  • im watching this cuz im going to a concert tomorrow night and i wanna c if he is good

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooo...go johnny go

  • Very moving video. The old bluesman is a gentleman !

  • My Local radio station 96 WCMF is doing a tribute to him as I write this. I'm gonna download his music on my IPOD right now.

  • @Tom6093

I have tickets to a rare 200 seat intimate venue with Johnny and his band Sept 20-10.

Should be an awesome show !!!

    Cheers, Frazzo.

  • @Frazzo I heard a good new blues tune today . It was Eric Clapton and Derek Trucks together. Damned good guitar work on both their parts. The old Erik is back !!!! Would love to see Johnny in concert.

  • @Tom6093

I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Johnny mentions Derek Trucks as one of the new blues players he likes.

    Cheers, Frazzo

  • i love his tone!

how he get this fantastic tone?

    does anyone knows?

  • @blusismylife Johnny's tone comes from his use of a chorus pedal. Sorry I don't know the settings or anything.

  • @blusismylife Well he uses a Musicman amp and I think I heard he plays with bass off and no reverb.

  • hell he's unreal, still going, Johnny forever!

  • That laser guitar sounds like it has a built in wah wah, giving it a spacy kind of sound. I don't care for it. Love johnny though.

  • Go Man Go Brother JW! Its Better To Burn Out Than To Fade Away ! Ive played your stuff for years and years and Love your Music Man ! Long Live Johnny Winter !

  • he's a master, that's for sure!!

  • A real boost. Come in in here hear Johnny and all is well!

  • I can't believe how he still looks the same as he did in the 70's. He broke his hip so he's not as bouncy anymore but he's still hot as hell!!

  • YES YES YES YES MASTERRRRR

  • Sugar Coated Love-Jerry McCain-Lou Ann Barton does it too

  • Is this a Jimmy Reed song? Anyone?

  • you sure this wasnt 2008 in cali.. it looks just like it, maybe his setup is just like this now, not sure

  • @gtrmaster2000 I can assure you this was at the Camden Opera House in Camden, Maine. I took the video. ;)

  • @Pythor1 well i was there, just saying, Looks IDENTICAL! lol

  • @gtrmaster2000 If it was about the same timeframe, probably he was in the same shape. There isn't much about Johnny that changes.

    Thanks for the reply!

  • this just made my day man. I am a big fan of Johnny Winter's and his brother Edger(keys) too!

    5 stars

    Peace bro

  • What could be more suiting than to see JW as a grandaddy of them all, rocking and rolling until his frail little body gives out. He'll probably die onstage. What a glorious thing that would be to see. Like an old Viking still fighting 'til he's got no more. In the meantime, he's still got the juice. Love You JW!

  • awesome!

  • Unfortunately thats what happens after years of heroin abuse. He is the greatest ever in my books

  • he looks so sick and weak. but jw is still one of the best ever. thanks for sharing.

  • Even worn out Johnny still plays one of the most fantastic blues ever heard.

  • Saw JW at Both Atl. pop festivals (79.80) came home and bought all his albums.Love him. Barry

  • UM I cant find it sry bout that

  • was this at the westbury thaeater on march 29, 2009?

  • I WAS THERE !!! CAN YOU HELP ME FIND THE WHOLE RECORDING?

    thanx

  • @aeiipsilon There was NO further video. It was not allowed due to copyrights. Although the audio was recorded in its entirety.

  • No this was recorded on March 3, 2006....

  • Name of the song is sugar coated love written by Lazy Lester. As always he plays the meanest guitar.

  • Ol' John has lived a hard life, thats why he's sitting.Still kicks it.

  • Very nice. Thanks for the post. Good to see he is still rocking.

Anyone know why he is sitting?

    Thanks again.

  • Johnny broke his hip some years ago and has been sitting ever since. He still has that signature style and beautiful touch that is his only. He has a new manager and is playing in the US and all over Europe.

  • Yep friend of mine, Paul Nelson, is his road manager. Got him off drugs when Johnny was going down hill, and started managing him...good guy.

