And apropiatly named one tree hill. I've been up there, And there was a single, Proud oak. And to the left, Is a memorial to the Maori that died in the land wars (and for the Europeans). From the top, you can see the Manukau harbour, Hurakai gulf, all of Auckland pree much.

Guess It's U2's way of saying. "love Aotearoa" :)

I met my first girlfriend on One Tree Hill in Auckland.

The song was dedicated to a New Zealand Moari who befriended U2 when they where still playing pubs in Ireland and became a close friend of the group. All he ever wanted was his Harley shipped where ever they played all over the world. He was struck down and killed in the US while they where recording the Joshua Tree Album, all money from the song has been donated to his family. The band also flew home to New Zealand with his body...PEACE BRO.

In high school (mid 90s), I used to play the Joshua Tree album in a loop for months at a time. I still get chills everytime I listen to this song, and it brings me right back to lying on my bed, staring at the ceiling, with feelings of turmoil and confusion yet youthful (and naive) optimism and a hope for a brighter future for me and the world.

It seems so trite to say that a band has shaped your life, afterall, you don't know them in person. But U2 really did. I will love them forever!

What more can I say, U2 is my favorite band and "The Joshua Tree" is their finest album, PERIOD. With their mastery of lyrics, sound and emotion, even my 8 and 10 year old children love this band!
