Ailurophobia fascinates me; I can't imagine being afraid of cats. All my life I've loved cats. My mom says that when I was a toddler, she used to take me on walks through the neighborhood and I would befriend random cats and get them to follow us. Even today, when I go into a bookstore or something and they have a shop cat I always try to make friends with it and cuddle it. And of course I love my own cats. :)
@473kittycat lucky u...i grew up around dogs..never cats...in india, having a cat as a domestic pet is quite rare..i developed my fear round the 3rd grade. ...i remember the headmistress in my boarding school owning a cat and i actually remember petting the cat(for a short while)...that's probably the last time i touched a cat. believe it or not,
i remember hearing people around me say things like "cats aren't as reliable as dogs and they are evil"....i guess things like that influenced me 2 a
@473kittycat certain extend....as weird as that sounds...but when i see cats..my body tenses and i feel the need to be alert and on guard(for what? i don't know)...well, i'll admit there's a part of me that suspects the cat will pounce on me & proceed to attack me. i know cats attacking humans are rare...i hope that never happens to me. ugh!! there's this neighbor's cat which i seem to bump into quite a bit(4 times now)..i always get the chills when i see it. my steps quicken whenever i see one
Cats run and leap out very quickly, they do everything quickly, and they are very observational. They will watch anything closely even from far away and they are sharp listeners. This all makes large and small cats all very good killers. All of this typical cat-like behaviour make people scared of them or even hate them I think. Not me because I love them.
Some are playful in a naughty way also. Like my long dead darling who hid under my bed's skirt and tapped my leg & did this 3 weeks later!
All over the Middle East including Israel, according to this Israeli guy I dated back in the day, cats are everywhere all over the streets where they're allowed to roam and have their babies everywhere! LOL
I took 2 years to do therapy to get rid this fear. My parents have cat to help my theraphy. Now I still scream when see cat. But at least not knock out or cried hysterical anymore.
OMGsh I thought I was the only one scared of cats!!!!! I feel bad for this lady because I am terrified of cats too..and when I say I'm terrified I AM TERRIFIED!!! I know what she means.
I used to get a bit creeped out when I walked to the bus stop and the neighborhood cat would just pop out of nowhere, but now I don't really mind. I'm actually quite fond of them now.
the reason why most people are scared of cats are because they dont understand them most people understand dog body language but cat body language is more complex and most people fail to see what they did for the cat to react negatively cats like all animals attack because it feels their is a reason to when i researched cat body language i learned how to approach cats and knew when to and wen not to
i don't blame her i knew a boy who was deathly afraid of butterflies only thing with him was he expressed any fear with laughing so everytime we said "flutter flutter" or he saw a butterfly or even heard the word he would go into a laughing fit
i bought myself a cat 5 days ago , i loved cats since i was little , they are so cute BUT i do not know why after 2 days i was scared of the little cat and i don`t know why ...... its such a strange feeling and now i gave my cat to a friend :(
what a bunch of stupid comments! don't criticize what you don't understand... a phobia is an an irrational fear coming from an early traumatic experience... the thing that triggers the fear is not important, what is important is the experience that generated the phobia. there are people with fear of clowns for instance.
I have ailurophobia. This is not because I think the cats are evil etc, but because I am afraid that they will jump on my head (go figure). I still do not know why I have this fear, but i do for as long as I can remember.
They are very sly, you cant trust them jajajajajaja, its a cat, i have 2 of them, when i didnt have any i didnt mind them but ive come to love the little rats, however i do sometimes feel that they are smarter than they appear to be, the stare at thing that are not there, they stare at me, could they be aliens?
when I was about 4-5 I tried to get on the big slide in the playground...and some kid started bullying me and started pushing me back towards the ladder...(mind you the slide was a good 10 feet in height, and I cried and it took 3 teachers to get me down...
12 years later and I can't go near the edge of a high place..
I've met many people with a fear of cats; one woman even told me it was because they looked like people...
IAWTC. Once, my front door was opened and i was lying belly-down on the floor, watching tv when a cat came in and licked my leg. I looked back and screamed cos i was shocked! I think the cat got terrified, too and ran off.
A week later i was on my way to school when the same ct came out of nowhere and attacked me. I ran like hell!
I don't like cats. Kittens are cute but I can't stand the sound of them meowing. Plus they always climb up my legs with their sharp claws and bite me when I'm trying to sleep. I like dogs cause they are more playful and they are dependent on you to take care of them. I don't mind walking them in winter. Plus the puppies are adorable. I don't know why anybody wouldn't like a dog.
oh. I love my baby ( cat ) though I respect your oppineon. Pa pa HERMIONE! sorry. my cat Hermione ceeps chewing on the ear phones to my I-pod, and walking infront of my monitor
my science teacher has a germphobia. a kid sat in her chair and she cleaned it with like a bucket of sanitizer for the whole class. and she turns of the lights with a meter stick.
but not that bad as her i could look a picture but when it comes to them comming near me i freak out its a terrible thing because cats are everywhere =[
So my point is cats are much better pets than dogs. Sure you can get a dog to scare off burglars, but a security system can not only provide anti theft protection, it also can alert you to fire and carbon monoxide and it send the fire department and paramedics out to your home, that's much better than some stupid dog barking.
they don't ruin your shoes (and other items in your home) by chewing on them. When you have people over they don't jump up and slobber all over your guests, or sniff their crotch/butt and cats definitely do not hump your guests legs. And you certainly don't have to go outside (especially when it's freezing cold outside) to walk them then carry their poop around in a little baggie, that's so gross. My cat actually buries his poop under the bushes in the back yard, so it doubles as fertilizer.
Dogs can be trained not to do those kinds of things. And not all dogs bark a lot it depends on the breed. Not all cats go outside to poop. Some use litter boxes which smell gross and in my opinion are worse then cleaning up dog poop outside. Plus cat poop and pee gives off this chemical that isn't healthy for humans to breath in and it can be dangerous to you if the box isn't cleaned correctly.
they really do give off a chemical that isn't healtly for us. i never knew that. i guess i should wear a mask or just hold my breath next time i clean my cats litter box.
Cats are way cuter (kittens are adorable), they don't bark and when a cat meows it usually means something, like can we play now? or please let me outside. Unlike stupid dogs that bark at every single thing in the yard. (even when the leaves fall from the trees my neighbor's dog goes nuts barking). Plus cats are so independent and low maintenance, they don't have to be bathed since they do it themselves. They can be trained to use a litter box or simply go outside n their own, plus
That's ludicrous! I was much younger than her (around 6 or 7) when my neighbors dog came into my yard, growled at me and lunged at me, then chased me through the yard, but I made it to the back door before it could sink it's teeth into my leg. Now I'll sit and pet a friend's dog, and take it for a walk (but I'm not picking up the poo b/c that's gross). I much rather own a cat (and I do) but not because I'm afraid to have a dog in my home.
I have my son (cat) Hes my world to me. I actually saved m cats 1, 2 definatly maybe 3 or 4 times. But yeah hes my baby. Do anything for him. He loves me 2 hes always rubbing on my face and constantly by my side. except when sleeping. usually with mom but sometimes in between or next to m legs. His name is Capain Penny. His names got a story behind it. Its funny to. we only have 2 cats but i want another. But cats are my 2nd fav animals. why are some people afraid of em? There all so cute.
I wonder if they could cure my phobia of underwater objects, especially logs and anything that's not supposed to be underwater...I hyperventilate and shake for a half hour after seeing even a tree root under the water. I can't think of anything 'good' about those things, unlike cats and hospitals.
But cats are such innocent precious little things. I love cats. My cat is my little buddy. He rubs his face against mine and talks to me by making cute little chirping sounds.
wow, her heart was pounding from looking at a picture??
Surely it only affects her when there's an actual cat there... because her neuro dysfunction is associated with actual, live cats rather than a picture of em
i have a slight fear of cats because of the claws and teeth but im getting over it since my friend has like 3 of them and they are very nice except the crazy kitten
Not sure I'll bother watching the 2nd part of this video, the presenter and the two 'coaches' seem so patronising! The guy said at the beginning he's never met anyone without a phobia - not sure if that's true, and everything else he and the woman next to him said, I could have said and I have no experience apart from having a phobia myself. I would hate to work with those people. You can't just interview someone about their phobia, show them a picture then talk to them and it will just go away!
Had you watched part 2 you wouldnt have posted your message because they didnt expect the phobia just to go away, cured her. After she had suffered for 39 years, she was shown a picture of a cat only to prove to viewers that her phobia was genuine not to patronise her! As for your comment about being able to say that yourself and you having no experience, you then contradict that by stating YOU have a phobia! I would advise you take in ALL the info before making comment so you dont look silly!
if she has cat phobia, how can she use internet then?

