  • However, the pen trick is good. It worked for me to remove the screw. thanks! Like.

  • For every 2 words there is an "uuh". Also, good job replacing the battery off of the camera. Cause that isn't the entire point of the video, is it? Oh wait. If you're making a tutorial, film it on a desk, get proper lighting, and when working with a small circuit board use a better quality camera. Also, when editing the video, don't export it in HD if the video wasn't recorded in HD. Your HD quality on this vid is about 360p.

  • people need to calm the fuck down because he's just trying to help you out and if you do not like the vid then just STOP FUCKING WATCHING IT. i hate when people bitch

  • @Gino3603 You're bitching by saying that.

  • @Denthedragon yeah say that shit over the internet faggot. i would fuck you up if you were in front of me

  • @Gino3603 Once again, you're also saying shit over the internet by saying that.

  • Thanks a lot! You saved our lives man!

  • UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH

  • i his ehhh voice.

  • fuck you suck at editing and explaining...

  • lol, can't believe the people in the comments, i didn't know this dude, thanks. don't mind the bunch of assholes in the comments, ppl are never satisfied, fuck them (not in a literal way, then you'll go to jail and that shit's bad business)

  • been uh done in uh 1 uh uh uh minute

  • Are you uh fucking kidding me uh uh this uh video could havebb

  • So, uh, were going to, uh, replace the, uh, battery, uh, in the, uh, pokemon, uh cardridge, uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh

  • OH MY GOD TALK FASTER

  • "precision" screwdriver....lol

  • Remember to breathe

  • Have a plan and a script before you make a damn video. "This will probably work best on a table, but since I'm showing you how to do this, I'll just ahead and not do it on a table." Idiot.

  • does this work for R/B/Y as well?

  • its like you're doing heroin !

  • Ok this doesn't have to be ten fucking minutes long, you could do it in a minute.

  • I didn't really think about taking the battery out and just ripped it outta there (metal tabs still in tact) but the solder came out, will this affect anything?

  • my brother got the regular games internal battery out. Then started playing the game for the fuck of it without a battery- and its saving?

  • @tehboxface same with mine.. toatally weird, but awesome.

  • CR2016 Lithium Battery will work??????

  • does doing this allow you to play your old file from years ago, or just to start a new game and save then?

  • but the video did help...

  • heres a tip; ur mom

  • I used an x-acto knife and cut the welds. I also broke down and bought a gamebit to open the cartridges.

When I used elctircal tape I used a 2.5" length and put it under the bottomand wrapped it around. It was a bit snug but I didn't have an issue getting the casing back together.

  • cannot explain my gratitude love u bro holla

  • BTW it worked thank you so much man

  • Hey this works too.

Get a regular sized click pen

make sure its close to size of the screw

get the pen on on the screw

get a hammer and lightly hit the pen until its in

then just rotate it till it's off

thats how i did it ,thumbs so people can see :D

  • I replace the batteries in Pokemon Gold, Silver and Crystal, it worked on all of them. (i used CR2032)

  • Does it keep real time?

I replaced one and the real time function doesn't work.

It will save, and the game is playable, but the phone, and night and day events don't happen. I have to play for 24 hours for a full in game day to pass.

  • I have a BUNG tool if anyone want it I buy it.

  • I have to say. Perfect tutorial. Clearly spoken perfect presentation and ingenius methods :D

You have earned my respect sir. : ]

  • Did this last? Scared of using tape...

  • can you make a video on how to use the Mega Save thing please?o.o" i just got one but i have no idea how to use it and when/how can i save my data?._. please n thanks~

  • Dude, a zillion thanks! I just replaced the battery of my Pokémon Gold cartridge. The idea of the pen screwdriver was awesome! I unsuccessfully tried before with several screwdrivers but with your tutorial the screw came out easily. I hope it lasts another 9 years! :D

  • the whole pen thing is unnecessary all you have to do is use the edge of a small flathead screwdriver..i used one side of my scissors its not screwed on very tight to begin with and it saves time

  • Thank you!

  • do i just use a watch battery?

  • can i buy that mega save cartige from you?

  • I love how I have both the same exact gameboy color and the gamboy advanced. X3

    Wellanyways.

