I feel genuinely angry that the AFL is bringing in that Great Waste of Space(aka Greater Western Sydney Giants) when they let a traditional old club like Fitzroy die. Absolute disgrace.
it was obvious that fitzroy was going to fold regardless of draft picks or whatever because fitzroy didnt even a home ground and the facilties were shit. Sometimes the afl just cant help
Get over it guys if the Roys didnt merge with brisbane ur history would have dissolved and ud basically would have been almost forgotten..I had hearing old fitzroy supporters bagging out the lions saying "oh ill never support brisbane they stole my club" get fucken over yourselves get wit times ur clubs gone get over it..brisbane do a great job preserving the identidy of fitzroy...
@The18Angus the real fitzroy supporters will never follow brisbane because the name fitzroy has gone.brisbane have already started phasing out the fitzroy lion & the royal blue from their colours. They took away the name FITZROY can't you get it,fitzroy will never be forgotten & not due to the brisbane takeover. The only things brisbane wanted were a few players & the lions mascot because they were called the bears but they forgot a koala is not a bear.
@kadaitcha72 The problem wit u fitzroy supporters is ur so bitter about everyting get over it ur club is gone they aint coming back alrite.move forward u guys are stuck in the past..yes it was wrong wat the afl did to u guys but for fucks sake that was 15 years ago its time to move on..
Shameful that the AFL dissolved Fitzroy, could never support the bris lions, the AFL took away the name Fitzroy & thats what hurt most.Still amuses me how the AFL threw millons to the swans but couldn't keep Fitzroy.Look at the stars we had:Roos,Pert,Osborne,Lynch,Johnson,Broderick & many others. The mighty roys gone but not forgotten.
I recognise this was taken from the DVD "At their best" that was a DVD made to look back at Fitzroy's last season they made the finals in 1986 as well as a brief mention of how the club had to come to a sad end in 1996 when they mearged with Brisbane
does any one remember if there was a later version of this song? i remember hearing another version where the start said "we wear the royal red, blue and gold" but i cant find it any where.
fitzroy had their chance to merge with footscray in the 80s, they should of taken it. "fitzroy bulldogs" would of been the smarter choice. shame really. im a crows fan, the crows and the roys had some great battles back in the early 90s
@83petro perhaps the Crows should merge with Port Power. Port claim they are struggling financially when they have a much larger fan base than Fitzroy had. Give Fitzroy Lions back their license then. Clubs such as Fitzroy, foundation VFL Clubs - built the competition that you South Australians jumped on board and play in now. You obviously do not understand the pride and fight shown by Fitzroy fans in the 80s and 90s to keep their club a club in it's own right.
One of the best of the old club songs, I really miss hearing it on a regular basis, I am of the opinion that Brisbane should play the old song when they come to Melbourne and wear the old jumper, even if it's only 1-2 times a year
I agree. The Lions should play this song twice a year in Melbourne. They can play the Bears song twice a year in Brisbane if they want to, for balance.
@mjgorey nah, they merged, it was natural that their songs would be merged into one song.
I noticed that the Brisbane Lions version of the song includes more La Marsailles inspiration in the rewritten lyrics like "All for one, one for all".
If they did that it kind of deducts from the Brisbane Lions being the Brisbane Lions, an individual club, not a Melbourne team wearing an antique jumper, with a Brisbane logo stuck on the front of them for the QLD supporters.
i'm a richmond supporters and i dont share the same view as that other peanut! it still pisses me off what the afl did to fitzroy who wouldve been a great team in the 90s if they didnt get all their good players pillaged in their last few seasons
@northerly23 I see what your saying but why bother when they had no facilities and no real credibility money wise or whatever. Least with our tigers they have great facilities now and have PASSIONATE supporters
Not funny at all you prick, imagine if your club went through the shit that the old roys did, you should be fucking ashamed of yourself. And I am an Essendon supporter that was only a few years old went Fitzroy went out.
I'm a north supporter and i was only about 7 months old when fitzroy went out, not to mention North winning the premiership on my birthyear. I miss Fitzroy, even if I never saw them play.
i am only 16 and i think footy would be better with fitzroy still they were a proud club with great history. i watch old games of them playing and documentaries, the roys were $6m in debt and owed money to the ATO they really had no choice but to merge.
@Luigi356 so true thats how i feel, i was 3 when they went out i have old games i watch and they make me cry. i miss such a great club with pride, shame how tthey were treated and what happened.
a shit club, look at yours they went out because of debt they were a club with much pride and a rich history, fitzroy were not shit although there playing went downhill with all the pressure of merging the last few years.
Port Adelaide replaced Fitzroy in the AFL. The league should have allowed Fitzroy to merge with North Melbourne.
