  • I remember life without PlayStations in the United States. I've also lived in third world countries. Even without our PlayStations we are nowhere as ignorant, bigoted, violent, nor as small-minded as the third-world - which is to say, most of the world. Sorry, it's a pretty line, but it doesn't ring true to anyone who's been around for a minute or seen what else the world has to offer on an intimate level.

  • AMAZING!

  • When I first heard this track/poem I loved it. Now I've grown up a little and realise what utter shit Ani diF is spouting in it.

  • Can anyone recomend me some more of her politcal songs? She is amazing and I absolutley love the deepeness of this song. Nothing like it.

  • @Violentrevolution90

"Fuel" by her is really good. It's another poem. There's so many political songs- from what society expects of women to society in general. "Millennium Theater" is a good song, "Not a pretty girl" is about what society expects from women. "Evolve" is another good political song. There's so many.

  • Nice job on the video, mollywobbles. i work graveyard shift downtown in NYC, and came off my shift that Tuesday morning just in time to watch it happen. Even now, 10 years later, I look out my office window down on the Ground Zero construction. Ani speaks right to my sensibilities, and your video gave me goosebumps. I lost friends that day, so it's not easy to look at those photos. But you have to. Even with GWB gone, not much has changed, I'm sad to say, but your hard work is much appreciated.

  • Ani Difranco, although a humble musician, has preached so much more truth to me than any newsreader, popular celebrity, politician...or anything else people tend to feed off of for 'facts' these days.

  • 10 years later and I hear this song for the first time - as a survivor of that fateful day getting off the 74th floor of tower 2 as well as one who walked down 101 floors of steps one February day,,, damn you Ani for spewing the truth and making tears stream down my face yet once more forgiving the bastards that killed my family. Forgive and forget - move forward with no regrets. Live each day to it's fullest and be thankful for what you got - for in an instant it can all be gone...Peace Out!

  • frigg this is good

  • I am a huge Ani fan but I don't agree with all her politics; while I am more pro choice than pro life, it is a little ironic that she salutes criminals on death row yet praises doctors who give abortions. Just saying. Also while I feel that this country has a lot wrong with it, I don't whole heartedly agree with her saying that America has never said "please" or "thank you" as a justification for 9/11. I also don't think its wrong to think that ones own country is the best.

  • I watch this every 9/11. May all those poems rest in peace.

  • this is a great video. you did a really super job. hard to improve on ani, but you did it. i always facebook this video today.

  • post this on FB to shake the 9/11 dust forever from all of us.

  • It's 10 years and let's be clear about what really happened. This was the biggest lie sold to the American public. This was a inside job and we need the truth so it can't happen again.

  • @ritziecuck oh stop ---

  • @SweetBee13 Keep your head buried in the sand and fuck off!

  • Iraq war: civilian deaths 102,416. That’s one 9/11 every 3 months for the past 10 years. No monuments. No minutes silence.

  • WE should never forget - that our grief was not a call to war!

  • These words, these images and all the fear that has come after the fall of the towers propelled me to a place of peace where I can fight back without being overwhelmed. I can protest without the need to drown in a bottle. I can feel without having to hate.

Hey Ani! Your dream of the train is becoming a reality. The new diesels are remaking the landscape, and I, like you long to see the back yards of the world as I whirl through to my "next destination."

  • NICE! Molly.

  • Great video, really good work.

  • Pretty snotty. I know you're white and pissed at Israel. You got your money.

  • AMAZING!!! I love that she sticks to who she is...never waivers...never fails...

  • Great song! Hi to everybody over there in the USA and all over the world who can still think on their own. Spread the truth. love you all!

  • wow the crowd is fucking rabid!

    cool song.

  • Who ever put this video together, I just wanna say THANK YOU. This is amazing. Great representation of this wonderful poem in pictures. This must have taken a lot of time - thank you for sharing, truly!

  • "Here's a toast to all those

    nurses and doctors

who daily provide women with a choice

who stand down a threat the

    size of Oklahoma City

just to listen to a young woman's voice."

I burst into tears on this line.

  • @ThumbprintTheatrics

I know, I love that part too.

  • @ThumbprintTheatrics I know...me too. She knows how to word things so eloquently..

  • Always look behind the scenes there is much more that the other 90% of the population dont know. Its always a phony election. They are elected by their peers.

  • Almost 10 years later and what has really changed? The media is fooling all, no change in energy policies, everybody just working for the weekend. My weekend comes when I get to watch all fo it collapse just like those towers.

