DragonBreath I make custom knives and am considering starting to blue my knives. Right now I do a high polish on them (which looks great) but it takes regular maintenance. I would appreciate any advice, or what your opinion is on bluing a knife blade. Durability, ext. Thank you for your time.
How does it affect the old bluing, I tried some other stuff I got at the sporting goods store on the end of a pistol barrel" Holster ware" and had trouble trying to get it to match up between the two it really didn’t work so well.
@riccati2012 - the longer it stays in contact with the metal, the darker it gets. Spot-matching an old bluing job takes time and patience. I recommend using fine steel wool to apply the bluing over the entire part for a more uniform finish.
I beleive I'm convinced but where do you buy this and how much? Dont have any local gun dealers close by. Walmart has the Birhwood Casey Perma Blue but if that can be ordered, I'm interested. Thanks.
@Geraldtoo - you can buy it online from brownells website. I bought the 16oz, and have yet to make a dent in it. So if you are only going to be touching up parts like I am, you can assuredly get away with the 4 or 8oz sizes.
@DragunBreath I am refinishing a old Marlin mod. 29 and the whole rifle is going to need to be reblued (had to buff out alot of scratches and remove alot of rust) Do you think the 4oz bottle would be enough or should I get the 16oz bottle?
@DragunBreath Impressed and would like to try this product. I cannot find it at a local firearms dealer however and while Brownell's sells it reasonably they charge a small fortune to ship due to a hazardous materials surcharge.

@paflyfish - not much you can do about that really. If you are in need of it, I would just pay the shipping. One bottle lasts a long time.
