What matters is how Filipinos and the Philippines will do about their future.
Anthropologically, all Austronesians, Amerindians, and Inuits came originally from mainland Asia. Using the 80-20 rule, Filipinos are 80% Austronesian and 20% other (East Asian, South Asian, Arab, European, and even Amerindian, etc.)- how can anybody really prove this one way or another. You can use the same rule for Mexicans (80% Amerindian and 20% other). Some Filipinos like to pride themselves as mixed of that or mixed of this; which is a shame. I was reading a thread of Polynesians opinions on Filipinos trying to associate themselves with Polynesian. One person pointed out that you never see Polynesian people perform Filipino dances, only Filipino performing Polynesian dances LOL So true. Pretty much of what I've seen most Polynesians respect Filipinos but when they start wanting to be who we are and take our identity, it pisses a lot of them off. They prefer Filipinos to be Filipinos or Asian and let us Pacific Islanders be Pacific Islanders.

Ours is totally different from other Asian people like Han Chinese, culture of Japanese people, Korea, Mongolia, or even Vietnam from people who belongs from Austronesian, with strong Hispanic Culture influence and American. We have a lot of Filipino-Chinese community that practice the Chinese Culture and because Chinese people were also one of the earlier settlers in the Philippines some of our food was Chinese Influence.

Does Filipinos drink kava like Pacific Islanders do? No. Did the Filipinos believe in a god called Tagaloa(Samoan), Tangaloa(Tongan), Tangaroa (Maori), or Kanaloa (Hawaiian)? No they did not. Filipinos have a common culture AND history with their South East Asian brothers and sisters.

There were very few actual Filipino kids shown that were actually of FILIPINO ethnicity. Anthropologically, all Austronesians, Amerindians, and Inuits came originally from mainland Asia. Using the 80-20 rule, Filipinos are 80% Austronesian and 20% other (East Asian, South Asian, Arab, European, and even Amerindian, etc.)- how can anybody really prove this one way or another. Why is it that most Paciific Islanders so brainwash in thinking that they are the only islanders just because they are polynesians micronesians and melanesians? Filipinos are islanders too. Philippines is made up of over 7000 islands. And so are Indonesia: the largest archipelago in the world of more than 10,000 islands. The Caribean Islands? I'm just saying lol.

The term Asian and Pacific Islander was invented by the US government for their own economic benefit, sadly it is still taught in school today. All I can say is we need to stop labeling ourselves, everyone is different and unique, and thats the whole beauty of it. If you're Filipino then just be Filipino.If you're Samoan...cool, Jamaican...awesome...there is nothing wrong of just being yourself...Because if you think about it we are all unique individuals.

Indonesian/Malaysian repaid it bac by migrating back up to the Philippines and Taiwan with thier Hindu/animist culture from India

Geographically the Philippines is Pacific.
Genetically and in Ancestry, it's a mix of East Asian, Khmer, Malay, and Indonesian. Therefore, Filipinos are ASIAN with a pinch of European (unfortunately).

Many of the Philippine's borrowed words pre-Hispanic era are of Chinese, Japanese, Malay, and Persian/ Arabic descent. Which makes sense because in the middle ages and ancient times, Many Asian nations and Muslim nations settled and traded in the Philippine islands. It was a cultural hub. Not a country.

The Filipinos do not share the ISOLATION factor of the Pacific Islanders. Filipinos have been in constant contact with the mainland Asian continent as well as southeast Asian peoples for thousands of years. Pacific Island cultures evolved out of EXTREME isolation. A distinctive social system, mythology, gastronomy, way of thinking, and way of being resulted. Filipinos living in the Pacific islands refer to themselves as ASIANS. Only Filipinos in the USA dont want to be called ASIANS. Curious.

Isolation factor does not determine whether a type of people are asian or pacific islander.
Not all Filipinos in the Pacific Islands refer to themselves as asians and not all Filipinos in the USA don't want to be called asians. I met them.

@circlefilasantatacus I disagree. True pacific islanders WERE isolated. Filipinos were not as isolated that is why there was many other cultural influences prior to the arrival of the spanish. Filipinos had their own form or writing also. None of the Pac islanders had their own form of writing. Most Filipinos living in Pacific Islands dont identify themselves as pac islanders because they know theyre not the same. And pacific islanders cant relate with the filipino/asian way of thinking.

Filipinos,Chinese,Japanese, etc. are called Asian because they live in the continent called "ASIA"
Asians doesn't mean looking Chinese or whatever. "Asian" isn't a racial or ethnic term it just means originating from the Asian continent, which Filipinos did. Our ancestors migrated from Asia as in Southeast Asia. Chinese , Japanese, and Filipinos maybe different but they are ASIANS.

Some of us become foreign looking when the Spanish, American, and Japanese arrived. Our national costumes are just influenced by the Spanish.

30% Thai looking people.. brown skin with small eyes. around 5 foot 7 tall
40% Malaysian Looking people.. brown or even dark complexion.. broad nose.. around 5 foot 3 to 6 tall
20% Southern Chinese Look.. Dark Yellow skin small eyes. not very tall. and small body frame
