I really liked that, hope there is more of it. I think if's it's learned and practiced and the symbolism behind all the motions are explained it will be adopted quite quickly. It could be dressed up a bit but for testing purposes I think it went very well.
Bro The maori werent one tribe either And some of them even speak words differently like some say Wakatane instead of whakatane, and the haka isnt a dance its a challenge
i would like to sumthin ... look maori can u please stop bein so racist seriously ... i think both of the teams did a gud job and it was a great game so u really need to get over k. take a chill pill seriously and hunters are warriors too look it up!
There are hundreds of different haka from new zealand so I'm unsure where you get that new zealand only has to know one and to be honest there wasn't really much that the aborigionals had to learn for their one.
Aborigionals were more hunter gatherers than warriors wernt they?
the commentator needs to shut the fuck up when he says "i think we will get some football boys... at some stage". so disrespectful
also the aboriginal "dance" is rubbish compared to the maori one; it's not even a dance.. all they do is make weak thrusting motions as they step forward.
if you bothered to read my post you'd see i do have some respect - i was annoyed at the commentators for being impatient and talking about when the fucking football is coming on rather than respecting their traditions
but in regards to my comment about the aboriginal dance being rubbish compared to the maori dance, i'm not sure what you mean by 'respect'. it's not a very good dance relative to the maori one, and that's all there is to it. maybe you should respect my right to free speech.
its the second bit, even if it isnt very good you need to acknowledge it is peoples culture and heritage and just saying its completely rubbish lacks respect IMO
no, it is not. supposedly the creation of the haka was inspired by an event that included hiding under a womans dress, but is the haka actually about hiding a womans dress? no.
obviously you're either too dumb to comprehend a wikipedia article, or you've just decided to create your own story in order to support your stupid crusade against nz.
riiight.. and your telling the commentator to have some respect, hypocrite.
if you say its not even a real war dance you need to understand its their culture and you cant disrespect it by sayin its shit compared to the maori haka (which they have been doing in games since 1888)
@TruBlu1901 i've studied aboriginal culture at a university level - in australia, no less - so i have a comprehensive understanding of their culture. there's nothing wrong with making a subjective comparison between the two dances.
your comment about how the haka has been done in games since 1888 is completely irrelevant. the age of the dances has got nothing to do with anything.
my point was if they have been doing it since 1888 they have a certain sense of showmanship towards it, they know what they are doing and they know how to create ambiance.
This is the first time to my knowledge that any aboriginal war dance has been performed as a pre-match ritual or whatever you would like to call it.
@TruBlu1901 it's a war dance - it wasn't designed for the game. it doesn't matter that they've only done it for that particular game as they've been doing it in appropriate situations (ie before a battle) for decades.
this is besides the point, anyway. the skill of the dancers isn't the issue here, it's the dance itself. it's barely even a dance; as i mentioned before, all they are doing is making thrusting motions with an imaginary spear.
there were words to it though. Also, going back to my point I raised before I would like to say that they are not experienced at the whole pre-match dance ritual thing because this is the first time they have done it (to my knowledge) they probably could have done it far better, or differently, if they had the experience of the maori team.
But now it seems the argument has drifted from the main point. so whatever. im not gonna reply. its a waste of mytime
here is a something to consider, there are over 500 different Aboriginal tribes in Australia with different customs, different language, and different dances. So OUR war dance isnt something that every Aboriginal person has been taught, because we all come from different tribes. So that "Rubbish" dance is a symbolic dance that indicates that our people were warriors and fighters. i mean no disrespect to the Maori race but they only have to know one dance.
Ehhh new zealanders are commenting, they always have to compare nz to aus.. Who cares! Respect to the aboriginals for doing their thing

The HAKA is about hiding under a womens dress.........it might be warrior shit in the NZ.....but in Aus the call that being a bitch!
kooririck 2 years ago
i live in australia and i've never heard anyone say anything bad about the haka. be quiet with your nonsensical aus vs nz shit.
porlorlorl 2 years ago
So is the haka about hiding under a womens dress? it doesn't matter what country you live in, the answer is still the same plain and simple!
so can you answer the question please?

yes, it is not really a dance, correct.
