"Daddy Sang Bass" was written by the guy who wrote "Blue Suede Shoes", arguably the greatest rock and roll song ever written, Carl Perkins. Carl Perkins also wrote "The Ballad of Boot Hill" for Johnny Cash in 1959. Ozzie Osborne and Jimi Hendrix have also recorded Carl Perkins. The Beatles have recorded virtually every song he recorded on Sun Records in the 1950s. From Elvis to Johnny Cash to Jimi Hendrix. "Daddy Sang Bass" was a masterpiece. It was #1 for 6 weeks on the Billboard country chart.
On early TV shows such as Lawrence Welk, some lip syncing was used. You'll notice here there are Mics. so was live. When they we're singing and dancing on stage, usually they lip sinched. Arthur Duncan, the dancer, also was tap synced....They could not mic tap dancing in the early days.
Mama can sing soprano, but by definition she can't sing tenor unless she becomes Daddy. But then, didn't Helen Reddy--accepting her Grammy for I AM WOMAN--say in part, "I thank God because She makes everything possible"?
yes, Helen Reddy's quip considering god as a female was wonderful. I recall it was daring and some dogmatics thought impertinent. But I thought "good on ya, mate!"
ijustvid, from what I can see, Dick Dale is singing live. "The girls" and Kenny and Buddy are very possibly singing to a playback, especially since neither Kenny nor Buddy regularly sang on the show. In order to bring the best quality sound, LW often -- but not always -- had the musicians record the audio before the show (the Lennon Sisters claim they never sang live except once, as I recall). In later years, as mics improved, perhaps to save money too, LW relaxed this policy, I believe.

Does one of the little brothers drop out at 1:50 ish? The sound continues but it looks like he stops singing due to laughter.

Thanks for the info! I wasn't alive when this show was on the air, so I'm a bit unaware as to how the show worked :)
