When in the video? In the beginning I was loading up the gun and 2/3 of the way through I was losing the front sight and sight picture. I bring the gun in closer to my body, sort of like a basketball player bringing the ball towards his chest before he/she makes his next move. This allows better control in my opinion for manipulation of the gun (reloading, clearing jams.)
Also closer to the end I was losing some of grip and had to re-adjust. Not really used to the snap of the .40SW round.
I just got my XDM 40 yesterday! I haven't fired it yet but I am excited to soon! As far as the 357 goes, I was under the impression that you could change the barrel of the .40 to .357 and it would fire that round no problem. Not that I plan on doing that but I thought you could.
It was a fun time meeting other dealers in the business. The grip was the stock medium size? It was whatever Springfield put on the gun at that specific time their tech felt like.
nice vid. im waitin for my incentive check to that bad boy. but im hopin by the time i got enough that they will have the .357 sig ready. any word on when they might have it out?
Thanks, I doubt on anything in .357 Sig for the XD but thats my opinion. I would call SA and ask. Only seems like they gear their guns toward 9mm, .40SW, and .45ACP. .45GAP and .357 Sig aren't really as popular as the other 3.
what about durability? Can it hold up in extreme conditions like mud, snow, sand, salt water. i live in Miami where it don't snow but the humidity is 90 plus..
I have not done any tests. The above was a dealer/Springfield Armory demo. If you take care of a decent firearm (I don't know about you but I would not trust my life on a Hi-point) it will take care of you.
Not a fan of the .40. Snappier recoil than a .45 ACP and a smaller frontal diameter. I'll take the diameter and the slower recoil. Golden Saber .45 hollowpoints expand to .71 caliber and penetrate 17" into ballistics gel. That's more than enough penetration.
I might buy one when it comes out in .45. I like the OD green and black slide combo. Not a fan of the "shiny" slide. Like practical weapons, not "pretty" ones, not shooting a movie here...
Nice--thanks for posting. Looking at the exact same myself. Went into the store fully expecting to buy a Glock 17; it's a perfectly nice, but the grip angle just wasn't for me. Ended up with a Beretta m9, but would still like an XD. How's the finish on the new XD's? Any complaints? Barrel looks awfully high up on the gun, but owners seem to say they don't notice a huge difference in muzzle flip. Well, thanks again for posting--congrats!
Your welcome. The gun is not mine, was a dealer sample. There was a all black one and a bi-tone one. I prefer the bi-tone one due to the not too shiny but still shiny nature of the slide. The muzzle flip wasn't that bad on this gun considering it is a .40SW. The finish doesn't seem to bad. I cleaned a few XD's and the finish seems ok to me (build up came off easily enough and there wasn't any serious defects in workmanship that I could see.)
ScrewU9X, I chose the XD over the Glock for a few reasons. 1)Grip angle. XD angle closer to 1911, Beretta 92, etc. I want all of my guns to point the same. 2)the XD will accept a modified beretta mag. 3)the XD trigger breaks better. 4)the XD strips like a Sig. 5)As a 1911 shooter I like the grips safety 6)I like the chamber loaded indicator and the fact I can see the striker is set.
All valid points for you but grip is pretty much one of the biggest factors in choosing a gun, along with shooting it well.
I personally like the Glock trigger over the XD-M. I have built each of my Glocks differently (Glock 19 has the NYPD 12.5# trigger, Glock 22 has a ~6.5# trigger (3.5# connector with NY1 spring along with a 25 cent trigger job), and my Glock 39 has the stock 5.5# trigger.)
Although my Kimber Custom TLE II has a sweet trigger. No creep, no over travel, crisp and clean.
My friend has a full size glock 45 the grip on the glock is wider that the xd. It really comes down to personal preference. But, I will say I love the loaded chamber indicator on the xd's as well as the other safties the glock does not have. The XDm takes no time to take apart and you dont even have to pull the trigger and you only have to push one piece up to take apart as opposed to pulling the two tiny grooves down. or maybe that has changed.
Sure, maybe in your own world where you buy everyone guns. I prefer to have a choice of different firearms. The XD series is not going to replace my Glock in the near future, but hey thats me.
I prefer the grip angle over the XD and the Glock has a more extensive track record. Ever take apart an XD into individual parts? Not quite as easy as a Glock in case a part breaks. The Glocks are also issued to countless law enforcement agencies. Not to say jump on the bandwagon or anything but that has to count for something.
I have the full size xd-45 and I love it I almost purchased two so I can have a set of twins. I looked at the new one with the safety but figure I don't need a safety and this came out $650.00 msrp $699 for the black one but im going to wait for the father's day sale LOL
It's nothing like the P30 or FN. Feels like shit in your hand is personal preference. Personally I am not crazy about the grip, Didn't try it with other backstraps.
It felt fine in my hand after shooting it. Based upon initial feel and looks I would not buy it though. The gun did tame the .40SW round's recoil though. Did you hack open the box and take cellphone pictures of it?
@nebula25x - Not a fan of .40SW...

Actually they do have the XD in 357 sig but not in the XDM configuration yet

I have seen these XD's in .357 sig and .45GAP but they are hard to get. Was referring to the XDM series. Thanks for the heads up though.

Props on the higher than usual framerate on the recording of the film/footage.
TheSakeOfGod 3 years ago
Thanks for the props. Video was taken with a Canon Powershot A540 (lol, I know its old but still works well) on 640 setting at 30fps.
ScrewU9X 3 years ago
NP, also looks like you got good control on an otherwise kicky .40 round. If that's you shooting that is.

anybody know when theyre gonna come out with an xdm in .45
bearsfan1294 3 years ago
Soon by the looks of it. The 9mm version is already out there in small numbers (19+1.) I estimate within the next year or sooner.