  • doesn't that guy also play rhythm guitar with winter?

  • its blues n troubles song... i think

i got their dvd and its on

  • does he still tour

  • yes.,. he will play in sweden at swedenrock festival in june this year

  • kommer ruttna på scenen ju

  • saw him on saturday night. fantastic show. He still plays great. No rock and roll any more. All blues.

  • I think this is from House of Blues-Dallas-August 07

  • Even as a frail old man, he's still one of the best blues players out there. You never know what he'll do next. How many blues guys can you say that about?!

  • thank god he stopped drinking!!!

    Still a great musician!

  • lazer custom guitar by Erwin Lazer

  • A STEINBERGER ??!!

  • what is the title of this tune?

  • It's a Lazy Lester song, Sugar Coated Love. It's on Johnny Winter's 'I'm A Bluesman' CD.

  • Sugar coated loving

  • muffin

  • Simply amazing...and superb!!!! Great johnny !Go ahead man!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic! Thanks.

  • I was one of many at The Cheese& Grain Saturday 3rd May To see This Legend, He stands along side The Greats of White Boy Bluses, Peter,Steve,Mayall,Alexs Corner,Rory, who knows!or gives a F#*k what Guitar he plays,

  • Johnny's guitar is an Erlewine Lazer..

  • Mmmmmmmmmmm!!!

  • it never had a headstock. notice the tuning pegs down when an ordinary stop bar or trem wud usuallly be.

  • an they rarely get out of tune....even if they're in the gig bag for weeks...

  • Smacks self on forehead in disbelief

  • dude, that's not actually a serious question, is it ?

    unbelievable...

  • this guy is like my idol, i listen to him all the time

  • cool thats johnny today he likes playin the blues :P

  • cool thats johnny today he likes playin the blues :P

  • saw johnny at 2007 crossroads and he still

has the spirit and heart of the blues and

you can see it being past down to other

greats like derek trucks.we are lucky to

    be seeing him.

  • What is the name of the song he is singing?

  • sugar coated love

  • Saw him on this tour I think. I was concerned for his health, but he still managed to rockthe house and I still enjoyed his blues. :)

  • This man has been a rock ICON for at least 35-40 years. This is a man that played multi tuneings before you kids called it alternetive. To you alt. players , alternetive just means that you dont have to really learn how to play your scales or learn anything else about music. Hey why don't you RAP? Thats music. Right????

  • That's nice. Is your brain half dead? He's sickly. I don't think "half dead" is necessary.

  • a slowed down Johnny Winter is still WAY better than most other players!......these modern shredders for all their bullshit speed and wankry, could never approach Johnny's amazing timing and instant ad-lib phrasing with spot on time keeping!....ya, he ain't what he used to be, but still damn good!

  • I just saw Johnny less than an hour ago in Missoula. Yeah, he's sitting on a chair and showing his age. At first my wife and I were hoping it wouldn't just be sad... far from it. the man gave 110% and just tore it up. By the time he did the last number I was wishing he would play for nother hour. He is a legend and a master. I saw Bob Dylan last year, and I wish Bob had put 1/10 of the heart and soul that Johnny did. Bob just kinda phoned it in, Johnny gave it all.

  • Thanks so much for the great review. The man amazes me too, he just keeps givin' it all he's got. Just an incredible guitarist and such a pleasant man. Glad you got to see him.

  • I agree with you, Johnny Winter gave me so much music joy, that man can never get bad. Wish we could see him here in Holland.

  • BOOM shockalaka

  • rats. I wish I could get to the California shows.Wayne Junes gone now. doing his voiceovers. he was a hell of a drummer. buddy.

  • oh my goodness! he looks like they dug him up for this one...

  • long live to you johnny!!!!!!You are simply superb, always shaking yours hearts and souls...!!!!

  • Long live to you johhny!!!!!!

  • This is almost 40 years after his heyday and he still swings like a motherf&$#@r. Not as fast and furious as he used to be in his smack era, but his phrasing and rhythm are as good as ever. Johnny Winter is one of the few, authentic, true GREATS, black or white. Long live Sweet Papa.

