTexas pipe down rowdy fricken piper. ur way too worked up over this silliness. god forbid any body have a different point of view than ur own.
there are still a lot of unaswered questions regarding ligthtning formation. Lightning is supposedly the balancing of uneven electrical charge distribution. Presumably any electrical gradients are brought to zero with the discharge of a lightning bolt. It would stand to reason it would be awhile before we see an further electrical activity. Safe to suggest: such is not the case - as admirably-well demonstrated in this video. What gives? What goes on here? Your thoughts!
I have seen lightning shoot around inside of a cloud in Florida.... I have seen lightning hop from one cloud to another without ever touching the ground.... also in Florida.

Leave the man alone, he didnt know what it was, said he was going to ask the internet... whats wrong with that? So.... he didnt know, and now he does have an idea, fair play to him for attempting to learn rather than just baa-ing.

Holy crap. A thunderhead. They have interior lightning all the time. The ridge screens much of the lower part of the thunderhead. And the distance and the ridge screen the sound.
I have saw these comming just before a bad storm and have heard them called thunder heads. Usually when you see one coming it means a storm is on the way coming from that direction
Well, its definately an electrical storm.....there are many electrical phenomenon that science hasn't really explained that have accounts all throughout history. Crazy rains of rocks, frogs, fish, etc. Electrical discharges that defiy explaination....the question isn't what is it., its whats causing it.......
@fight2befree420 Oh yeah! Now I remember! The cigarette was that other time that people were talking something about lightening from inside a volcano. :D
It's Just a thunderhead ....The reason you cant hear any thunder is simply because the lightening in this case is primarily flashing across through the upper atmosphere where there's little to zero oxygen...
Thunder is only caused via lightening strikes when it briefly separates oxygen in it's path & the oxygen again abruptly merges again afterwards causing a clap affect..This is identical to a balloon pop on a colossal scale..