Great video, looks safe enough to me, Imma try it. Thank you~ ^.^

  • can anybody tell me what type battery they use for gba pokemon games ? ty

  • he said and um so many times!

  • I broke off the two metals that hold the battery... Can I fix this? any other method besides soldering?

  • @TheNeckSlap This also happened to me >_>. any way to fix this?

  • If I send you my copy of silver can you do this 4 me please

  • hey can i pay you like 10 bucks to fix my game man

  • @mantengo1 for $10 you can just about buy a new one on ebay man lol

  • does the mega memorie card still work even if the games battery is gone?

  • how much do these batteries cost? i just bought a used pokemon gold and silver and my gold is fine but i think it might die out soon. and my silver doesnt save at all so i need to replace that asap, i need more than one. and what type of battery do i get, and what are the differences between others?? if you can answer this i will send you a smiley thanks in advance..really sad that my silver wasnt working ...frikin used stores are terrible

  • I almost cried when my Gold game stopped working- it was the first game I ever bought with my own money. I'm so glad I can replace the battery... though I gotta say I was getting pretty good at speed runs.

I'm dreading Crystal running out- it shouldn't be long. Does anyone know if it will lose the save if I replace the battery preemptively?

  • @ArcticFoxKit

The battery is what keeps the data intact (the real-time clock calls for constant power) so yes.

My only recommendation is to trade off what you absolutely cannot do without so you can get it back (also via trade) through a new save.

  • can anyone help me? every time i start my pokemon red its all normal but when i go into battle it freezes, when i wanna save it freezes too! what can i do?

  • Thanks alot bro!! bought this game off of ebay and game works and runs perfect!!!! thanxx!!!!!

  • LOL Uses a KNEX box as a surface

  • thanks, very usefull guide

  • Doesn't touching the MB and putting tape around it have a chance of messing up your cartridge?

  • Just replaced my battery for my Crystal version, and everything seems to be working fine. I'm gonna buy another one so I can get my Silver save to start working again. But anyway, thanks this video helped a lot.

  • thank you so much; I fixed my gold version finally. Now I can try to fix my silver and ruby version (the ruby version was counterfeit which is why it ran out of battery early, but I also have a legit copy of it)

  • Tried replacing it...

Now my silver acts like it has no internal battery.

The back part attached to the battery removed itself when I tried getting the battery off of it.

  • You are a goddamn genius my good sir!

  • does this also work for Yellow version?:o

  • Thanks for the vid!

With a lack of a soldering tool, I was worried about messing it up. But the precision screwdriver idea worked.

However instead of tape, I used a tiny bit of blutack to bolster the battery between the cartridge cover - works like a charm now.

  • there's even a easier why, just get a fucken 3.8 security bit :)

  • does this work for pokemon yellow??

  • @Gustavoa1011 This should work for any Gameboy/Gameboy Color game as all those cartridges are very similar. Just be careful not to break the game.

  • @MrJohn11905 k thanks 4 everything

  • Thank you! this is very helpful!! :)

  • So I just got the battery but have a problem. It came with the two metal parts soldered onto it. I took of the two ends where the old battery used to be in my crystal but it still won't save. What do I do?

  • This does work...I did it in less than 1 hour! (That 1 hour also included me going to the store to buy the battery XD)

  • When he said memory card I already got my answer.

  • Force be with you!

  • i think nintendo really ruined gold silver and crystal with these . when my internal batterry ran out that was the same day i got pissed off and stopped playing pokemon..

  • DUDE!!! Thank you so much!! You saved my Gold Version!!

  • are the clips on the battery necessary to keep on? I tried getting them off with a screwdriver and couldn't, and eventually ended up breaking the clips in order to get the battery out. I taped a new battery in, but the game still wouldn't keep any saves afterwards.

  • @joemuns yea the clips are, they feed the battery power to the game, you've fucked your game

  • @NickSabatino I figured the clips were important, but wasn't sure. However, recently i took the clips off the batter y i removed, taped them back in the game with a new battery, and now it works. Thanks for the feedback though.

  • where can I find the mega memory card? It is today yet sold?

