My bird is so anti social!! I have him almost a year and he still dislikes me, and it's so sad because I don't want him to be lonely, but he won't let me play with him. He just flies away. He lets me hold him and he chirps, but that's as far as I get with him!

@Jayforshort I had budgies before, they were friendlier than yours but had the same problem with only eating bird seed (they were raised in a pet store- I don't think they knew what fruit were!). However I did get them to try lettuce/fruits, by eating it in front of them! (making sure they could see my mouth lol). It showed them that the fruit was edible :)

(I may or may not have pretended to eat spay millet first lol. It worked!)

@Jayforshort I had a cockatiel with similar behavior. Have you tried petting him? It used to work with my cockatiel. Since she didn't respond to food, I found out with places she would like the most to be pet. She became more sociable then.

lol ya budgies usualy love water. i have one and he used to flap around in his water bowl :P lol so we got him a little bath.... he'll sit in it and flap around.. lol LIKE A BUDGIE FISH! :3 :3 :3 lol but my budgie like never stays in one place. he flutters around SOOOO much, so we left a string of christmas lights up all year and he loooooves to sit on them and swing, and sometimes even do FLIPS. its so cuute. budgies r awesome. =)

How long did it take you to hand train Keewy? Cause I am having a very hard time training my budgie. He's such a pain sometimes. And he bites hard too. I haven't had him very long and I understand it'll take a little while to get him to come to me on his on but sometimes my faith wears thin

@krystalinownsurface It really depends on the bird itself, and how many birds you have. From your comment, it seems you only have one, so it'll be easier since it won't have other birds to get attached to.

From there, if the bird wants to, he'll come close soon enough. You could always try to lure him with some fruit, bread or birdseed.

@MelficeSilesius I have a canary too, but they don't really get along. I have tried with fruits, he doesn't seem to like them though... I haven't tried bread though. When I'm not in my room around his cage he isn't such a pain. But once he sees his cage he flies away from me.

@heart9856 Thank you for all your comments! I named him Keewy because my first budgie was green (when I was 10 years old). He looked like a kiwi. When that budgie passed away, I decided to name my next one Keewy again, because I got used to that name :) Also it's an easy name for a talking bird to say, because the sound of it is easy to pronounce for them :)

Thanks a lot for your words! This inspires me also to make a similiar one in Transparent plastic bottle for my budgies. On Sunday I made it and tried to have my budgie couple to play, but they were frighten away.. Probably it's too warm the water or they haven't prepared for that yet.. I will try it when it's warmer next time.

Try it in the summer when it's hot, put a bowl near or on the cage and just wait untill your budgie gets interrested...leave him alone for a while so he can get used to it and then... who knows...!
