Is your database running on your local machine or somewhere else? Regardless, check out your HOSTS file, which should reside under /etc/hosts on Unix/Linux and under c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS on Windows. You should have an entry there for localhost and 127.0.0.1. You should also take a look at the installation log file for more details.
You made it seem so simple. I am running into an error on the configure component screen. Error message from OBI as it attempts to look for open ports
INST-08010: Error in validating the port range for auto port allocation. At least 2 ports should be free within the range 7000-7500 for the Adminserver and Adminserver SSL.