What?
SOSAnimals2013 3 years ago
Maybe you're afraid of drowning under the water... you must go with a psycologist

y show the poor woman a picture of a cat? it's sick!!!
TuRdSandwitch18 3 years ago
Actually they do it so they can help cure her and see how afraid she really is, to see how much "healing or curing" she needs.

But cats are such innocent precious little things. I love cats. My cat is my little buddy. He rubs his face against mine and talks to me by making cute little chirping sounds.
scubajenjen 3 years ago 58
@scubajenjen I love cats too. But sadly this fear is irrationally.
Treehugger19900 1 year ago
@scubajenjen Unfourtunatly, cats are ruthless, and if your cat was bigger than you, It would likely kill you and eat ya.

@scubajenjen Awwww...

wow, her heart was pounding from looking at a picture??
Surely it only affects her when there's an actual cat there... because her neuro dysfunction is associated with actual, live cats rather than a picture of em

Daarisha 3 years ago
Had you watched part 2 you wouldnt have posted your message because they didnt expect the phobia just to go away, cured her. After she had suffered for 39 years, she was shown a picture of a cat only to prove to viewers that her phobia was genuine not to patronise her! As for your comment about being able to say that yourself and you having no experience, you then contradict that by stating YOU have a phobia! I would advise you take in ALL the info before making comment so you dont look silly!
