ha my band camp isnt like this. we wake up, at home, come to school, practice on the hot parking lot for 5 hours, 1 hour dinner break, then practice another 3 hours, then go home. then repeat lol. we dont sleep in the woods or anything

Also, I'm glad to see that my experience with band so far seems to be the general experience that everyone has. That tells me that thousands of people get to have this great experience. I do have a question: Is there that aura of familiarity in large bands (100+)?

This one time at band camp..... Yeah those times really happen, and we love every minute of it! Being one of the few girls on Drumline, we tend to have more of "this one time at Band Camp." But I'm proud to be a Band Geek! Band is my family and we stick up for each other, and pick on each other too. I wouldn't trade being a band Geek for anything!:)

Okay, as the female percussionist, and trumpet player, I gotta say band is amazing. And a lot of our band geeks are secretly hot. Like at first glance they're all weird looking, but try a double take next time ;) and amen to the drumline movie slam. I watch that movie and cringe. And it's not even clean.

the thing is that we cannot be out nearly as long as these guys, just because of the outrageous temperatures. during summer we got on the field at 7 and we marched until lunch. then we left. we never have true band "camp". we're forced to teach each other, since we have only three directors and no one else. its hard for us, because our school district keeps cutting funds on EVERYTHING

I think the band geek stereotype should be concidered an honor. We are a family, we have fun, and we get it done. If one more person makes the American Pie movie joke when I say 'THis one time at band camp...' I'll go insane. Acctualy, we made a joke about it in my band clique. It's "This one time at band camp, the circle happened. But don't worry, we kept our clothes on, and we're all still virgins." Because people get so mad about it.

My band camp practices 13 hours a day for the last two weeks of summer, but we don't get to stay in cabins. Our school won't even let us set foot on the Football Field besides games and the occasional pre-competition practice, so we usually march on the asphalt. It's still a ton of fun though, I love it. And yes, all my non-marching friends pull out the "This one time at band camp..." thing ALL THE TIME. DX

Your band camp looks really fun. At mine, all we do is 3 hours of parctice for a week, before school starts. We review basics. (I believe is a waste of time, we should automatically start with music and drill) it's not a real camp. But at least you have 30 new friends before school starts ") my schools band is pretty small

omg this is so true like i have alot of people last year tell me band is for wierdos and in 6th grade we all got teased we have never got told this but in 6th grade someone yelled HEY LOOK AT THOSE BAND GEEKS! and i was all like you know i rather be a geek instead of a boring person!! but then like we're in 8th grade now and like after i said that no one has said anything bad about band now like alot of ppl want to be in our band lol! and i made a video called band geeks forever check it out! =)

this camp looks awesome, you get to spend the night thats awesome! we just meet at school in the morning which is never cold i wish it was cold instead of blazing hot! and then we just go home, its would be cool to play games like that. i wish i got to experience an actual camp, instead of hrs at a skool

hey we are called the pride of imperial and in our school nobody cares if your in band. band is awesome in our school my my old highschool almost every person is in a sport and in band camp which is 2 weeks but we dont stay incabins or stay over night we just go to our school from 8 to 3 and we live in the imperial valley which is a desert and it goes up to 120 degress so u guys are lucky

Your band camp is so cool! We don't stay overnight we just come every morning at 8 march till 11:30, lunch until 1. Sectionals until 3, then marching until 5. All week! And we live down south, so it gets VERY hot and humid. I think the it got up to 100 one day at afterschool practice...

Dude, band geeks at my school are considered cool and like sociable. The dorchestra is where the orch dorks are and they're like the actual geeks. Band camp was the hardest and best week of my life. Couple people went to the er, one kid got stabbed but he an the staberee were friends so he didn't press charges, people got accused of weed including me, and the colorguard got drunk and made out a lot. I met the coolest and weirdest people ever.

people at our school dont realize that we work hard at what we do, but we are one of the only groups at our school with a state title and came out reigonal champs. its not easy being a girl that marches baritone but after a while you become kinda manly lol but 12 hours a day doing this isnt easy for anyone! but its a love hate relationship. our band does have some crazy stories though! :) good times good times

I totally agree with you guys. I have never gone to band camp because my dad is in the military so I rarely get off base. Since I live in AK they don't really have camp only MAYBE during the summer. But it does get hot here so just in case you would want to know. I would love to go to band camp. (I play the clarinet)

SOOOO true,,, my band is one of the best high school bands in ga and we work really hard. and we dont have some amazing band camp like that. but we still have a lot of fun together. i wouldnt give it up for anything. its hard work and i just wish that the dumb football players would realize that. our show for '09 "The Machines" is really difficult. and we are going to the south east district competition. only us from GA. so the band cam hours. and sun burn are worth it!

I fucking hated band last year. Probably because I joined during the school year as opposed to doing a band camp during the summer, so I was fucking terrible. I'm doing band camp this year, so I'll see how I like it this time when I (hopefully) don't suck ass. And if I still hate it, I'm not doing it next year.

Y'alls band camp looks WAY better than ours. We have the "Show up and march during the heat of the day, then go inside when it cools down to 100 degrees" type camp. At our school, not out in some cool forest.

Band is awesome. I feel bad for people who mock us. They never get to build these life long friendships, have 200 family members to back you up no matter what, enrich their lives, etc.etc. Band is love.

I know, I'm a trumpet in one advanced classes, but also a football player and one of the popular kids. I asked why they make in fun of band kids and they said they thought they were just nerds, but I think it's because they are mad that the band kids have more talent & fun!

Wow, you're guy's camp sounds more fun than ours. See, ours, you just showed up on the field

at 8:30. We'd have our warm ups, then have about an hour of fun block. Then we;d work on the show until 11, have an hour of sectionals, then at noon we had an hour for lunch. Full band was 1 to 2:30, then back on the field until 6:00. Then we went home. Two weeks of this. It was so fun. Except for the part when you got eaten alive by bugs and got sunburned.
