  • and is it not a remark about "Nissen huts" (their living conditions in Germany) rather than being about the NissAn factory at Washington?

  • why are all of universal media groups vidoes really quiet. it really annoys me

  • im sure there was a line about the nissan?? is that right, if so haha thats in sunderland

and why does he keep mentioning the germans?

  • It's about Auf Weidersehen pet the geordies are the 3 that travelled to germany as brickies the lyics emphasise what happens in the program. jimmy nail and tim healy can also be heard saying why aye man

  • yeah ive seen auf weidersehen pet before

however i didnt know this song was about it

  • It was written for 3rd series closing credits which is why in some of the episodes Oz encourages Wyman to listen to Dire Straits as a gesture back to Mark Knopfler.

  • Nissan is in Washington.

  • and washington is in sunderland

  • @timowen6 Washington is in Tyne & Wear, if it was Sunderland then it would be called Sunderland.

  • @timowen6 It's like saying Whitburn is in South Shields

  • yer there is a line about nissan i just checked

  • @mikewake13 Nissen hut was what they lived in in Dusseldorf

  • Although AufPet played up the Geordie aspect bigstyle (as well as the regional characteristics of all the other characters) they were never 'anti-Sunderland' in the way you might expect. In one earlyish episode a couple of the geordie lads went to support Sunderland when they played Liege at footy.

Oz got pissed & woke up back in England when he was due at work in Germany that morning. :oD

  • splendida!

  • he was born in scotland but moved to gosforth (Where I live) when he was 8 but he sees himself as more geordie than scottish

  • cool Im a geordie and I love Auf wiedersehen pet

  • there was an xfactor audtion where you heard cheryl cole say why aye man. im trying to find that sound bite so that i can mix it in to this song lol.

  • i dont think mk is scottish, i think he is originally from the northeast

  • AUF WIEDERSEHEN PET !!!!!!!

  • allways be the best scottish musician of all time

  • He's effortlessly brilliant.

  • Awesome!!!

  • this is class and I did think of AWP, basically probably about that great series in the 80s

Some great lines : British built German Made. and of course German beer Chemical Free !!! bloody great!!! Why Aye Man and as I would say, Aye right man. being a Scot!!!

  • tim healy and jimmy nail are in the background saying 'why aye man'

  • Haha i loved Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Mark Knopfler is quality, as you all already know lol

  • German beer is chemical-free

    Germany's alreet with me ;-)

  • You Rock !!! Why aye man

  • There was, apparently, a show called "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet" -- and the people who were in it sing backup vocals on this. Could an actual geordie (sp?) or anyone from the UK confirm this? -- and what was the show about? Ta. ;)

  • Auf Wiedersehen pet was a programme about builders who, like the lyrics of this song suggest, had to leave the United Kingdom for economic reasons. They were not exclusively from the Tyneside, however Tim Healey (Dennis), Kevin Whateley (Neville) and Jimmy Nail (Oz) were Geordies. The series was revived in early 2000s successfully but ended when Pat Roach died.

  • aufwiedersehen pet fuckin rocked!!!! :D

  • confirmed

  • I'm a Geordie and can tell you that your right. They were British builders who couldnt find work in the UK and so 3 geordie bricklayers went to dusseldorf in germany for work, there, they met a number of other UK builders of different trades who formed the basis for the show.

  • This video is now "unavailable in the UK for copyright reasons"....

  • intyegrity

  • i was born in scotland but mved to northumberland for 3 years with work the friendliest people i have ever had the privilage of being with gan canny bonny lad

  • We got "were" tools is dialect for "we got our tools"..."why aye man" is kinda "sure" or "genau" or "es geht"... "maggie" is a reference to prime-minister Margaret Thatcher who set out to destroy the British Ship Yards and Coal Mines. In the process she made the British blue collar poor. A really bad time for the ordinary man in the UK.

  • we got 'wor' tools, not 'were'. Wor = our.

  • excellent information to share, thank you

  • This really is a hair raiser... only the son of refugee could write this... a hoot...

  • Ah, didn't really pay attention to how long it's been uploaded. I was already afraid mark knopfler's reputation died which would be a shame for the world :')

  • Why aye man..how ya doin bonny lad? Great song.

  • this is great why aye man and am a geordie too love it man

  • Knopfer is genious.

  • wasnt this song made for the tv series aufweirdshen pet? xx

  • génial !!!

  • hahahahahahhaahah this is brilliant!! lots of laughs!!

  • ;p super

  • I wonder how much of Mr. Knopfler's lyrics (ref. Twisting by the Pool, Tunnel of Love, Portobello Belle, etc.) are lost on your average Yank / Aussie / branflake eating and shandy drinking Southern jessie b*st*rds!?! The man is a songwriting genius. And a pretty mean plank-slapper too!

  • Its so melodic !! Awesome !

  • musical genious. love this man

  • strange it only has 200 views!

  • It's only just been uploaded....

  • It only had 200 views because it was added yesterday, lmao

  • Ha. I've not heard this song in ages.

  • Long live Geordie Land. And Mark Knopfler of course =)
