@44eelz Alex is playing bass pedals with his foot. You can see he's looking down at the pedals during the keyboard solo. There's one video of Subdivisions from Reno on the Snakes and Arrows tour that shows Alex doing this really well.
How many bands are this tight live? Neil missed timing on a couple of fills but other than that, this sounds pretty much like the record. Every band should sound this good.
Usually in a song you here vocals and guitar and the bass and drums are in the background. But not here they all play something that's different yet the same, and the way those parts intermingle make the sounds huge!! I love rush because its all so amazingly original
sin duda una de las mejores banda que ha atribuido mucho al rock con un buen bajista y tecladista, guitarrista y su gran baterista que no tiene comparacion eso lo ase una buena banda RUSH lo mejor de lo mejor
Most drummers just keep the beat, and are part of the background sound....but not this man.....he is the main sound of this band and that is what makes this band so unique....simply timeless and perfect tempo
The most musically talented band there has ever been....Geddy lee is just an amazing bass player, Lifeson is a brilliant guitarist, and Neil peart well, has there ever been a greater drummer ?
I cant think of enough superlatives to accurately decribe just how good this band is.
I remember a school buddy of mine turning me on to 2112 when I was 16. I was blown away and have been a huge fan from that day on. They have aged like a fine wine.
theyre not. which is fucking stupid..... rush is one of the greatest bands ever AND theyve stayed together all these years and theyre still not in the r$r hall? makes not a shit lick of sense at all.
I was wondering why the synth in beginning sounded so weird...I realized that its Alex's guitar that gives this song a odd sound to it. I wish he hook up his guitar synth for this song.
Such a beautiful song. Gotta love how neal finds any little excuse possible to just tear up his drum kit. I mean within the first minute of the song he has to hit his kit at least 100 times.
Subdivisions has been my favorite song of any band since I heard it. Signals has gotten me through all the hard times. Even now as I sit here bummed out Neil, Alex, and Geddy are cheering me up.
@superbulldog81 Geddy used to play Tauruses. Now he plays Korg MPK 130s. The Korgs are actually a vintage MIDI foot controller just like the Tauruses. The same with the Yamaha KX76 he's playing with his hands. It's another vintage MIDI controller. Once again, Geddy's Roland D-50 is vintage, but it isn't a controller. It's a synthesizer with it's own sounds. The D-50 is much like the Korg M1.
Where do I get a shirt like Geddy's? I mean, that is one cool fucking shirt, you know what I'm saying? If you know the brand let me know, cause I have to have that.
Has any hear these bands that Musicphan1 is talking about? They are the absolute worst I have ever heard. How can he can he compare this MARTIANMUSIC to Rush? Not even the same Galaxy. And, Yes, I too have a hard on for Rush--ever since 1978. DUDE, you have no musical ear.
ya who cares what he uses on his voice, it still sounds amazing, he is getting old and with that ur voice begins to get worn (especially after 30+ years) just look at The Who at the superbowl, guys voice didnt sound very good, so its amazing that they arde still going strong
@JoshMWSU You mean you don't hear progressive hard rock/metal in the mainstream of this quality any more. There are many underground heavy metal groups that make stellar music that have started in the past fifteen years or more. Razormaze is one that sticks out, a local band here in Chattanooga called Night of the Wolf is another. Also, there are many independent punk, new new wave, bluegrass and rockabilly groups that bring it as hard as Rush does.
Dude, I understand you've gotcha a boner for Rush, it's understandable, they can shred. As far as prog metal, it's doubtful anyone has as much virtuosity. But when it comes to music in general, there's at least a few groups that can top these guys. Brian Setzer Orchestra, Reverend Horton Heat, Dick Dale, Brad Paisley, The Infamous String Dusters, Vernon Reid and Dave Rawlings Machine. Not taking away from Rush, but there are tons of top notch shredders out there.
In any case, they're not the end all be all. There's no one that is that. It's all so subjective, anyway but they do kick azz! (Although, I would say it's an objective statement that Rush also writes very good even stellar songs. At the other end of the spectrum, most of today's newer hard "rock" groups like Nickleback write horrid songs, I don't care how much they may/may not shred.)
I really don't care if they're playing vocal samples, if Geddy Lee is using an octaver to sing bass parts or if they're using a metronome. This music is rather technical and just to play these parts without having to sing is still impressive. Anyone who has ever played in an ensemble, even if it's just 3 chord punk rock knows that keeping things together can be challenging.
Also, is this a fan video? The audio is very nice, what did you use to record?
Everyone should see Rush perform live at least once in their lifetime! Not only do they amaze you with their musical ability, the stage show will blow you away!
By the way if you don't believe me that Alex doesn't really sing most of the lines hes known for, just listen to the new Far Cry when alex's amp blows (type up - "Alex Lifeson's technical problems") And his amp blows right before the solo and the part he sings right before Geddy sings "It's a far cry from the way we..." The oh oh oh, part he doesn't sing it a synth line Geddy plays. Because hes no where near a mic. and the part is still heard.
Niel plays to a click track that alows Geddy to trigger prerecorded synth or vocal harmony lines and still keep them in-time. Like other stuff, Alex's vocal line is really Geddy singing it beleive it or not! It's preprogramed in the original version and is played back here, live. How does he get it so low? Well in the studio he could say "Subdivisions" in his normal voice and they use what they call an octaver which makes it sound like a bass singer is saying it.
Where is the bass sound coming from while Geddy is playing the synth solo? Geddy's clearly not doing it with either his bass pedals or left hand. Is Alex triggering it with his bass pedals? Or does the sound crew have his bass part on repeat? Does somebody know the answer.
I'm pretty sure it's alex playing bass pedals. Geddy's left hand is probably playing the pitch wheel on the left on the synth. If you watch a vid of this song from the Snakes and Arrows tour, where he uses the top synth for the solo, u can see him doing this. Also, alex is standing right in front of his pedal board the whole time and kinda looking at the ground, instead of moving about the stage like he usually does. He's probably playing the bass pedals.
I'm going to forgive him on that note. He has just as much going on as an F-16 pilot does with all his triggers and synth stuff. He is good at what he does, no doubt.
It's not a voice distorter; it is definitely a sample, triggered by the bass pedals. The voice saying "Subdivisions" has been consistent from night to night since the Test for Echo tour.
I think it is a distorter. The same one. Because Alex does say it. Watch at 2 mins on this one. He clearly says it into the mic. He has a pedal somewhere.

It still sounds good with the mistake. If I had never heard the song before, I don't think I would have even noticed.

You're both wrong, he hits a voice distorter and says "Subdivisions" if it was a sample, he wouldn't talk into thatProxy-Connection: keep-alive

He is mock-speaking it. Just because he's moving his mouth doesn't mean he's saying anything. Can we just agree to disagree?

I think your right that its a sample. Just like the live vids of "far cry" alex "sings" the vocal harmonies but its very obviously geddy's voice
