  • sick set up

  • THANKS im a begginer and question what happens if i dont wax my board

  • @XxXPREDx the board wont slide as fast and wont be very buttery wen it comes to the terrain park and rails

  • is there any way of getting the bubbles out like u said in the beggining will happen if u keep the bindings on

  • why would want to scrape off the wax once its dry?

  • @AWcatcher11 you put on the wax to fill in the gaps and scratches on the bottom of ur board then u scrape all the extra wax that didnt go into ur board.....understand?

  • could you use wd-40

  • That was really helpfull. I had no idea it was easy!

  • i just got a new bored. how often should i wax it?

  • @Heyboyitslexi depends on how often you ride, and how much your board base likes wax, went u start to noticed the wax dryin up and turning a whiteish color thes you know its time for a new waxing

  • Can u wax it with candle wax

  • @mmurf46 NO!!!!!!!!

  • does it matter if the board is waxed from front to end

  • you should scrape it off front to back.

  • @wsterfred thats what he does..

  • if you buy a new board, it shoudl come factory waxed, use that until it wears out.

  • so if you detune your edge and then become a lot better you can always sharpen it up again?

  • @enburst

you detune your edge so that you won't catch your edge whilst doing jibs and rails etc. it isn't an effective edge which means it does not coming in contact with teh snow. yes you can sharpen them agian.

  • very well shown

  • will dgk wax work

  • tnx, just bougt a Nitro Wiig Pro Series and I cant wait to ride it :)

  • Thanks man very helpful just bought my first board, its a k2 darkstar!:D

  • @caramalbear hey dude i know that you posted 8 months ago but I think im gunna pick up a new 2009 from craigslist. did you like it? and what bindings did you use with it?

  • Ok My board is great but after i start carving agressivley or hitting jumps my front binding comes loose any tips for keepin it tight on there?

  • @summitguy800

new bindings. or take it to a shop, if you cant do that just tighten all the screws

  • Sweet vid, thanks! You did but the boots on backward though. They should strap in to the outside of the boot, not the inside. You had left foot right and right foot left.

  • a huge part to this that he skipped is the nylon brushing right after removing the wax and before the buffing. It gives the board texture. go straight up and down for pow days

  • This is the info i needed! just got my first setup and felt a little lost as to how i need to set the bindings. I first set them up to where it felt ok but no idea if that would help me or hinder me. Thanks for taking the time to make this vid

  • good stuff, helpfull vid thx gonzo

  • I would advise not to use a scotch bright pad, it cost more, but buy a combo brush copper/nylon from a ski store, it works better, i use scotch brite to remove all the wax and scratches

  • Could i use sandpaper instead of that gummy stone?

also, would 'Kurb wax' Work just as well? I use it for skating.

  • @guywithaspoon no the kurb wax will most likely not work, snowboarding waxes are specialy made to repel water and glide, there are many chemicles in snowboard wax that are essential that will not be in kurb wax

  • i love how he is breaking it down. its easy to follow.

  • when u buy a board it usally wax

  • it depends on rider it does not matter how u put your bindings on

  • am i the olny one who noticed he put the binding on wrong he put the buckles facing the middle

  • i just buy cold wax in the bottle or whatever you call it

  • @BillyAteSocks how do you wax it with cold wax? can you use cold wax on a brand new board?

  • can you use just any iron for waxing

  • well you can, but you should probably buy a wax iron because if you use a normal one, the wax gets in the holes and ruins it. for clothes ayway

  • thanks

  • what kind of rome board is that?

  • Actually, he mounted the bindings correctly. If you have flow bindings it does not matter what side you mount the bindings on becasue they have adjustments on both sides. Typically people with flow bindings adjust the inside because iit is easier while you are on the board. You just push on the strap and it will adjust accordingly on the left or the right of the binding.

  • You actually should wax a new board, factories only put a light rolled-on coat (ex, the wax doesn't really get into the pores of the ptex). It might be good for one or two runs but if you ride it hard you're gonna have parts of your base burned.

  • a new board usually don't need to be waxed....at the end he put the binding on the wrong side!!!

  • It's not worng! It's about taste, and what U like. I like the way u say. N' not this one. I got more controll with the standard.

  • Comment removed

  • do you have to wax differently with the burton ics system? i thought you would because the part to adjust is always on the board

  • what are you smoking

ics is on the top, and you wax on the bottum

  • i was under the impression that with ics, you couldn't remove the bindings once you put them on in the spring. don't worry, i spent the summer practically living on a snowboarding forum, so i know better now, haha.

  • that Rome board is sexy.

  • so what about the edge that he detuned ? thats all you have to do with a new board, you dont need to tune it back up or nothing ?

  • no, i wouldn't detune too far back though. you should also get a file and detune the entire nose and tail. this will prevent catching an edge while buttering.

  • If I get a board brand new, do I need to wax it again.

  • you should

  • Comment removed

  • not necissarily, if you dont scrape it all or almost all it off, itll be slower

  • what board is that?

