Dulaman means seaweed, is about two seaweed collectors, several explanations, one is on wikipedia. Not unusual for folk songs to have different musical settings. if you are interested in learning irish, there are classes in many parts of US. search the web, or checl ccenorthamerica.ord, or daltai.com
I got a translation from google translate. If anybody cares to put it right I'll leave it here, cause I have NO idea what the song is about so I dunno how to correct them sentences XD
The first time I heard this song was with Celtic Women, and I have never heard this version before. Because I'm so used to Meav singing it differently, I like this better because it's so new to me.
I have always absolutely LOVED Altan!! My dad was the one who introduced me to Celtic music from the time I was about 7 years old...Altan and Riverdance were my first exposures to it. Now I am almost 21 and I am still hooked! Celtic music will forever be my favorite :-)
This is one of those songs that just makes me proud to be of Irish/Scottish decsent. Best of both worlds. Irish Mocksey(probably misspelled, sorry) and the Scottish love of drinking.....Both can be bad in the wrong situation. Trust me. haha
This is also an irish drinking song. They create a coctail type drink and pour it into small glasses or one large glass for each person, and you take a "shot" everytime she says Dulaman, me and my husband have played this game *^.^* She says Dulaman 35 times in this song...... i got to the 21st shot and just couldnt go anymore haha... was too fast XD But so fun, and this song is BEAUTIFUL.
this song is real cool... i love it.. i have no celtic origin or even white european at that matter.. but this gaelic language stirrs something up deep inside me.. like makes me wanna dance.. :)
DAMN I LOVE THIS SONG.. AND IM NOT IRISH OR EVEN EUROPEAN... :) GOOD STUFF.. but the celtic culture and times appeal to me!! im black and native american. but if i was european id be irish...
@phillinrifle hehe I'm not white either, I'm of indian origin, and the traditional hymms in our language sounds surprisngly similar to this, its pretty cool.=D
@spurgeonm1 Ta an bhan should be a woman and Ta na Ma'na (not sure about where to put the thing and please forgive my butchery of spelling) should be women. However I've only been speakign the basics for about 8-10 months becuase I'm lazy so any advice would be welcomed. Still Rosetta Stone is well worth the money. In a contextually hilarious but literaly incorrect statement, Ta na calini ag ol ouisca beatha! ROFL (please ignore spelling and grammer)
I just learned some Gaelic on the web tonight and it kinda helped me translate some of the lyrics...omg!!! I didn't know who sung this song but I found it a few years ago and I loved me...then i lost it!!! I still love it!!!
My nana sang this song when she cooked.

A gentle daughter, so come the wooing men
Gentle mother, put the wheels in motion I
From the yellow cliff, Irish seaweed
Seaweed from the ocean, is the best in Ireland
A double black legs on the seaweed
There are two blunt ears on the Irish seawee
Go to Dore with the Irish seaweed

Since the cliff, seaweed Seaweed
'S'S story she told me, her head was combed
What the country gave you? says the Irish seaweed
At courting with your daughter, "says the stately
