I love the spot where you're just loosely comping G dominant intervals and three note chords all over the neck. It isn't as easy to voice-lead that way through jazz progressions, but it sounds incredible when you do. Having a solid bass player frees you up a lot if you have some experience.
what i basically want to learn is how to link chords together and why they sound good together, and be able to play scales over chords progressions in the right key. can somebody tell me what the best route to go about this is ?
What i basically want to learn, is how to link chords together and know why they sound good together, and be able to play scales over chords progressions in the right key and know why some scales and notes sound better than others. can somebody tell me what the best route to go about this is ?
while playing chords like F and B in the first 4 frets i always have problems forming the bar across the first fret with my index finger....could someone please help me out??
Marty touches on this over and over, but the main idea is that the basic open string chords, like E just move up the fretboard. You usually have to bring the nut along with you in the form of your first finger. Think about it. If you can move an open string G chord up you can do anything. You also don't have to voice all six strings every time.
Dude you rock - your videos are sooo helpful and have really helped me to excel. Not only can I just play tabs off the internet - I can make up my own little melodies, Keep on rocking .... ad
tip the 12 fret is the next octave of all the open strings so standard tuning EADGBE so the 6th string is E and the 12th fret is E just higher octave. Then you gotta learn the whole and half steps that make up a major and minor and you can work on it. E to F is a natural half step stuff like that if you take it in steps its prity easy to get the basics.
im 13, just started playin the electric guitar and your lessons is really helpful, i mean REALLY helpful. i live in finland so im not so good at nglish yet, but i can understand every word you say. more than the half of what i can play on the guitar, i have learned from you. you rock. 5/5
nice video Marty! Helps clear up some of the mystery! Can you offer any tips to strenghen my hand for playing bar chords? My thumb and palm starts to hurt and tire pretty fast when doing bars third fret and higher!
Fantastic lesson. You saved me hours of reading and trying to learn this on my own. So many lightbulbs in my head just went off througout the video! thx a mill..
what is a higher tuning choice i could make ive tried drop d drop c and double drop d and i just dont like how low they are is there a choice like a higher note to play like a drop b or something?
1. this was a great lesson. Even if you didnt dig it, if you dont know this stuff BOOKMARK or save this vid. You WILL come back to it one day and it will help tremendously.
2. Ive been guitaring for a fairly short time and I know and practice all this stuff!! I went my first year touching on theory, but getting frustrated. Then finally I buckled down in year two and started learning. My playing is much better now!
I got a kick out of this because I gave a similar "lesson" to my friend that got me into guitar. She's a much better "player" than I am, but I'm a nerd and got into music theory.. so it was cool that I was able to give something back.
Thanks a great lesson. You should probably mention that an "ordinary" 7 chord actually has a flat 7. This is something I misunderstood for ages and wish someone had told me much earlier. It may be obvious to lots of people but it was not to me.
great video! Thanks for making it clear for everyone!

@aniaquarian
It happens cuz u need a large force to press the strings near the nut
the nut provides resistance
by playing those chords a lot WITH THE SIDE OF THE FINGER you can manage them
and ur finger will be tough from the side just like what happens to the tips of finger
just practice
IRAQIguitarLOVA1 1 year ago
@aniaquarian i had the same problem you just gotta keep trying eventually it will feel easy.

you probably can use a capo....
but tuning it higher is not possible because if you did it qould only cause your strings to crack.
