Great version! I had forgotten Santa Esmeralda had recorded it.

Gloria was originally done by Van Morrison and "Them" and also by Shadows of Knight at about the same time.

Morrison and Them did not have the "pop" appeal the Shadows of Knight did, but Morrison and "Them" had the best version.

This version by Santa Esmerelda is a close second.

The Doors never did this song.

This is like he's giving a nod to the then current punk scene as well as disco.

This is a great album that got a lot of favorable reviews from rock critics who didn't usually like disco. But this had crossover appeal. "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" took up Side 1 of the album. Flip it over and it's "Gloria", a much-played-at-weddings ballad "You're My Everything" and a sizzling "Black Pot" ending the album.