  • amen, steetcam

  • GENIAL

  • can anyone tell me who wrote this song?

  • Freddy Fender wrote the lyrics from what I've heard so...

  • Layzy Lester?

  • Some sweet pickin there.

  • this vid reminds me of last march when i saw him in manchester he was great so glad hes coming back to england this march see you in holmfirth johnny

  • Sugar-coated love

  • il fatto che si chiami INTER ahah WINTER eheheh nn e' da poco............

  • I saw Johnny many years ago from center stage seats. I played in a high-end rock band of which one of our openning songs was "Jumpin'Jack Flash" Johnnies version of cours. I played lead guitar.

On this particular video, I can't quite make out what he says the title of the song is. Can anyone post back with this video songs title?

    Thank You.

  • Sugar Coated Love.

  • I just saw Johnny tonight here at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale. He did this song and it was better to see it in person then on here. But he doesn't have much of a growl in his voice anymore. Hes old. What can you say right? But I'm glad I saw him.

  • was it a good show there, i rember that place is tiny

  • Yes it was a good show. I got a whole audio recording of it.

The place is tiny. It was jam packed with smokers and boozers. But Johnny was great.

  • was it a good show there, i rember that place is tiny

  • i wonder how many guitarists have cut their chops by listening to and jamming along with johnny,..........hearing him either makes me wanna start playing along or eat some ribs and drink a beer,........hey nicolas cage...........he is the national treasure.........

  • I saw him some months ago, and he was really great!... The bassist went on my nerves though, he did these silly dances and i HATE his hat haha. Winter is such a legend! Lucky to have seen him! Abit fun to be the only one that's younger than 40 in the crowd :D, I'm 14

  • ha, im 14 and im seeing him December 15, a couple days. so fuckin psyched man, i love this guy as a guitar player, my second favorite guiatrist that I take up after...first being, and alway will be, John Anthony Frusciante

  • Saw Johnny & Edgar at Bath Blues Festival 1970 ... just great. His guitar has a very distinctive 'voice' ... like Clapton, Green, Vaughn, BB King, etc. you could pick him out of the crowd no problem.

  • when it comes to blues , he is da real deal.Clapton dont have blues in his blood like this guy! GO JOHNNY GO!

  • whats right!

    Remember Woodstok'1969!

GO Mr.WINTER GO! Grand THANKS to Yoo!

  • ive seen johnny play back in the late 70s four times he is one of the greatest and really never got what he deserves what a bluesman

  • I can say just one thing to you johnny:thank for all...and go ahead!!!!!!!! you are amazing!!!!!!!!

  • how does he tune that thing??

  • awesome

  • Wow, man!! Considering all the crap this cat's been through, he sure hasn't lost anything. His playing is as graceful and mature as ever; by far one of the most underated, influential and inspiring guitarists on the planet. Living proof that you're NEVER too old to rock n roll! THANKS!!

  • tres bien...toujours aussi bonne ta musique johnny....excellent!

  • He is fantastic. The best.

  • I love that Johnny is well and rockin!

  • JOHNNY WINTER I A REAL REAL BLUESMAN.

  • no comment big up to johnny winter he's amazin

  • Johnny is GOD~~~

  • I could never understand the Clapton thing - when faced with JW - how could anyone else be GOD??

  • seconded

  • thirded

  • perfect winter tone.....burrrrrrrr! ! !

  • Winter is not good, is not better, is not great...he is PERFECT. He is the blues-rock guitar for ever!!!

  • wow hes amazing!!! compared to winter, clapton is geettin old...euh isnt winter older?

