A literal eternal hell fire is not found in scripture. Jesus uses metaphors to describe hell. How much more is the book of Revelation? The book is written in code and symbols. To take things literal in this book is totally dubious. Also, the Eastern Orthodox church has never preached such a doctrine as eternal torment. They go right back to apostolic times. So what gives Tim the right to say that churches must believe in this doctrine?

Furthermore, he uses Matthew 18:9 in the ESV which speaks of "hell of fire". Actually the word translated hell here is Gehenna. Gehenna was a literal rubbish dump in Jesus' time where waste would be burned. This is clearly a metaphor not a concrete reality! And Tim never ever makes the case as to why hell is necessary - per the title of the sermon. I'd just leave you with this thought: anything that contradicts God's mercy and love ought to be treated with suspicion.

This is how I understand Hell to be a necessary place. Necessity is the mother of inventions. If there was no Evil there would be no Hell. Hell brings balance in the submission of Evil to God's powerful and supreme order of Goodness and Light. Hell is an expression of God's perfect Justice. Justice is an attribute of God's goodness. If God didn't prepare Hell God's goodness would be incomplete because it would make him unjust. It was an act of Justice and Goodness that God created Hell.

A literal eternal hell fire is not found in scripture. Jesus uses metaphors to describe hell. How much more is the book of Revelation? The book is written in code and symbols. To take things literal in this book is totally dubious. Also, the Eastern Orthodox church has never preached such a doctrine as eternal torment. They go right back to apostolic times. So what gives Tim the right to say that churches must believe in this doctrine?

Furthermore, he uses Matthew 18:9 in the ESV which speaks of "hell of fire". Actually the word translated hell here is Gehenna. Gehenna was a literal rubbish dump in Jesus' time where waste would be burned. This is clearly a metaphor not a concrete reality! And Tim never ever makes the case as to why hell is necessary - per the title of the sermon. I'd just leave you with this thought: anything that contradicts God's mercy and love ought to be treated with suspicion.

This is how I understand Hell to be a necessary place. Necessity is the mother of inventions. If there was no Evil there would be no Hell. Hell brings balance in the submission of Evil to God's powerful and supreme order of Goodness and Light. Hell is an expression of God's perfect Justice. Justice is an attribute of God's goodness. If God didn't prepare Hell God's goodness would be incomplete because it would make him unjust. It was an act of Justice and Goodness that God created Hell.

My dissertation goes hand in hand with the theme and title of this video because I tried to in my contribution to further explain why Hell is a necessity. Prisons are a necessity in our society because it protects the law abiding citizens from the other dangerous criminals who refuse to obey the laws of the land and are a danger to themselves and others around them. Hell is a place where those who refuse to accept and abide by God's Holy order will be far removed from the Children of God.

Yes. I frequent a good umber of Universalist sites. I would recommend viewing the video (available on youtube) of a "debate" between Gary Amirault and Jerry Walls that was originally aired on the TV program "Faith under fire". Amirault, incredibly enough, gets Walls to concede that, yes, not all people are even GIVEN an opportunity in this age to hear the true Gospel, and, will surely be saved eventually, EVEN on the other side of the grave! Believe it or not.

Yes I've seen that video with Gary Amirault. It was one of the video's I watched early on after learning about UR. It was cut a bit short buy I think Gary got a few good points in at least.
Also NOT1LOST and sozo2 have some good videos. I have them in my favorites, you may have seen them already.

God's plan is for the salvation of ALL. Everyone is saved when every knee bows and every tongue SWEARs allegiance (Isa 45:22-23). It will be a joyful celebration of praise and worship for ALL people that ever existed.
As in Adam, all have sinned, so in Christ all will be made righteous, justified, and alive. Jesus will defeat sin and death! (Romans 5, 1 Cor 15:22-28).

God will have all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth (1 Tim 2:4) because He is the savior of ALL men (1 Tim 4:10). So in Adam all were made sinners, through Christ all will be made righteous (Romans 5).
You should research this more - it truly is good news that will bring great joy to all men, just like the angel told the shepherds in Luke 2:10.

