Thanks for posting this. I rode more or less by that route and back for 5 months, every weekday (Zeist --> Utrecht Centraal). Brings back a lot of good memories.
@sthomper89512 There are detection loops in the asphalt. It detects either cyclists or other traffic and makes lights go accordingly. Buses have the highest priority at most junctions in the city. But at other crossings cyclist go first. It depends.
Yuk, I would hate to be a pedestrian in this city. Run for your life on crosswalks. Those barriers for cars and bikes are ugly. How depressing everyone in a mad dash.
@Nigel4670 The two pedestrians you saw running were going through a red light. The other pedestrians can all walk calmly. Yes the barriers are ugly. But they are only temporary and very effective. I don't see people in a mad dash, although the whole video is at double speed of course!
Great clip! I was meant to go there the other day, but got waylaid in Amsterdam (ahem). I hadn't looked for clips of Utrecht beforehand, which is odd, but it's nice to see what awaits me when I eventually make it there.
Awesome!! you should have made this vid in summer tho.I cycle this same route about everyday and wanted to make a vid JUST like this except that i don't have a cam so thanks!!.
Please make one in summer sometime with sound..the crouds of people, music festivals, sunny days, people at cafe's....
I think a new wheel costs more then anti-leak tires or some patching works. And if you ring someones doorbell i'd geuss you would have had a 80% chance that the person would invite you in to repair the tire free of charge.
That is not a cycle path split but a cycle path beginning. Before it was a shared road, from there it is a car lane on the left and a cycle path on the right. The red color on the shared road means cars are 'guests' there. So they are expected to stay behind cyclists rather than overtaking them.
i am turkish man i been in utrecht was time 1990 i know a long time a go) well all i can tell about this beautifully city onvoorstelbaar or ongelofelijk ))
Thanks for uploading. I'm American and I visited Amsterdam many years ago, but I made the mistake of staying in A'dam and not going outside to see the rest of the country.
At the time I didn't realize that Holland is a really small country and you can make day trips from A'dam to other parts easily, and that you don't have to be in A'dam to get weed.
Dont worry some even think that Holland is the capital of Amsterdam. Amsterdam is nice but is very very international oriented. Nothing wrong about that, but cycly out of Amsterdam in the morning and you get another view of Holland. I would advise foreigners to visit Holland not Amsterdam :)
Ik fietste vroeger elke dag van station Lunetten naar station Overvecht (8km), ongeveer 20 tot 25 minuten fietsen. Als je met de bus gaat duurt het allemaal veel langer (in de spits meer dan een uur)!
Utrecht is the best cycling city in the world, on the way to my girlfriend on the other side of town (8km) I pass just ONE traffic light! On my way to the center of town there are NO traffic lights (4km) and to my parents home (6km) there are 2 traffic lights.
Oh that wouldn't be high, I think. We do not really aim for speed here. The lenght is about 2.61 miles or 4.2km. Take into account that this is shown at double speed and some of it is missing (very short parts of the journey and some seconds at traffic lights).
thanks for responding, yeah Netherlands look really nice. you guys are so lucky that you have your own lanes and plus it flat. i live in a very hilly area (Yorkshire) but the weather is the main problem here in the UK. Anyway good riding.
I would think the weather in the UK and the Netherlands is quite similar. The only inclines we have though are up and down bridges and in and out of tunnels. ;-)

is there some scheme that makes the bicycle intersection lights default to green via sensor or are some timed to change at intervals??
what characteristics of an intersection make the bike light switch to green automatically or make cyclists stop at a red light?

@Nigel4670, Pedestrians are probably safer in the Netherlands than they are anywhere else in the world... except maybe Venice.

Even cyclists have the courtesy of making turning signals with the arm...what a great culture for cycling.

Mooi filmpje. Je zal maar elke dag van de Uithof naar Utrecht CS moeten fietsen. Het is doenbaar, maar niet makkelijk.
