  • great video! Thanks for making it clear for everyone!

  • 21 people cant grow mustaches :0

  • so when some one says play a g chord u can play which ever u want...

  • Marty were born to do what you do!!! many thanx>>>And I will be buying your DVDs.. thank you!!

  • god dam it! i have so much more to learn :( lol

  • I love the spot where you're just loosely comping G dominant intervals and three note chords all over the neck. It isn't as easy to voice-lead that way through jazz progressions, but it sounds incredible when you do. Having a solid bass player frees you up a lot if you have some experience.

  • iphone ring tone ?

  • Marty, you make it so fun to learn. You have a great spirit, and i think you are the best guitar teacher on youtube. THANK YOU BROTHER!

  • o i see man you just broke it down

  • aaa! i get it! ..ish. you're a great teacher

  • Great lesson!!

  • V.Helpful.

  • Darn man you didnt say your so exited to be here LOL

    Love your lessons brother thanx.

  • while playing chords like F and B in the first 4 frets i always have problems forming the bar across the first fret with my index finger....could someone please help me out??

  • @aniaquarian

It happens cuz u need a large force to press the strings near the nut

    the nut provides resistance

by playing those chords a lot WITH THE SIDE OF THE FINGER you can manage them

and ur finger will be tough from the side just like what happens to the tips of finger

    just practice

  • @aniaquarian i had the same problem you just gotta keep trying eventually it will feel easy.

  • thanks Marty ! well described :) 5 stars bud!

  • lol

    2:27

  • Marty touches on this over and over, but the main idea is that the basic open string chords, like E just move up the fretboard. You usually have to bring the nut along with you in the form of your first finger. Think about it. If you can move an open string G chord up you can do anything. You also don't have to voice all six strings every time.

  • Thanks a bunch Marty! I totally got that! If only I had known this concept a few months ago when i was first learning bar chords lol. 5\5

  • pause at 2:52 lol btw good vid too confusin 4 me tho lol

  • Dude you rock - your videos are sooo helpful and have really helped me to excel. Not only can I just play tabs off the internet - I can make up my own little melodies, Keep on rocking .... ad

  • You are an awesome teacher! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • tip the 12 fret is the next octave of all the open strings so standard tuning EADGBE so the 6th string is E and the 12th fret is E just higher octave. Then you gotta learn the whole and half steps that make up a major and minor and you can work on it. E to F is a natural half step stuff like that if you take it in steps its prity easy to get the basics.

  • I didn't really get any of that..

  • I'm with you...I got lost :/

  • im 13, just started playin the electric guitar and your lessons is really helpful, i mean REALLY helpful. i live in finland so im not so good at nglish yet, but i can understand every word you say. more than the half of what i can play on the guitar, i have learned from you. you rock. 5/5

  • Love the facial expressions. It's almost like Marty doesn't know the camera is there. Marty shows how versatile the guitar is.

  • gigs frogs lol

  • nice video Marty! Helps clear up some of the mystery! Can you offer any tips to strenghen my hand for playing bar chords? My thumb and palm starts to hurt and tire pretty fast when doing bars third fret and higher!

  • iPhone getting a text at 4:11 :P Really helpful lesson.

  • Marty u are awesome

  • Thanks Marty, that has helped fill in a lot of blanks. Keep up the great lessons :-)

  • Fantastic lesson. You saved me hours of reading and trying to learn this on my own. So many lightbulbs in my head just went off througout the video! thx a mill..

  • what is a higher tuning choice i could make ive tried drop d drop c and double drop d and i just dont like how low they are is there a choice like a higher note to play like a drop b or something?

  • you probably can use a capo....

but tuning it higher is not possible because if you did it qould only cause your strings to crack.

  • I actually understood this,I've tried the books but it never sinks in. This was very usefull.THANKS!!!!!!

  • wow. this is a lesson.

  • Im smiling cause:

    1. this was a great lesson. Even if you didnt dig it, if you dont know this stuff BOOKMARK or save this vid. You WILL come back to it one day and it will help tremendously.

    2. Ive been guitaring for a fairly short time and I know and practice all this stuff!! I went my first year touching on theory, but getting frustrated. Then finally I buckled down in year two and started learning. My playing is much better now!

    THANKS MARTY!!

  • Marty was born to both play and teach guitar!

Best teacher on Youtube. Great video man!

  • marty looks high like myself...

  • I prefer your theory lessons over your song lessons! Keep em' coming!

  • I ve so much to learn but thanks for making it 'real'.

I can get this....and use it!!!

  • the art of teaching theory is to show you how to apply the theory to every day playing. marty doe sthis

  • Marty never disappoints! Great lesson.

  • I got a kick out of this because I gave a similar "lesson" to my friend that got me into guitar. She's a much better "player" than I am, but I'm a nerd and got into music theory.. so it was cool that I was able to give something back.

  • hey marty thx for the lesson!

  • Would like some more on these concepts.. without the knowledge of the basics.. people (including myself) will stuggle with being a better guitarist.

  • there's a pretty meaty intro to music theory on ultimate-guitar lessons

  • great vid mate!

  • Thanks a great lesson. You should probably mention that an "ordinary" 7 chord actually has a flat 7. This is something I misunderstood for ages and wish someone had told me much earlier. It may be obvious to lots of people but it was not to me.

  • This was such a good lesson I wanted to do things to it that's too nasty for YouTube. Kind of.

  • Great! keep it up

  • Best lesson so far! thank you!

  • hes more then just a pretty face!!!!

  • complex chords please. good stuff.

  • nice guitar :D

  • HEY I WASN"T DONE LEARNING! Come on man, put up the second part. Good stuff though really!

  • wheres part 2 martaaay

  • Sometimes you go really fast try and slow it down a good bit take your time.

  • ur the best! only utube videos that are actually usefull

  • What?

  • thank you so much!!