A God of grace, glory, and goodness is incompatible with the very concept of ETERNAL hell.
You cannot be infinitely loving and infinitely wrathful at the SAME time. By definition it is a contradiction - that is the "god" of mainstream Christianity.
The God of the bible is truly good and will SAVE ALL Men (1 Tim 2:4). God is reconciling the world to himself (Col 1:20, 2 Cor 5:19). God's wrath ENDS (Rev 15:1). God is not angry forever (psalm 103)
Its the good news for ALL PEOPLE (Luke 2:10)

Hell is a pagan myth folks. It came into church doctrine during the dark ages as a method of controlling the population through fear.
God is the savior of ALL MEN (1 Tim 2:4, 1 Tim 4:10).
Hell is a word and a doctrine, but IT IS NOT BIBLICAL.

I don't know... These things make me really happy that God out of His grace was so merciful that He has chosen me and changed my life, and now I would spend an eternity of joy knowing Him more and more everyday.

If you really want an answer, carefully read Lamentations 3:37-38 and Romans 3:23 :)
When you see someone suffering on the earth, consider it the gift of God - that person sould've been suffering in hell a long time ago. Our God is infinetly holy, so one tiny sin will bring on His wrath.
Everyone rejects God, so why complaining He doesn't look out for them? You might also want to read Hebrews 10:31.

People tend to think that Rev. 14:9-11 is telling us that the wicket people are in torment. but thats not what this scripture says, it is the beast and the false prophet that are in torment not people God has mercy on the bad people and he destroys them, cuts them to pieces and then puts them in the fire to become nothing but ashes. for the wicket are gathered like tares cut up and thrown in the fire.

Hey Carlos you forgot to read Rev. 20:10-15. I think only those who's names are written in the book of life escape the lake of fire! The only way that can happen is you got to except Jesus as your savior. When the wicked are cast into the lake of fire they are never consumed. They are tormented for ever and ever.

Is not fear inherently selfish? Is not selfishness inherently sinful? What evil does not result from fear? Maybe there's a reason that Tim Conway doesn't quote the red letter much in this sermon. And he talks of the Bible as if it's infallible, even though the Bible was assembled by the Council of Nicea. The original followers of the Way didn't have official scriptures. Are they all in Hell? Biblical scholars know that the writ has been altered. Constantine wasn't a Christian. I'm done.

This guy (Tim Conway) says that God is the victim when you break his law but the guy I follow (Yeshua) said that the law was made to serve humans and that humans were not made to serve the law. Jesus said this when he was criticized by fundamentalists for breaking the Sabbath: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Mark 2:27 Tim Conway thinks that man was made to follow God's law, but Jesus said that God's law was made to serve man.

I have a BA in philosophy of religion, a minor in Political Science, and working on a Masters of Education. Just because I have a degree doesn't make my argument correct. The validly of what is being asserted, is what makes an argument cogent.

I am not suggesting people should live however they want. God will still judge us. When we realize the extent of God's mercy, we want to follow his teachings out of love! The doctrine of Hell is obedience out of fear.
God loves us. IF we are all sinners, why do some sinners go to "Hell" but not others?
Or, why would God ask us to forgive our enemies when He himself could not?

The NT was written in Greek. The greek word for "world" in this verse is Kovsmoß or transliterated kosmos.
It has a couple of meaning:
the universe
the circle of the earth
the INHABITANTS OF THE EARTH
the UNGODLY MULTITUDE
the WHOLE MASS of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ
The God of love came to save us, not condemn us to eternal torment

There is evil in this world. But it exists in mans' hearts.
Just as Adam and Eve's story is not a literally one, Satan's story also is a representation or analogy to teach us something. Adam and Eve reveals, "US" and our fall into sin. The story is about you & about me, not a literal history.
Revelations is a book where John was writing from prison. The only way he could sent his letters was to write in code. Many theologians confirm John was writing about his time, not the future.

God cannot just forgive sinners that are not IN Christ because then He would become an abomination.
Especially since Christ is the ONLY way to the father.God tells us to forgive our enemies because He forgave us and we were His enemies.
