Thanks for posting this. I've never seen film of this era Golden Earring. Their first live album has been one of my favourite records, since I first heard it, not long after it was released.
I met Eelco some years ago in Breda, after his show. He told me that the years with the Earring where best of his career. "We played like tigers". And indeed Earring Live '77 is the greatest album ever made by a dutch band. One of the best ever made, by the way.
One of the great songs of LIVE '77. I was shocked when Gelling went out of the band, but these guys were ment to be a 4-mans band. Kooymans is a great player too and one of the best songwriters.
Saw these guys a few times in concert back in those wonderful 70's and they always rocked hard to try to blow the roof off!!! GREAT in other words! Thanks for sharing this rare gem!
After so many beers I must really concentrate to write this ... however,,, imagine a little radio station in San Antonio, Texas USA... in 1977 they played this... KISS fm 99.5 thanks Lou Roney and Joe Anthony... they played everything commercial radio did not play...
funny, i live in the US (Chi-Town) these days but i grew up in the town this gig was played, called Zwolle, Holland. It's weird to hear less obvious Earring tracks on the radio here....I've heard this song on College radio! The hall they played here is called "IJsselhallen" and has the worst fucking acoustics EVER! They still play there almost every year and i've seen all sorts of gigs there, from Motorhead to Status Quo. Good memories.
Do not mind USA can you imagine small town in former Yugoslavia. Sarajevo is name of a town and Disco Club namad CACTUS where DJ played this song allmost evry evening along some much more sirius stoff. Mozda neko iz ove generacije cita ovo. Pozdrav
This is the rock and roll sound as it is meant to be. The tension and suspense increases during the song and explodes at the end of the song when Eelco Gelling plays a wonderful solo. By the way, the interaction between Eelco Gelling and George Kooijmans was marvelous.
They're are the greatest rock band ever. Period. I've gone over to NL from canada and seen them live six times. Four electric and two acoustic shows. If you wanna have fun go to the outdoor electric gig they do every June in Strijen.
A great song indeed. You should check out the unplugged version of this song. So good it give's me a chill down my spine listening to it. You can find it on the unplugged cd The Naked Truth 1. I think is track #4. Look it up, you won't regret it! Greetz !
Don't know a DVD. The concert is on the "Live" CD from '77. Great quality, but some of the long tunes are shortened (Eight miles high, Vanilla queen). I'm waiting for the full show ...
I loved Radar Love and Golden Earring but I never knew about all their other wonderful music. Being a babyboomer, this kind of beat makes me feel almost young again, this is what made us feel like we'd never get old!
Great performance of one of Holland's best guitarists (Eelco Gelling) together with one of Holland's best songwriters (George Kooymans) and a great guitar player too. This is great stuff, listen to the solo, awesome!!!
Let me add my name to the long list here who consider that double live album to be a classic. It seems so long ago now. I was in college and my friends and I loved it. I haven't heard it since then. I think that I will look for it. Rock on Earring fans...
They played fantastic on that album, but really, most of the songs on there I don't care for at all in the first place, except for Candy's Going Bad. I'm a fan, but I don't like the Contraband-era stuff.
Earring's live album remains unequaled. Is there any more footage out there of '77 Earring? They were awesome at this time. 30 years later I still try to influence friends with Earring live at the Rainbow. I'd die for video of the boys doing Vanilla Queen late 70's
Totaly agree. Earring Live 77, the album of my life. Last year I met Eelco Gelling and I thanked him for this. For him it's also his greatest work. But the guys are life still ok.
Such a beautifully played classic! The 1977 live record is one of the best recorded and mixed live records from that decade - easily on par with Deep Purple's Made in Japan - I've had it on high rotation since the day I got it more than twenty years ago. The combination of George and Eelco was something to behold.
GE always has been rather a nice band but with Eelco they where awesome. Excellent guitarplaying! The man was at his best at that time. Like to see more videos with Eelco (if possible).
I've got a copy of their live '77 album, and this song always gets a "who the hell is that?". Unique material. Eelco Gelling and the Earring was in fact a bit like the Stones and Mick Taylor. Especially when he's playing blues slide, like he's doing here.
This an unique musical document. I have never heard this song before. GE and Eelco Gelling should come together for one more time. Eelco deserves a big audience once more.
I've been listening to this song for years, but this is the first time I've ever seen it performed. Eelco is amazing, I always liked his playing with GE.

The first concert I went to was on Golden Earring's 1977
tour. They opened for Ted Nugent on December 27, 1977
at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
I went to the show with my best friend Jeff. 32 years later
we're still the best of friends. A good friend, like good
