  • Apparently, its NOT the CCD in MOST cases...its the lens diaphragm. You either have to strip the camera down and gently prise the diaphragm apart, or, do what I did WITHOUT stripping it down ...and give it a good beating around the lens area .....with a joiners pencil or something similar.

Have the camera switched on and 'Record' on. Ignore the blank screen and start beating. It only takes seconds and it should fire up.

Obviously, don't use anything metal of too heavy.

    .

  • @Dopydoby Unless the camera was manufactured between 2002-2004 when hundreds of thousands of epoxy backed Sony CCDs were used by all the manufacturers, which then failed due to moisture ingress!

  • @NevilleStyke

Hi Neville. I bought the camera at Manchester Airport late 2005. It has been a lot of places near the sea and lakes but did'nt any give problems till early last year when it just would'nt fire up in 'Record' (after about a year of not using). Now it's 'fixed' it works fine and a colleague who had a GR-270ek with the same problem has 'fixed' his using this method. I am not saying that CCD's don't fail ...but these 'fixes' are a bit of a co-incidence...are'nt they?

  • @Dopydoby If you want to check out some of the models that were affected see: although the free repair is no longer available for most of these now the 6 year statute of limitations is up.

  • If you want to check out some of the models that were affected do a search for

"Widespread CCD problems in consumer imaging products" and see the imaging-resource website, although the free repair is no longer available for most of these now the 6 year statute of limitations is up.

  • any advice on unscrewing the tiny screws, i Want to repair the mic on my sony vx1000e but cant even get it open.

what sie of screwdriver should i get? the screws are phillps head.

  • I use a set of jewellers flat screwdrivers For all but the toughest to loosen phillips head screws; you can select the right sized driver for the right sized head. Don't forget that you can often loosen tight screws after turning them a little in the tightening direction.