Where I'm from, we call it "heat lightning." It's just lightning striking back and forth in the cloud and not coming to the ground. If it were a single cloud, it'd be weird, but it's obviously part of a large storm system. It appears to be localized because only one plume of the cloud is visible. Nothing to panic over.
What..... A video on Youtube..... without a Chuck Norris quote..... I need to sit down for a moment!
Being serious, i think this phenomenon is called harvest lightning, at least in my country(U.K) it is. I'm not sure what causes it, but it is a strange feeling seeing lightning without the thunder. Very eerie.
The cloud i saw wasn't as big as this one, but it was still an amazing sight. Great vid btw. Ignore the clueless people trying to be offensive.
thats what u call global warming rolling thunder weird isnt it but bassically its a gathering of moisture that becomes super electric charged and it releases thunder upwards
It's a huge thunderhead cloud. Plus he is quite a ways away from it. Lightning that bright would make a large noise if you were closer. Could be the start of a lightning storm pointed directly at them. So that would be my explanation. So I don't think this is too unexplainable.
great vid....dont mind all the rude comments....this is what happens when kids use the internet without parental supervision....or that there parents dont give a crap
its just an isolated thunderstorm in the distance, this bloke thinks 3 minutes is long ! ive seen these last for over an hour in spain and majorca, its not that unusual to get storms like this.
what so strange about this video ? alien space craft or ship in the cloud making cover from everyone ,what's so strange ? and again....too small for stormy cloud , i they say it that they haven't heard any sound from there ,and if storm is going around ,it is at least 20x or 30x bigger than that small peace of shit in air ,it looks like only few km ,about 2 or 3 ,no more than that .
No thunder?HU!, i never saw lightening without thunder! You ARE right ,there was a craft inside the cloud. It was refueling or regenerating its power supply.
Lots of footage from nasa shows them hanging around thunderstorms.
I can watch these things build but I've only ever seen one cross my garden. That was quite some years ago. One night, when I was still able to use my bicycle, I saw four of them glowing like coals in the sky. That's just what they look like, a fire grate full of glowing coals. Now I know what makes them glow like that, I'm really pleased. They're beautiful.
What am I not getting here? Its a lovely thundercloud, with lightening and all that comes with it. Why so flabbergasted? I don't get it. I love thunder and lighning and it is always a cool thing to see, but it is not particularly unusual.
I saw that one evening in Pennsylvania. A storm front had come through the area. The atmosphere was still unsettled, and the storm itself was breaking up, but there were still cloud formations, including a big ass thunderhead like that one generating lightning. Awe inspiring to watch, but nothing mysterious.
lol. little kids. Well this is called a cumulonimbus clioud. It is driven by air rising really fast though the air. If that continues, you get these big clouds and they cause thunderstorms. Watch out though cause you don't wanna be caught outside during one of those.
Without sounding like a judgemental ass.. I'm going to have to say it appears to be a single Cumulonimbus with cloud-to-cloud lightning behind what appears to be a small ridge.. many many miles away. I also will guess you are out West, whilst I was in the Marine Corps, we trained in Cali in prepartion for Iraq; and we ran into a single gigantic storm cloud that caused hell for us on a firing range at night. But, the boy was right; those can produce tornados if several factors come together.
I saw a cloud like this in Alaska (where I live) about 10-12 years ago, but it had really bright lights flying in and out of it.They were flying out of it, descending/ascending really quick and then flying back into it. Along with the lighting goin on just like what you have. It looks spot on to what I saw only yours is without the lights. Weird.
yeah its pretty normal like in colorado too. We have clouds that look like the glow at night randomly. All it is, is mainly lightining inside the cloud arcing.
@w2hDavidPyroclastic flows are fluidized masses of rock fragments and gases that move rapidly in response to gravity. Pyroclastic flows can form in several different ways. They can form when an eruption column collapses, or as the result of gravitational collapse or explosion on a lava dome or lava flow
you guys are dumb to think he DOESNT know that's a cloud. its a question asked in amazement: "what is that?" example: when someone is amazing at something, one could say, "what IS he?" in amazement. the reaction is similar to the one shown on this video.
Idiot! words fail to understand how you can live 20 some odd years and not know what a thunderhead is. Its called lightning. You are too far away to hear the thunder. Did I mention you are and ignorant dolt?

lol. little kids. Well this is called a cumulonimbus clioud. It is driven by air rising really fast though the air. If that continues, you get these big clouds and they cause thunderstorms. Watch out though cause you don't wanna be caught outside during one of those.
danschaoticmind 1 year ago
Without sounding like a judgemental ass.. I'm going to have to say it appears to be a single Cumulonimbus with cloud-to-cloud lightning behind what appears to be a small ridge.. many many miles away. I also will guess you are out West, whilst I was in the Marine Corps, we trained in Cali in prepartion for Iraq; and we ran into a single gigantic storm cloud that caused hell for us on a firing range at night. But, the boy was right; those can produce tornados if several factors come together.

not actually unexplainable. it's only thunder of a cumulonimbus cloud
it goes really high so thunder is in the entire cloud as long as it has electricity

Weird.

@w2hDavidPyroclastic flows are fluidized masses of rock fragments and gases that move rapidly in response to gravity. Pyroclastic flows can form in several different ways. They can form when an eruption column collapses, or as the result of gravitational collapse or explosion on a lava dome or lava flow

its just a thunderstorm approaching from the distance.....

That is strange :/ to see a thundercloud is normal but just on its own in one pace is weird i never seen that before either.

you guys are dumb to think he DOESNT know that's a cloud. its a question asked in amazement: "what is that?" example: when someone is amazing at something, one could say, "what IS he?" in amazement. the reaction is similar to the one shown on this video.

Idiot! words fail to understand how you can live 20 some odd years and not know what a thunderhead is. Its called lightning. You are too far away to hear the thunder. Did I mention you are and ignorant dolt?