  • the company is rome..but i dont know the specific board line..

  • scotchbrite pad to buff

  • What does he use to buff the wax? I couldn't make out what he said.

  • Is a philips screwdriver something else than a normal screwdriver?

  • A philips head screw driver looking down the point will look like a + sign a Flat head screwdriver looking down the point will look a - minus sign. Phillips head screw drivers are extremely common.

  • oh oke thank you ^^

    So i can use a + screwdriver

  • thanks

  • ...So the more you scrape, the faster you go but on the other hand the shorter wax's benefits will last and so you'll have to wax it again sooner. The general rule is to scrape it off almost completely, just put all your force on the scraper and there should be left a very thin layer that you can't take out even if you wanted to. My English isn't so good, I hope this was helpful. (sorry for the double post but there is a character limitation)

  • It might seems that you take it off but it's not like that. The reason to wax the board is that as you iron it, the wax gets into the thousand micro pores that exist on the surface of the bottom. But when you finish waxing, you don't want to have a cover of wax on the bottom of the board cause this slows you down...

  • i am confused why do you put the wax on just to take the wax off?

  • he's taking off the excess wax, The iron melted in a lot of the wax into the pores of the board, The wax left on the top needs to be scraped off or it will just slow you down.

  • do you need a special iron?

  • guys just bring it to ur nearest resort to get your board waxed

  • if you wanna pay 15-20$ everytime you need a wax. if you ride a lot its more economical to wax it yourself.

  • ORALE CARNAL!!!

  • Quality vid mate!

As a beginner thats helped me loads. Thanks!

  • do u need to wax a new board

  • Depends. Some brands sell them prewaxed.

  • yes, they all pretty much come pre-waxed but it's a crappy thin amount of factory wax that's really ment to act as more of a protective layer than a true wax job. It's so thin it wont even last you a couple runs.

  • Does it make a difference if its a sintered or extruded base snowboard?

  • You should still wax it, Sintered bases are better at absorbing wax because of the pore design, and in saying that you wont have to wax as often.

  • Thanks! One last question. I've been looking at tuning kits, do you by chance have any recommendations?

  • I've never bought a kit specifically but something you'll need to tune your board would be a, File, file guide, diamond stone, gummy stone and p-tex sticks, scraper metal or plastic.

    For waxing you'd need an

    iron

    wax "obviously"

scraper metal or plastic, I prefer metal it gets more wax off quicker

scotch brite pads optional, I like to buff out my base when I'm done waxing.

  • dude, tht guy looked like Marcus from gears in the intro

  • why do u need to wax the snowbard?

  • a waxed snowboard runs much more easily through the snow than a non waxed one and the wax protects the base

  • great video. thanks

  • nice vid 5stars

  • dude nice board and awesome video,,,;D

  • if u look down the words arn't backwards

  • how much does a typical waxing set cost?

  • Like 50 to 150 but they come with differnt stuff like some come with irons and stuff

  • how do you know which side is the nose and which side is the tail?

  • If you stand regular, the end closest to your left foot is the nose. The front. But if you stand goofy, then it's gonna be the end closest to your right foot. Still the front...

  • if its a directional board (meaning meant to be ridden one direction) then the front, or nose, will be smaller than the tail. If it is freestyle or park board (twin tip), then the graphics will usually tell you. when you stand it straight up and down the graphics should be right sided up (not upside down) and then the top is your nose and the part touching the ground is tail.

  • Is that iron a household type? & What heat do you set it to? cHEERS.

  • thats what i use. burton didnt come out with theirs until recently i think.

    and hot.

  • hi i just orderd a burton custom snowboard online for 350$ and i bought buront custom bindings to but im wondering if when u buy it they wax it already or do you have to wax it yourself please respond

  • They put wax just a little so the bottom won't dry, I recommend you to wax it yourself.

  • i think

  • why do you scrape the wax off?

  • You don't have to, but the skis or board will slide MUCH better if you do. In addition to scraping, it's important to brush the "structure" of the base too. If you look closely at your base, there are little channels or grooves in the base. This is how the ski or board disperses the water that it is sliding on. Wax melts the snow and allows it to slide. If you don't scrape, the water has nowhere to go.

  • because you dont want a layer of wax on your board, you want to fill in all those unoticable holes.

  • @PYSFsailing What makes a board base is if it's hydrated, or how NOT dry the base is. Bases have pours like your skin, and if the pours have no wax in them, the base dries up and starts to stick and act like your skin does when it's dry. Wax itself is not slippery; what it does is change the properties of the snow into water into a thin film that you base (key word) will slip over. If you want to go very fast, you'll need to wax your base many time and get as wax much off as possible.

  • Weren't the binding ratchets supposed to go near the tip and tail, not near the midpoint?

  • The inserts pull up when the screws are too tight. You do not need to remove your bindings.

  • thanks

  • all that wax that you applied u scraped off because people use wax when they have scraches and gouges on the bottom.... so the wax goes in the scraches and gouges and u just scrape off the excess wax so its smooth.