  • Review-Part 1 I saw him last night here in houston oct 12, 07 at the Meridian. When he took the stage I thought of the history of blues guitar and what this man has contributed to it since the era of Woodstock. How learning guitar we had listened to his records, and now in front of me less than 6 ft away, the Legendary Johnny Winter. Physically, he is in frail health and had to be helped on stage. ... Continued

  • I dont think he can even see having open his eyes at all except for once to look at the neck on the guitar in this video. Even then, this man is still capable of some very intricate blues solos (blindfolded). The mark of a Master. He gave the concert sitting down exactly as in this video. The Amp he played out of was a Music Man HD-410. His Axe is a Earlewine Lazer made my Marc Earlewine of Austin that he used with what sounded ss Flange/Chorus and Delay effects. ... Continued

  • His tone was very down home blues. My critique on the tone of the amp was really overdriven almost too muddy at times, but yet it complemented the style of playing. As he played through the evening he really warmed up with some more great blues picking techniques. It really made me wonder about his knowledge and inventory of blues guitar mastery of this woodstock generation og guitar players.

  • While he didnt play fast, the fills he uses and the timing of them is still very effortless and natural to him. ... superb. What really blew me away were the encores at the end. There is little doubt there will ever be anyone who could play a slide guitar the way he does. Leaves Clapton, Gibbons, and Betts on dust row for sure. You could tell he had something to prove when at the end he got up and changed guitars to his Firebird and put the slide on his finger. ... Continued

  • He looks completely burned-out, can't even stand up

  • He has to sit because, in 2000, his manager kept him so drugged, he fell down the stairs and broke his hip, so he can't stand for long periods of time.

  • Why does his manager keep him drugged?

  • I can't remember the whole story. I'll look it up and get back to you.

  • old, fuck hell no he`s getting better and better allthe thetime man.i was lucky to see him playing in finland this summer and it was great, like allways...

  • What a goofy looking guitar

  • hes old..i didnt know that..ist song Messin with the kid hes or Acdc..acdc rocks..ofcourse johnny rocks too

  • I saw Johnny in Columbus Ohio in the 90s. I never liked him till I saw him live. I was blown a way.

  • Ya man! First heard Johnny in the early 70's.

Nothing like him.Check out Toronto's best unknown guitman in a band called The Fullertons on youtube.

  • This is just repetitious Rock & roll twelve barzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Wish there live footage of JW playing 'It's my Own Fault' live was posted. Now that's playing qwith feel.

  • Johnny should have his hand print in d hall of fame a ledgend and a saint of the guitar world...

  • i hate those headless guitars

  • They stay in tune longer. Look weird i agree.

  • Yeah, I agree. Read an Interview of Johnny, telling he'd like them cause they'd be sounding like trash buckets with strings on. In the next issue of the magazine the factory protested kind of this: "We only make high class instruments..." Funny stuff, he?

  • Great "beatiful" johnny!! You are a simply "guitar god" Go johnny...go!!!!

  • I just seen johnny here in dallas at the house of blues 8-2-2007

he did'nt talk much, but he was sharp and did'nt miss a note, as

a guitar player for 30 years I would have noticed!

I love Johnny!! thanks for doing the Dallas show, my daughter and I

    enjoyed it!!

  • The master !

  • i saw this show @ camden opera house in 2006 he was looking a little frail but still fuckin rocked

    thought my ears were bleeding

  • Just seen Johnny Winter yesterday for the first time after 19 years - in Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, Ca. Great performance, as always ! However, Johnny is visibly frail and had to be lead to his chair on stage. Hope he still has lots to give !!

    Go Johnny, Go !!

  • Your lucky.. the "Belly Up" is one of the best places to see somebody.. also the "Forth & B" !

Johnny is getting old though, hurry & see him people!

  • Man, that's some smooooooth playing! Johnny is still the BEST!!!

  • Hey man...you are so right! I've seen Johnny 6 times and he simply is the "Best". Every time after the shows I asked myself..."How the hell can someone be so f...ing good"?

  • Saw Johnny and Edgar at Lakeland Civic Center in 1976. At the end of the show Edgar got mad at Johnny because he would not leave the stage with him and the rest of the band. He just kept on playing and smiling. Great memory!

  • Sugar Coated Lovin' by the Fabulous Thunderbirds done raw! Glad to see he is still amongst us!