  • you did an amazing job. truly.

  • Out of the mouths of artists.

  • Amazing song, and amazing video. Really well done, and thanks for doing it Molly :)

  • Damn.. I'm a grown man and this makes me cry. We are all in this together.

  • This video is awesome!

  • I'm 17 and I live in Wales, and I can't say that 9/11 hit us as badly as it's reality in America. But I still grieve, and this song makes so much sense, the way she describes the event is so striking. She is a powerful woman, and I have to listen to every word she has to say. I'd love to meet her.

  • fuck the banking elite.

  • awesome vid molly, thank you!!!!!

  • This makes me shiver.

  • 2:50 ...when the music kicks in...it's like sex.

  • the ending literally took my breath away

  • Great job on the video!

  • Just ask the Armenians...the 10% who survived.....if the world needs protection from the bloodthirsty Jihad of the muslims......BTW......abortion is the Murder of an inconvenient unborn Human Being...it's not a choice , it is Murder....Cheney and his idiot sidekick Bush either allowed or MADE 911 happen, on this I agree Lady....

  • @papahix

Quit repeating yourself, loser. And abortion is not murder. Deal with it.

  • @papahix

Do NOT blame all muslims for the acts of a few. To do so is absolutely ludicrous. Muslims are not to blame for 9/11, it was the result of the actions of a few radical individuals who call themselves for muslims. What they have done is in no way commended or supported by the Qur'an. We are not the moral compass of the world, the war in Iraq does not protect our freedoms and we are a country manipulated by the media and fear.

  • @MeDueleTanto Sorry to tell you this but the Qur'an DOES support this. If you denounce what they did then you have to also denounce the Qur'an. along with the blible, the torah, and every other book that claims to know anything.

  • @MeDueleTanto It's obvious that those who appreciate Ani would NEVER "blame all muslims for the acts of a few."

  • @MeDueleTanto

9/11 was blamed on "radical individuals" but that was not the truth. You must understand that this was part of the all out war on the individual, orchestrated by those at the top of the pyramid. The media manipulation goes much deeper than most are willing to even consider. There is plenty of verifiable physical evidence that clearly shows that all three WTC skyscrapers were brought down with large quantities of high tech military explosives... but not many people know about it!

  • @smitty121981 TRUTH

  • Just ask the Armenians...the 10% who survived.....if the world needs protection from the bloodthirsty Jihad of the muslims......BTW......abortion is the Murder of an inconvenient unborn Human Being...it's not a choice , it is Murder

  • Just ask the Armenians...the 10% who survived.....if the world needs protection from the bloodthirsty Jihad of the muslims......BTW......abortion is the Murder of an inconvenient unborn Human Being...

  • @papahix Wow. So how about everyone who is inconvenienced by rape, extreme poverty, or the physical inability to birth children, just drop off the unwanted, and sometimes life threatening offspring at YOUR house. That would fix the problem right?

  • Respond to this video... I LOVE this video! It is one of my absolute favorite Ani songs. I mutter it to myself while I'm doing just about anything that doesn't involve talking to other people. And the video is so well put together that the photos in it pop into my head while I sing to myself. Thank you, and good job.

  • Governments and the greedy individuals who occupy governmental positions will always use any means to develop hatred among the population. It is by doing this, that they create the illusion of the need for them to protect... and subsequently reinforce their own positions of control and power.

The first thing we should be looking for protection from... are our own governments.

  • wonderful - well said sister

    :)

  • punk music in the purest form

  • This is beautiful! almost had me tearing. great job.

  • you did a fantastic job with the video!

  • this woman gave me one of my best ever gigs. Saw her at the ABC in Glasgow a few years back. A very, very important voice today.

  • So powerful and amazing. She is a brilliant writer.

  • so true .....

  • What an amazing way to fly over the hurts! She's an artist.... Her voice cracks me up!

  • Bring back our fucking Constitution of our country!!!!! Everybody who is in office and our law enforcement perverse it. So they might as well burn it and forget it. Because freedom isnt free. Never will now the damage has been done. Where is our second bill of rights that FDR wanted. Please for god and goddess sake... please please please pass it immediately. This country needs to be what it should be. Without stealing votes and setting up others to escape their wrongdoings!!!!! Thanks!

  • "take away our playstations and we are a third world nation". I read that quote some time ago but didn't know what it meant till our economic system crumbled and the veil came off.

