  • OK she deserved the grammy ... sorry

  • so damn sexy

  • I love this woman. I'm in love with Esperanza

  • What a great story. No agents, no stylists, no nothin'… Just Esperanza! This just goes to show all of us what hard work, determination and a vision can do for you. Thank you Esperanza for sharing your vision and talent with us.

  • @bob4247 beautifully said, she's truly an inspiration.

Im so baffled that I actually saw her play live just a summer ago randomly playing in my local park, that blows my mind O_O

thats the best part i think, shes becoming famous but shes still willing to play down to earth free shows anyone can see

  • @thewyndian Thank you, I am almost 68 and have been a fan and player of jazz most of my life. I've been very fortunate see, live, stars like Trane, Miles, Mulligan, Cannonball and on and on, I've also been lucky enough to be on the same stage with some very famous musicians like Gerry Mulligan. In all that time I never thought I see someone carry the jazz flame to the grammy stage and win the way Esperanza did! It has done wonders for the Jazz community.

  • @thewyndian About Esperanza. Her talent is mesmerizing, stunning, inspiring, outstanding and totally absorbing. I have become huge fan. I am doing all I can to spread the word.

  • @bob4247 Amen. and MAN i cant believe you saw Miles Davis and Trane, ahhhh! haha, im 18 and miles was probably already dead when i was born >:(

  • @thewyndian I was about your age when I met Miles. And shook his hand! I was 20 and in college. I had a program on the College's radio station WRSE-AM/FM. An associate scored press passes to the Playboy Jazz Festival at Soldier Field in Chicago so we had the run of the place including backstage. I've had a very blessed life. I shook Trane's hand also. I've been to several Cannonball Adderley venues, but never got to talk to him.

  • @bob4247 !!!!!!! A Very blessed life indeed! MAN! Safe to say you can die happy, haha

  • Love love love the spirit of this young lady. Very real and very talented.

  • i totally love this woman....the only jazz bassist i'm buying now....

  • Great Girl!

  • What's the name of the song that starts at... 0:00 ?

  • This is an extremely interesting girl. Forget the vocals...her playing is pretty good and her appreciation of jazz is heavy for her age. She's also got a serious piano player in Leo Genovese. You may want to pay attention to him as well.

  • Woww!!!

  • what is that last song that plays on the video as the video is ending?

  • the funny thing to me is that 99.9% of you gobbers making comments can't do what she does,so stop the comparisions and enjoy what she has acomplished at such an early age, because u know theres more comming 4 u to hate on!!!!!

  • Get with the programme dreiib. All of the comments made about Esperanza are contructive and testament to the fact that we all think she is a great musician (but that does not stop us from expressing critical comments). You have introduced the word "hate" into this - not very helpful, so go away and let us get on with discussing music which is should be all about peace and love.

  • she sounds great. All you jazzholes are just jealous because you aren't as good.

I meet jazzholes all the time. When you break the mould, everyone hates. And if you don't think Esperanza is a unique and valued contribution to the modern music world, you're either a resurrected Michael Hedges, or you're a fucking moron.

  • jazzpsalti you nailed it...Esperanza's story is jazz in itself. She is definitely the real deal.

  • @drelib I guess the haters are really hating now.

  • being influenced by and channelling other people doesn't mean you don't have an individual voice. nobody would be anywhere without the steps others took before them. All music we hear today is "derived from other styles" contemplation09. Esperanza doesn't sound like these other people mentioned - she sounds like she's heard them. I would say she has a very individual voice, with her vocals and on the bass. I wish I was half as talented on either.

  • Great Idea!!

  • :) nice

  • awsome shes got a nice fro shes a good singer and she aint bad looking either

  • her bass skills counter the rest of those amazing attributes.

  • Is it just me or does Esperanza sound like a mixture of Corrine Bailey Ray, Erica Badu and Alicia Key's? Someone once said, "Jazz music is a musical point of departure" Esperanza's music sounds like it has been derived from a host of other styles. Hope she finds her own individual voice to go with her excellent double base playing.

  • i hope so too.Music needs restoration!!!!!!!

  • dont forget the rest of the talented gumbo

    recipie....sade....jill scott...billie holiday

  • she's actually more talented than them in that she plays an instrument that is rare for a woman to play. she's definitely unique and not a pop act.

  • interesting? Well John Coltrane sounded a lil like Sonny in the beginning. Marvin Gaye sounded like Sam Cooke. Ultimately they sounded like themselves? Right?

  • wow
