There might just be a lot of musical discrepancies between the taste of Japanese and Western people, but I genuinely don't like this guy's drumming. He's not that bad, it's just not entertaining and pretty repetitive to me.
@mrtwitz Indeed, but Yoshiki it's NOT A BAD drummer, an average drummer maybe (he has a sloppy foot thechnique) but this is not a drum solo per se, this is just to make a show, nothing more nothing less...
I am a drummer, i know what i'm talking about; yoshiki have a real heavy ass drumlines in xjapan's songs but you can't put yoshiki next to buddy rich or someone of that size just because they had diferent styles and they are from diferent times... think about it...
oh and hes also loved because of how much he has done for japanese music and even american music believe it or not no matter how prejudice people are.
he is really not that good the greatest of all time is no doubt niel peart then the best right now is joey jordison he has the fastest beat per second ratio an he keeps an amazing tune yoshiki is terible u bearily can hear him no good
This is a great drum solo and he's emotional as he was originally a visual kei artist and this was part of the act and he's an awesome drummer and pianist and people who say this sucks need to open there eyes and ears. Yoshiki is awesome
to the dumbasses saying he's too overdramatic, he sucks, and whatever other fuck you may come up with, he has a fucking injusry on his neck and back, so to you dipshits, why dont you try to do what he does even without it. and if you can, go break your neck and try to do what he does.
You do realize you guys are comparing drummers from both different eras and different genres of music right? Whe nthat's done it's not like they're going to be the same technical skill level. I mean my god, it'd be pointless to compare Yoshiki to Danny Carey or Dave Lombardi. The musical styles are waaay too different.

i know you guys probably all like him. but in my opinions hes fucking shit. i just saw him do exactly the same shit at a different venue. what is the deal with the tired thing is that part of an act or some shit? because the dragonforce drummer plays way quicker him for what 7 minute tracks and he doesnt care. its like joey jordison with his little harness spinning bullcrap, yeah he's good, but does he really need to turn around like a gay little fairy going 2mph?
First off, Yoshiki has always had health problems with his muscles and other things. He has been hospitalized before. I agree, the I'm tired act does get lame but got to hand it to him for playing like that, this might have been the last track for the night and he's playing blindfolded. Dragonforce is good, but to me this is great.
I love Yoshiki blindfolded. Love that he's playing blindfolded. (Though actually ... he can see through the blindfold. I'm sure he could. Just like at the Dahlia Tour Final during "White Poem I" ^__^') *still loves it*
are you suzre? XD 'cause I bet he cheated there as well *g* (which is not meant in a negative way at all or anything ^___^' but he COULD see through his blindfold during the dahlia tour final. One can see it at one of the backstage clips XD he's fixing his hair and stuff *gg*)
to all of you.. I am a drummer.. and this guy sucks.. I watch videos of him to see if he still got some good but no.. If you want treu drummers go search for: Thomas Lang, Neil peart, Sheilla E, Tony royster, Jojo mayer, Ronald bruner Jr, Jason McGerr, Steve gadd, Teddy campbell, Stewart Copeland, Steve smith, Terry bozio (personaly.. I hate his music.. but still hes good), Chris Adler, Larry Alberman and of course Buddy rich.. gosh I can continue all day with this so I better stop now!!!!!!!!
I am a drummer too, i like terry bozzio, tony royster jr, akira jimbo, grant collins, carl palmer and another drummers... but Yoshiki is one of my favourite drummers, man... he does not play ostinatos, blues, prog, and another diferent things but i like his moeller, filling skills with bass drum, his musical art, solos, and compositions, and he also can play piano, guitar with good skills too, i think the skills is necessary, but it´s not the only thing to make a good music...
hey fuck head try john bonham instaed of all your "ding ding putt putt" drummers ... and onto another note... youshiki is a good drummer its btches like you trying to change peoples minds that are pissing me off
i think his technical habilities is not the best in drums, but is very good, and very "musical" (some drummers are not musical, play only a lot of "notes" without sense), he is my favourite drummer, not every drummer can play with the mind and the heart, and he is not a drummer only, he is a complete musician, plays piano, guitar, bass, and can master an orchestra, and he is a great composer... and he is a like a Bill Gates of japanes music...
i red he composed and recorded the bass play of thundercross, tears of thunder and legend of eternal thunder and other musics in violet uk´s unfinished projects... i have only the mp3 of these musics... do you know if its true? or if he finished this project?
according to his website, Mandi does all the bass playing for VUK
and when asked in interviews, he says he plays piano, drums, and guitar (and i've only seen him play those 3 instruments)
i know he's been working on VUK for a LONG while and he says he's got hundreds of songs for it.. but we all know how he's such a perfectionist! lol
on his blogs he even says he's been trying to release it but since no one gives him a deadline since it's his own project, he just keeps dragging it out
but we all know how Yoshiki-Sama is such an overachiever (that's an understatement! lol)- i wouldnt be surprised if he was still picking up new instruments!
Actually he has stated that he has some skill at bass. I wish I could still find the page I read that off of. But if you look long enough there is a comment about it.
but then again i wouldnt be surprised- anyone who's that skilled at both piano and drums and can play guitar i dont see why they would have a problem picking up a bass and easily being good at it..
i play piano, guitar, and bass and some drums and i'd say that the more i learn about piano the more it helps me on bass
I love Yoshiki & his drumming but I am not a drummer nor have I watch other videos of drummers and have read lots of criticism of Yoshiki's style and ability so I have no comparison to other drummers. I was trying to not gush over what I absolutely love. So sorry to offend the viewers of this video,I think it is awesome and I wonder how the Hell he can do that, it is amazing and wonderful. I never get tired of watching this video. Geez lighten up folks. That is no reason to call me a bitch.
That perfomance was awesome. maybe not technically correct but awesome anyway. How the heck does he do it for as long and as intensely as he does? It is impressive evenif it is not great drumming. I loved it and he is so darn cute. It is meant to be entertainment not perfection and it is entertaining. I would love to see one of his concerts in person If only X Japan was still around, sigh found him and them too late.
Well duh! of course he can play a lot better than me. I am no drummer. I am in awe of his drumming & his talent. What I meant is that if he isnt the best he is awesome anyway. I love the man & his incredible drumming & music. Tried to not be over the top in my praise but of course stepped on ultra sensitive, rabid fans toes anyway. Talk about skill, many of jazz drummer is way too good from Yoshiki
But I will say that Yoshiki is best drummer ever exist on earth. Why?? It's not about his speed.
But passion, grace and beauty that blend into the classical music atmosphere.

All speed, no rhythmic difficulty, no variety, just spamming the bass drum the whole time. IMO Neil Peart and Virgil Donati are far superior.

Try get Neil Peart or Virgil Donati to do a piano solo as good as his then. Hes a good drummer to say its not his main instrument.