  • or you can buy a tri pronged screwdriver for 3 bucks

  • how long do the batterys last? and if the battery goes dead do you lose everything?

  • @FordsRule351 : They are supposed to last at least 5 years, some of mine are still working after 15 years, but on the pokemon games especially gold/silver/crystal, there is a memory + a clock that consume LOTS of power, that why they don't last as long as some older GB save battery.

And yes when the battery dies you lose everything (special case: pokemon ruby/saphir/emerald on gba, the battery is only here for the clock, the game is saved on a permanent flash memory, except for fake ones).

  • what happen if you super glue the battery

  • Just buy the correct gamebit to unscrew your screw properly. coming up with ridiculous make-shift ideas to do it can only cause uncertainty if you will mess something up or just waste your time. The bits are only a few bucks if you look around on the bay or google a bit.

  • Dude, the pen thing is genius, wish i had watched this before i popped the sides with a screwdriver

  • sometimes my gold will save and sometimes it won't does that mean that my battery is still good?

  • @thecrazybanana510

Depends: if the save only lasts about 5-10 minutes, your battery needs replacing.

If you've gotten like halfway done with the game and it erases the save data, your battery is shorting out and needs to be properly secured.

  • umm u can use any battery i used a big ass one i found that will last 10x longer then the shit one they put in the pokemon game. just make sher the battery can fit if not use a wire and stick it out of the game and pput i hole not too big to the top of the game. put tap around the battery and wire. oo any pokemon game will work for it =)

  • I've got a CR3032 battery. Do you think I should use that one, as it's more powerful, or should I buy a CR2025, as it will fit slightly better? :)

  • @TheSkogalundEffect The only types of batteries that I can recommend as I've tried them are the CR2025 and the CR2032. A CR2032 is a bit snug, but I feel it kinda makes it more secure since I've only attached them with tape. I would imagine a CR3032 would be too large to actually fit in there, but I could be wrong.

  • @KMCMATT1 Sorry my bad, I actually meant a CR2032 battery. However, I followed your instructions and fastened the battery with blu-tac and tape, and the save stayed the first time I restarted the game, but now it's gone again. I'll just buy a new one on ebay instead :( Thanks anyway.

  • @KMCMATT1 it works fine with the 3032

  • @KMCMATT1 cant you just use the mega meory card instead of replacing the battery?

  • @KMCMATT1 also can i do this for pokemon red/blue/yellow also?

  • and also how did you get the legs up without messing the legs up it took me almost 2 hours to get the legs off and I was trying to be careful but it still got bent up

  • @MCGoldYoshi Yeah, they are very thin and will get bent up something awful. I just used some pliers to straiten them up again. Just as long as they don't snap off from the PCB, you should be fine.

  • I did the whole screwdriver (to get those "legs" off the battery) but my game still got screwed up :( I don't have the money to get it professionally done and I want to buy a new gold version any advice? I'm desperate at this point

  • are those batteries rare to find like in wallmart of in stores like that

  • @SuperGameboy8 They are not rare at all. You can find them in both the jewelry and electronics section of Walmart.

  • @KMCMATT1 I gotta congratulate bro, ur a fucking genius, the way u made the "screwdriver" is like something u learn from the CIA or something XD i noticed that u didnt showed when u removed the under leg, thats the harder one, but im sure that it didnt took u an hour like it did to me XD

either way thank you for the tutorial, good luck bro'

  • y el martillazo cuando?nada mas eso faltaba

  • I kind of need to make a list on what i need to fix my silver i'm sure i have most of the tools but what kind of battery do you need?

  • @Megaletsplayerman1 Not sure exactly what you mean. I'm guessing that one of the arms broke off the board but is still attached to the battery? Anyway, if this is the case, then the same applies as in the comment above. It's only bad if you don't want to spend extra money or don't know anyone who solders. Since it's broken, you can either just order a new battery with the tabs off the internet and solder it on or you can attach some wires (well, any conductive metal really) to a new battery.

