Big Mama also wrote "Hound Dog". While I'm a fan of both Janis and Elvis, it's such a shame that Thornton never achieved the same level of recognition and acclaim as the white kids covering her songs.

I've been listening and viewing Ball and Chain much of the afternoon. This is my very favorite. I love the sound but also she is so beautiful and looks happy and healthy. She is one classy lady. She didn't have to mention Janis. Her talent is beyond what we can understand...look at TWO of her backup bands. Muddy Waters Band and Buddy Guy Blues Band. THEY WERE BACKUPS!!! She was the star.
