BURNING MAN 2011

Burning Man 2011 was a pivotal and transformative event in my life. I'd never been before, so didn't know exactly what to expect. It was, true to this year's theme, a Rite of Passage for me. It transcends, however, all of my considerable efforts to define it in traditional terms. It is equal parts adult amusement park, carnival, and spiritual pilgrimage. The Temple Burn was my favorite part, and yet it was ALL magnificent and meaningful... See? I keep stumbling over words and words and words...

@elliotsilver Although it took a great amount of time and money, it is soo worth the entire week of self awareness, complete freedom, and amazing inspiration from your fellow peers! You will never find another place where humans are completely free to express themselves without boundaries. It is a laboratory for human creativity. Without the "man" to control us, there is chaos and anarchy... and it is beautiful.

@elliotsilver Sometimes people need to go out and just have some happiness... Burning Man is not just about self-indulgence. It is an experience of the human spirit and each person finds what they are seeking at Burning Man. There is a lot of good done with this community.. a lot of art is created, a lot of the wood and other products left over from it are donated to charities or used to build structures at communites near Burning Man, such as the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation.

@MrGottsacker Dude, not even! The burning of the man is sort of the tradition of the event but really, you think this is why people go? On a scale of 1-10, the burning of the man is like a 3. Hell, the Flaming Lotus display was 3 times better than the man burning. But really, it's the week full of absolute insanity with people from all around the world that has made me go 10 years in a row. And $300? Crap I've spent that on a dull night on the town in Reno.

@elliotsilver Leaning more toward being conservative in the political sense, 10 years ago I used to make fun of Burning Man (having never been). I spouted off my opinion like I had actually be there and basically calling it a hippie fest. Then in 2002 I received a free ticket. I went and pretty much ate my words. Sure there were some hippies, but there were also white collared CEO's. Basically the whole spectrum. There is no way to base an accurate opinion without going. PERIOD!

Oh man, it's hard to get it all! There were tons of explosions up top that were out of the scene in this vid. It's hard to get the scope of how amazingly huge this show was. The heat and blast waves from the explosions starting at 9 minutes could be felt all the way out at the art cars. %)