  • We're moving forward and beginning to repair the damage created by this war but please don't overlook the other things Ani touched on in this poem...things so important, social and environmental. Let's all do the little things in our power...lets do our part. Solar and wind power. Green houses and gardens. Reduction of fuel consumption. Shop local. Support our farmers. Speak up for human rights and encourage diversity and tolerance.

  • Freedom of religion,Freedom of speech,The right to keep and bear arms......

  • magic just magic!

  • this video is sikkkkkkkkkk, you definitely did this song justice! by far one of Ani's finest!

  • killed it

  • Fueled by radical fundamental Islam.

  • Said perfectly with love

  • I like the way she criticizes the american politics.well done,woman O.O

  • f n love it

  • Brilliant video...what more is there to say.

  • Love it! Great vid

  • Wow! I thank God for artist who tell it like it is! Thank you Ani!

  • Well done Molly. Well done... ;-|

  • ''it dont take a weather man to look around and see the weather''....great vid, i think of this while riding on trains, and at times with my fam in war time. we are not made for this...people all have instinct, but no ability to tell the difference between that and humanity

  • ''it dont take a weather man to look around and see the weather''....great vid, i think of this while riding on trains, and at times with my fam in war time. we are not made for this...people all have instinct, but no ability to tell the difference between that and humanity

  • 'Cause take away our play stations and we are a third world nation under the thumb of a blue blood royal son who stole the oval office in that phony election.

  • I used to play this on my radio show, it still affects me every time I hear it.

Amazing assembly of images which amplify Ani's powerful message, fantastic!

  • This is so deep; it requires listening, really listening. Ani is a true artist.

  • can't understand it at all plzz help me

  • What don't you understand?

  • one day this was playing on the radio. I'd never heard it before. I was already late to an appointment but I just sat there in the parking lot, listening & crying

  • tell it like it is ani

    love you

  • most amazing piece of protest music\poetry i've ever heard

  • she is telling us what is now provable. 911 was an inside job

  • she never says that. Her point is 911 was used by the government for their purposes. I don't know what she believes about who did it, but the song doesn't come out and give an opinion on how it was done

  • "remember the first time around? the bomb, the ryder truck...the princess that didnt even feel the pea?"

  • this is creepy as shit

  • thank you for putting this up! really moving...

though i did not like that one sign you had on their "let's kill us some towelheads" maybe you were using it to show ignorance in america...so i'll let it slide :)

  • #1 george w. bush is not president

#2 america is not a true democracy

#3 the media is not fooling me

  • @Milleneufcentcinq

    "'cause take away our playstations

and we are a third world nation"

    So true.

  • I think it is funny how everyone is pissed off on Obama, and they are picking him apart with absolutely no discussion about what has been going on in the us this past decades.

  • Oh my god this is so fantastic...

  • great job thanks for sharing this

  • spot on. louder louder!! wow amazing tingles all the way through. love you annie xxx

  • Awesome job on this vid...chilling.

  • does anyone know why ani has been so silent in regard to Obama's decision to increase troop levels in Afghanistan?

  • @deliciousmorton You have to keep in mind. Her job is to sing, play the guitar, and to entertain us. I know she sings and talks about politics a lot. But be patient. She's a musician - not a political analysist. I'm sure she's pissed, but we don't know how much is on her plate right now - her private life....

  • Powerful images to go with a powerful peom

  • Well done!! This is one of the first things I ever heard by Ani Difranco, I was so impressed! And still am! Brilliant woman...

  • Many Many thanks for the work you have put into this amazing.

  • fantastic work - really shows how much time and effort you put into it - thanks so much!

  • well done!

  • Wow, thank you!

  • Your father gave you something irreplaceable in his passing, and in his exsistance. What I wouldn't give to see the same light in my father.

    Keep asking those questions...

    Cheers.

  • i have to say, that i have never taken the time to leave a comment on a video. but i have now come across this video, watched it, and would like to say this: this poem, this song, has always given me chills and i have always loved it. this video is incredibly well put together, and you have done an amazing job. i thought you should know. the images you used made this even more powerful, and i commend you.

  • couldnt of said it better myself

  • SHUT UP AND LISTEN! Great video btw.

  • Excellent !

  • ...God bless Ani...

  • you did a wonderful job making this video.

  • This video is profound. Well done.

  • Clinton was impeached. Impeachment is a process, not a result (in the same way indictment is). If you're going to be pedantic, you should get your facts right.

  • Bullshit. The first World Trade Center bombing happened in the first year of Clinton's term - he promised the perpetrators would be caught and punished. The ring leader was already in jail for other crimes - he was retried and his helpers were caught, tried and got life sentences.

