they are essentially the same thing, but mystic valley band does not have mike in it.

conor oberst is in both of them, and he wrote the song. but if you want to get into it, bright eyes wrote it.

Thankyou I'm not stupid, but, well he's not playing with Bright Eyes is he. And he claimed that he wouldn't perform Bright Eyes songs without Mike Mogis, but nevermind. Just to let you know, I'm not completely stupid. I do know that Conor is the singer of Bright Eyes. God.
