Bette during that time period was extremely rigid and un-yielding. But by the time season 6 rolled around, she had become much less aggressive and more malleable....to the point where I could see her being pregnant. Tina didn't see that in her.....whether that's her fault or not can be debated either way.

However, there is speculation as to whether Tina's earring accidently fell out (again) and Bette found it or if Tina purposely left it there. I chose to believe that Tina left it for Bette to find because if you watch the scene, you can tell that Tina was totally smitten by Bette. Hope this answers your questions!