  • this is great : ) I heard you could do this on your own and now I know how. before finding this, Ive gone through 2 silvers and 3 golds and they are all "unplayable"... unfortunately, silver, gold and crystal are notorious for doing this :\ I've had NO problems with my blue or red and they are considerably older lol they dont make pokemon games like they used to ;)

Have you had any instances where you "fixed" them and they still didnt work tho? im afraid of breaking mine :\

  • @KrisOnBass Really the only problem with these games is that the internal battery is dying, which is what controlls the save function. The future games don't do this, as they save on the game system's battery instead of it's own, so this generation of games is really all that has this problem. All he's doing here is taking the battery out, and putting a new one in, so as long as you can do that without messing any other part of the game it should still work.

  • @metalicadude69 that's true. I just dont want to have to buy another one lol i'm definately going to try this tho. : ) and yeah, these gen of games have been the only ones i've had problems with, you're right. I'm gonna try his method of using tape to secure it, since I can't solder and I don't have any friends that can solder either :\

  • dude i never thought of using a pen tip to make a makeshift screwdriver. thanks for the idea!

  • the screw is the hardest part...

  • If you get the tip of the pen to light and put it out immediately, the plastic is just melty enough to make a perfect mold on contact with no pressure, then either let it cool or run some cold water on it.

Also, getting the tabs off with the tweaker was the most annoying thing ever. Any tips on removing the tabs easier? I still have one cartridge to go...

  • Damn, I tried to make my personal screwdriver, but the results... Nothing! I only f*cked up about 7 pens, and became nauseated because of the smell...

  • Wow you looked really nervous. Still, I can't talk. :P

Thanks loads for this video, it will help a lot. :)

  • hahahaha "get parental supervision" i would say if a parental knew what this kid was trying to do it would NOT happen... i do not endorse hidding things from your parents lol

  • @AkemiCaffeine The shortest answer is no, not really. But I do know for a fact that the old InterAct (before it was bought by Madcatz) GameSharks or the Action Replays by Datel for the Gameboy Advance allowed the transfer of game saves to the computer. Not sure about the Madcatz models though to be perfectly honest.

  • @KMCMATT1

hi, i've got a small doubt here:

i own some 3.6 volt batteries, and i'm aware i should use 3v ones, but perhaps those work too, though i'm concerned that perhaps they'll damage my game's circuits.......do u know if they'll work?

  • THANK YOU! Now I get myself a working gold version. My first Pokemon game ever, and a dead battery.

  • nice job but the taping was to much. all i did was use two little pieces of scotch tape to tape the battery and it works fine

  • I HAVE THE SAME GAME BOY COLOR! :D

  • would this work with a gba game?

  • thanks i did this on my pokemon crystal and now i can save with no probloms thanks

  • OMG LIFESAVER ILY OMFG WAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • I have a problem i got working copy of gold and a working gba sp but every time i save it its good and when i turned it off and back on with it still in the gba the save data is still there but when i take it out and insert it back in it erases.

  • Thank you for watch...

  • the pen trick didn't work. at all.

  • I do not know much about GBA, but as I understand, the original cartridge of Pokémon is a save backup in the cartridge. So even if the battery run dry, I can use my save what is written on it. Only I can't do is save the game. The versions Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald have this save backup. Or am I mistaken?

  • @TheBigBossMG4 gold and silver version run on a type of volatile memory, meaning once the battery's dead; that's it. There are ways to mod your cartridge so that they run on non-volatile memory, meaning they save to RAM in the cartridge. to do that you need to replace the SRAM chip with an FRAM chip. it takes some tricky soldering so if you aren't good at soldering, don't mess with it. look for a FM28V020 FRAM chip, and leave the top right pin of the FRAM chip disconnected. google it.

  • @TheBigBossMG4 I wouldn't reccomend doing that FRAM mod unless you're doing it to the mega memory card the guy in the video has. It's very difficult if you're not great at soldering. Personally, I have a device where I can transfer save files from GB, GBC, and GBA cartridges to my computer.

  • @sonofsam22 Understood. But what about Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald? They have this save backup in the cartridge functioning as a memory card?

  • @TheBigBossMG4 Hmmm I'm not sure. It's difficult to find information on the subject.

  • @sonofsam22 really? What is the device called? Sounds more feasible then all of these videos, no offense.

