NEW ADVICE: Spotted today on the National Parks website:

What you should do when approached by monkeys

Park visitors

When approached by the monkeys, you should look down and walk at least 1.5 metres away from them. Do not look into their eyes or bare your teeth as these are signs of aggression and challenge.

Keep food and snacks in haversacks and not in plastic bags. Do not eat in the presence of monkeys.

This sign is posted in Singapore's MacRitchie Reservoir Park: Safety Advisory. Monkeys may approach you if you are carrying food items. If approached, avoid eye contact, discard the food items and move away from them. Please call 1 800 471 7300 for enquiries.

I really think the npark should do something about it cause their fangs are HUGE! imagine if we had been bitten. Omg!

Another great defence against aggressive monkeys is a laser pointer - aim it at the ground around their feet and it scares them off.

My cousin and I were at Henderson Wave when about 5-6 monkeys went towards us and starting going through our stuff. When I wanted to take my bag(which had our IC & car keys) they attacked us. I fell when running -_-" but I think that scared them off. Alot of ppl looking but too scared to help. I ended up with a sprained right arm.

Something should be done. Their fangs are huge!!

Part 1:

Some advice on how to handle a monkey attack from WikiHow:

Stay calm in the unfortunate and unlikely event that you are attacked.

If the monkey charges you, don't fight back. The monkey can run, jump and climb better than you. Find something to get in between you and the monkey; a garbage can lid, a car or a steel door, anything you have that works.

Never show your teeth. To a monkey, a big toothy grin means a challenge. He will definitely attack you.

Part 2:

Avoid eye contact as this is a threat as well. Try to focus on their hands or something other than the face.

Be the bigger primate. Don't yell, scream or sing to the monkey. Being aggressive will only get you attacked. You are the human, you have the frontal cortex, you can differentiate between right and wrong. So don't act like an idiot.

Part 3:

In my case, 2 things got the monkeys to back off; first the car horn that sounded when I used the remote to unlock the car, and then I stamped my foot hard on the ground.

Sadly I can't find any advice on the National Parks website regarding what to do if monkeys decide to attack.

@CosmicThrash These monkeys are really becoming aggressive! I also had another encounter in Admiralty Park but fortunately I was on my bicycle and managed to escape!

What saved me at Executive Golf Course was my car! I ran back to the parking lot (that is the blurry part of the video) and when I unlocked the car the horn sounded - which startled the monkeys. Realizing that they were confused, I then slammed my foot on the pavement and that was what got them to retreat.

Far from the wild - it was in an area that is by a reservoir surrounded by a public park & a golf course. I was filming from a spot just across the road from a parking lot. What can't be seen in the video is the fact that six monkies flanked me on my right side, but I didn't notice them as my full attention was on the monkies playing near the drain pipe. When the one sprinted right at me is when I realized that I was surrounded & they were all bearing their teeth. Not very friendly!