You could learn a lot from Ani. Or just by remembering what happened.

  • America didn't impeach Clinton-it was a GOP witchhunt over a man who cheated on his wife & lied about it. RamsiYousef bombed the WTC in 93',not Osama Bin Laden.WTF are you talking about?

Those last two sentences mean two different things. That's why they are two sentences. One, you can learn a lot from Ani. Two, you can remember your history.

How am I the hater? My first post contained nothing but facts refuting the lie in your original post. Clinton DID do something. Look in the mirror pal.

  • Also, Al Qaeda - it has no "u" - is an organization, not a person.

    See ya at the library...

  • I couldn't agree more. People are shaped by their surroundings and they only listen to what they are comfortable with. They don't think about what is happening outside of their viewpoint. And war isn't a new occurance. That's why you and I are here. And everyone else posting.

  • Bill Clinton was impeached, but he was not required to leave office. The investigation and trial is the impeachment process. Impeached doesn't mean leaving office, it's the process leading up to that. Congress made the decision that his "crime" didn't warrent being forced to leave office. But he was impeached.

  • Speechless - rare for me - Ani is by far my hero!!!:)

  • Ani Difranco = True American Patriot

  • bloddy hell..... thats Amazing, its so powerful... and, amazing....

  • Wow.. This has always been one of my top songs by Ani... Your hard work on this video really brought out the poem's message...Wow.. Your dad would have LOVED it.. <3.peace.=) chL

  • I remember this being performed in London fairly soon after the event, 2,000 people hanging on every word. Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

  • Your father taught you well - a great video to a great track.

  • Yes , yes , yes ... loved this back in the days. Tried for some time to think of the artists name, and yes, this morning it came back to me while biking my daughter to kindergarten.

Such strong lyrics and eerie atmosphere.

( Ps ; Back in the aforementioned days I enjoyed Ursula Rucker , Saul Williams, Ken Nordine and others transforming spoken word into powerful musical meanings)

  • You would be wise to introduce Ani's other music to your daughter. You would be giving her a great gift.

  • You are right and my daughter is already getting healthy doses of qualitymusic + she has her own playlist with her favorites .

My girlfriend tuned in to this song too and was deeply touched in a *wauw*-kind-of-way.

    Music is the healing force.

  • Great song. Love Ani.

  • google - the big picture by max igan

  • It is hard for me to speak adequately to this. I can recall being at an Ani show in Tampa where there was a chance I could meet this stunning artist personally and I can recall saying to my friends, "no I am not waiting here, I'll meet Ms. DiFrano when I've done enough to ask her to coffee." Many years have passed. I hated this song at first, I have a visceral rejection to naked liberalism just as I have a visceral reaction to naked conservatism -- I want to fuck it -- Now I feel she did right.

  • Nicely done... great video.

  • Yeah maybe but he is a good start

  • All things are transparent in time

  • still moving, years later.

Love an artist that truly has something to say and doesn't hesitate to let it out.

a great editing job, well done.

  • very true and very self evident .

  • if theres anyone here who isn't a republican, does agree with everythiing she just said, and is based in the UK & interested in helping to form an alternative newsletter - get in touch!

  • im republican and i dont agree with everything she says but god shes powerfull

  • By the way, ANI ROCKS!!! She is the quintisential Righteous Babe. I've been following her since her first cd in the early 90s. Speak your herstery Ani, we're listening.

  • I always get chills from this.

    Its so passionate.

  • I have just discovered this thanks to a documentary about Bush. It's great!!

  • Ani speaks with such passion. I still remember when my Social Sciences teacher played this in class when I was in high school. It's been years, and it still rocks me to my core. Her artistry is fantastic.

  • hi guys,

Does anyone know where to get a copy of this version?

I have the one from carngie hall, but there is something about this one that i woudl love to be able to listen to whenever I want to :)

  • Her live album, I think simply called 'Carnegie Hall'. Pretty sure this is the same version on there.

  • .... you can actually find this version on "so much shouting so much laughter" - the album she released in 2002. (i'm sure)

  • It is a documentary called something like "world according to Bush". It is the sad story of how this bunch of bastards (including Aznar, I'm spanish) drove us to the world we've got now (with the help of our votes)... Sorry, I didnt want to talk about politics...

  • I think I like the unfinished version as much as this one or even better.. It think that one was more real and convincing cuz it was the first time she was performing it for an audience.. But I still think it's brilliant and like the new ending a lot.

  • Absolute truth! This is awesome!

  • cool as fuck x