  • @Gungho73 You need Windows 95/98/ME/2000 or XP with a parallel port (a.k.a printer port) or maybe even a parallel to USB converter, and it's called a Gameboy Transferer 2. They're not the easiest things to come by, and they're not always legal.

  • @Gungho73 You need Windows 95/98/ME/2000 or XP with a parallel port (aka printer port) or maybe even a parallel to usb converter. It's called a Gameboy Transferer 2, and they're not the easiest thing to come by these days. Some uses of them are illegal as well, as they can transfer ROMs.

  • screw is impossible to remove

  • @Zenithson05 Obviously not impossible because it was screwed in place.

  • its called pick up the appropriate screw driver at radio shack or any other store

  • thank you!

  • JEEZE U SAY UM TOO MUCH

  • @js101859 I know. Hmm...maybe I should do an abridged edition, but with extra info that is less annoying to watch. :P

  • @js101859 He didn't say the word "um" once.

  • when i was taking the weld off the battery i riped off one of the arms...that fine or not?

  • @purelyRED It depends on where it ripped from. If it's just a bit shorter, but still attached to the board then it should be fine. If it came off of the board, you'll need to re-attach it somehow. If you know someone that can solder, I'd take it to them. If not, you could try your hand at liquid solder (one that is conductive NOT the stuff for plumbing). I'm not sure if it has anything about this, but check the link to see how other people did this. Good luck.

  • Thanks this helped a lot. I didn't wrap it in electrical tape but it still works just fine. Now I can play again!

  • i needed this for pkmn gold to lol!

  • I've done all of this and it's still not saving...maybe I put on too much soldering?

  • @FatherOfGrey try flipping over the battery:o

  • Super glue works really good to hold the battery

  • I've followed your instructions and replaced the battery and the cartridge works again, but it won't keep my saved data! WTF?

  • Thank you very much for this video I recently found my old GBC with Red and Gold and gave them a go but had the same problem with Gold not saving. But after replacing the battery it seems to be ok. Much appreciated, cheers again!

  • I used hot glue to keep it place.

  • about how long do the batteries last?

  • damn!!! great trick whit the pencil.

  • Thank you for the tutorial. I was having a slightly different problem with my saved data (trading cord would delete it when inserted). Regardless, your instructions worked perfectly. Thanks again. :)

  • I tried to do this with a metal nail file, but it slipped and my finger rammed into the peices of metal...I paid for this in blood LOL!

  • mejor cortate las uñas mugriento ! jajaja

  • Does replacing battery also restore the time keeping feature?

  • i did every thing but it still won't work

  • sorry man but I can´t understand the part when you use the pen :S

  • @NinjaTertl Oh wait, never mind. I already added that link...Sorry, was not trying to be smart about it. I though I had not put that in there yet. It has ways to make a cheap spot welder and suggests things like epoxy. If you do try to weld or solder to that new battery, I would just remove the tabs completely to avoid damage to the cartridge.

  • @NinjaTertl Actually, I have a great link with some other techniques for reattaching the battery. I'll put it in the video description for you to check out.

  • I found that Mega Memory Card at a Walmart 6 or so years ago for $5 being discontinued - best investment ever. :)

  • Great video! I just found my pokemon gold the other day and went to play it and my game was gone and it would not hold a save in a new game. I thought it was just broken until somehow I stumbled across this video on google the other day. This is way better than having to replace the game!

  • Actually u do not have to do much with the tape, i did this to my crystal version: 2 pcs of electrical tape goinh crossed from the top of the CR2025 btry to the back, it holds it still(enough) and still leaves space for the cartridge to go closed

  • I broke the tabs.... What do I do? :(

  • @TheDrkspartan Sorry for the late response. The best thing to do would be to re-attach the tab/other conductive metal with solder. Of course, there are some alternative routes you could take. You could place the tab where it goes on the board and hot glue it back on, since it doesn't really have to take any abuse after the cartridge is closed. Or you could give conductive glue a try. I've never used it, but it might work if you attach a wire in place of the metal tab.

  • @KMCMATT1 You could alternatively buy a replacement battery with the tabs already attached. Once again, though, this would require soldering.
