This was touched upon in other comments, but to go indepth:
It's heavily said online that the "Sandy" in the lyrics is referring to Sandra Scheuer, one of the students killed during the Kent State shootings. So, lines like the slurred,"Can you settle to shoot me?" and "Don't you talk back" have a greater meaning. And "But guiltily I thought you had it coming" could refer to the sentiment some expressed, as immediately after the shootings, Gallup Polls showed 58% of people blamed the students.
I have always looked back...I was born in 1985. Thank God I didn't have the internet right away, life still had mystery. You actually had to look through card catalogs at the library, remember that? Remember doing book reports by hand? Those of us born in the 80s had the best TV shows--remember "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" We had to play outside and get dirty, scraped knees and all that.
Let's remember who we used to be and make a good 2012....Happy Holidays to my generation!!!

@NigerianRocker A-fucking-men! '90s: Before the disastrous Bush administration and China rising economically. There was a time when TV, movies and music were so great. EVERYTHING has gone down the shitter since the '90s!! My heart aches when I think of how beautiful my childhood was and the state of the U.S. today. I don't think we'll ever see prosperity like we enjoyed pre-2001 in our lifetimes.
@jfkjrlover dude its crazy...90's music still rock after all these years, remember sound garden-black ole sun, Nirvana, Blind melon,Rem, Alice in chains, Crash test dummies,Presidents of the Usa, Smashing pumpkins and Mtv shows such as Beavis and butthead, The Head, Aeon Flux, ....When the real world was the Real world....We won't enjoy prosperity again. i totally feel you. i also store shows like ducktales, doug and others for my kids so they don't have to watch all these really bad "kids tv" shows that are shown nowadays. 90s tv shows were full of fantasy, humor, they were moralising and didn't benefit on sex and voyeurism like all the crap today.
im 23 and was a kid through the 90s and the 2000s and saw the rise and fall of everything and now come to the conclusion that the 90s was better than the 2000s.
i loved this show. At the time I was Danny Tamperelli's age ( the younger pete) looked just like and my name is Pete. It was great because i could imagine myself doing the silly crap he did in the show.

I'm lucky to be born in 1986. I had a glimpse of life in the pre-digital era. It was fantastic. People were happier, friendlier and we had the best music and tv shows too.
@YSHTLWR Me too. Born in 1987. I'm glad I was somewhat old enough to remember the early to mid 90's, great times. I wish I was 23 in 1993 instead of now...
hey I don't have a TV anymore the PC replaced it and I can have a Camcorder to make movies at home. I think that's better than the 90s losers hated the real world back then too. they just watched TV and played D&D or nintendo instead of hanging out on my space and face book. times really haven't changed as much as advertising would lead you to believe.
@RantingGeorgiaJew Mate if you don't think life or people have changed since the 90s your the one living in a bubble. Theres always things that stay the same but 90s compared to now is a completely different world. There are some unchanged pockets but really attitudes, lifestyles, interests etc have all changed vastly since then. Same as will happen in 20 years from now and happened 20 years before the 90s. Change isn't bad just enjoy the time you live in and expect the unexpected!
@stunner38 But change should not be imbraced blindly. Not all change is good. I wouldn't consider the change that happened in Europe 70 years ago a good one. Which is how that began. People slowly accepting change until it was too late.
@LordPaynus Oh you must have missed that "very special episode of Pete and Pete." It''s the one where we find out that Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is actually taking human growth hormone. As a kid, it was tough to watch- one of my heroes...a complete fraud. Oh well, at least I still have Barry Bonds!
anyone who says there were less drugs in the 90s than now is a fucking retard with their nostalgia goggles on too tight. do you know how fucking huge ecstasy was back then? ever stop to think that maybe it just seems that way because you were only like 6 back then, and that obviously you weren't as exposed to it as you are now.
there is greater creativity now then in the 90s the fact is there's more everything right now then there ever was before now. and I believe that's almost always been true.
ok as a child of the 90s i love it alot more than the next guy and realise it was a time of real crativity in lots of art forms especially music, but we need to stop righting off the creatvity that is going on right now, ok so most mainstream stuff is pretty shitty but if you search there are some amazing people doing amazing things like jeffrey lewis for example who writes beautfiul poignant music and draws wonderfull animations to accompany said music
everyone says that supposedly the eighties and seventies were the best times to grow up in depending on the age of the people you ask. more then a good time I was a good age and being a kid is awesome whenever you do it.
@RantingGeorgiaJew You are exactly right my friend. People need to realize it's not the decade so much as it is being a kid and not having the responsibilities we have now. That said, the 90s were great.
Pete, Pete, Ellen, Artie, Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Endless Mike, Stu Benidict....How many characters can you remember from this kick ass show without looking them up?
One of the best opening theme songs a show ever had!
There was no better time to be a kid than the 90's. Not before or since.

RIP the 1990's.
You will be missed forever and ever and ever :(
Mikeraske 9 months ago 196
@Mikeraske Indeed...but songs like this one stemmed out of the 80's, and have more in common with that decade and the 70's than with the 90's.

What the fuck does Pete & Pete have to do with drugs? Are you all fucking retarded?
LordPaynus 8 months ago 3
@LordPaynus Oh you must have missed that "very special episode of Pete and Pete." It''s the one where we find out that Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is actually taking human growth hormone. As a kid, it was tough to watch- one of my heroes...a complete fraud. Oh well, at least I still have Barry Bonds!

@Mikeraske can't think of a decade compared to it The last generation where the kids were let to think for themselves.
Whooligan86 4 months ago 3
anyone who says there were less drugs in the 90s than now is a fucking retard with their nostalgia goggles on too tight. do you know how fucking huge ecstasy was back then? ever stop to think that maybe it just seems that way because you were only like 6 back then, and that obviously you weren't as exposed to it as you are now.
000BatFuck000 9 months ago 3
@000BatFuck000
drug use has gone up steadily since the end of the 80s bro. look up the statistics.

jabhoops33 9 months ago 2
there is greater creativity now then in the 90s the fact is there's more everything right now then there ever was before now. and I believe that's almost always been true.
RantingGeorgiaJew 9 months ago
ok as a child of the 90s i love it alot more than the next guy and realise it was a time of real crativity in lots of art forms especially music, but we need to stop righting off the creatvity that is going on right now, ok so most mainstream stuff is pretty shitty but if you search there are some amazing people doing amazing things like jeffrey lewis for example who writes beautfiul poignant music and draws wonderfull animations to accompany said music

This theme song fills my heart with such JOY. God, to go back to the 90's. I'm glad I got to live every day of them as a kid (89 baby).

I fucking miss this show, and love the music.
MrRichiesixx 9 months ago 2
This was the greatest show Nickelodeon EVER aired... This show was so smart and on such a different level.
This theme song is also just as memorable, 20 years later and I still think about it.... Just amazing!

everyone says that supposedly the eighties and seventies were the best times to grow up in depending on the age of the people you ask. more then a good time I was a good age and being a kid is awesome whenever you do it.
RantingGeorgiaJew 10 months ago 4
@RantingGeorgiaJew People like to romanticize the past. Every decade has good and bad things going on in art.
TheoHuxtable07 10 months ago
@RantingGeorgiaJew You are exactly right my friend. People need to realize it's not the decade so much as it is being a kid and not having the responsibilities we have now. That said, the 90s were great.
